Oh oh

K, I'm really screwing up on my eating plan. Last night, after my work out, I bought some junk food to watch a movie. Doh! Then today, I've been eating non stop (sunflower seeds, Big Mac & fries, cookies). So an evening and an entire day...a complete write off. Tomorrow is Sunday and I'm going to eat on plan, get to the gym and walk my dog. I'm having my sister and her family over for supper, but I can control my portion at supper and forego the garlic bread. Just a wee bit of lasagna and loads of salad.

A couple friends asked me out this weekend, but I preferred to stay home...and eat. :( Thank goodness tomorrow is another day and another chance to start anew.

this is a new week now honey so use it as a fresh start! dont worry about the screwing up i reckon theres not a single person on here that hasnt had at least one of those days.
this is a lifetime change remember not just for this week so concentrate on whats ahead of you and not whats in the past!
good luck

I'm Back

(((Sophie))) THANK you for the encouraging words. And thank you Fresh Start and everyone else for B-day wishes.

I went into emergency last Tuesday night with severe abdominal pain and they did an ultrasound and I was diagnosed with gall stone pancreatitis (gall stones passing into and inflaming my pancreas). They had to admit me for observation until my inflammation went down, put me on morphine for pain, and yanked that naughty gall bladder out on Friday night. I went home on Saturday and am nicely convalescing at my mom's house for a couple days.

All last week I was on a No-Eat diet (not even water or ice chips were allowed) and they had me on an I.V. And after a gall bladder comes out, you can't eat fatty or greasy foods. Basically, the function of the gall bladder is to store bile which helps digest food. But the pancreas also releases enzymes which help with digestion and the liver will now release bile right into the small intestine which is fine. Sorry if that is too much information.

The long and short of it...this has pretty much FORCED me to smarten up and become c-o-n-s-i-s-t-e-n-t with my healthy eating habits. I had a couple gall bladder attacks last year so I think it was on the fritz for a while.

What I did right today for eating is
Breakfast: Oatmeal porridge, skim milk, 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Lunch: 1 cup carrot soup, sliced apple with walnuts
Snack: yogurt with granola
Supper: salmon, rice, corn
Snack; whole wheat cracker with low-fat cheese

I am walking a bit more every day.

I'm really glad to be back on this forum (I missed my laptop in the hospital) and am now going to nose into everyone else's diary.

While at home convalescing...

...methinks I have a little too much time on my hands. But this is a recent conversation between me and a peanut buster parfait.

PBP: Look at me sitting here, I'm so pretty
Me: sigh.
PBP: My chocolate would taste so good in your mouth
Me: licking my lips
PBP: it's especially tasty with peanuts
Me: salivating like Pavlov's dogs
PBP: and it's warm compared to the cold ice cream
Me: crank my head like Danny Glover on Lethal Weapon as he shoots, but continue to glare at the PBP.
PBP: you want me
Me: I do not
PBP: you deserve me
Me: I do not
PBP: you need me
Me: I do not
PBP: (screaming like the witch on The Wizard of Oz) I'm melting! I'm MELTING!
Me: Damn, I'm good (as I drive by DQ)

Nothing like Mother Nature to scare the crap out of us and whip us into shape! Glad you're recovering nicely. Hospitals are sure the pits -- you must be glad to get out of there.

Haha, this is so funny. I've had that conversation with many a tempting dessert especially with my achille's heel, Ben & Jerry's. At least your conversation ends up with you telling the Peant butter parfait to slag off. Mine usually ends up with me having a big old party with Ben & Jerry and then regretting it in the morning.

Well, I've been a little all over the place since my surgery, in terms of healthy eating. I'm not allowed to go to the gym until 2-3 weeks after surgery, but I'm walking a couple miles to work tomorrow...it'll be 11 days post surgery, but so what...I think I can handle a walk if I don't go too fast.

I was winded after a walk this past weekend, but it was a little long.

It's very difficult for me to stay on target with healthy eating when I'm not exercising...no excuse, but an extra challenge. Also, I just went out of town to visit my brother for 4 days and he has more candy in his house than Willy Wonka, gawd luv him. So tomorrow is my first day back on 1200-1500 calorie range and easing back into exercise starting with gentle walking.

Wish me luck!

Back on track

Ahhh, it's a relief to have a good day in of eating on plan. What I did right today:
Breakfast: Oatmeal porridge 320 calories
Snack; apple 65 calories
Lunch: soup 280 calories
Snack; Yogurt and granola 200 calories
Supper; Pita sandwich with falafel, feta cheese, hot peppers, lettuce, tomato, green pepper, cucumber 500 calories
Snack; 2 rice crackers 120 calories
Total = 1500 calories

No walking today, I put my first full day of work in and felt quite tired afterwards. Now I'm settled in to watch American Idol. Whoo-hoo!

Whoa! Way too early to walk to work. I walked to work this morning and was laughing telling a co-worker about it. I was like a bag lady, shuffling my feet and I had a bottle of Perrier water under one arm so I must have looked like a drunk too. A couple times I had to actually stop to catch my breath and twice I had to stop for diarrhea (McDonald's and the university toilets). I know, overshare. Sorry 'bout that. Needless to say, recovery from surgery involves naseau, troubles with the digestive system and tiredness. So a co-worker told me she'd pick me up for the next couple weeks. It took me an hour to walk to work and it usually takes me 1/2 hour. LOL

What I did right today:
breakfast: bran flakes with skim milk
snack; orange
lunch; chef's salad
snack; 2 rice crackers
Supper; 1/2 cup mashed potato, 4 oz. chicken, 1/2 cup corn, 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce.
1315 calories

Hope everyone is doing great.

Walked at coffee and lunch with my friend.
I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 156. Started at 163 so I feel good about the progress, but I still have 20 pounds to go. More important than the weight, is how good I feel being in control of what I put in my mouth. Yay!!
