Lift, Train, Fitness

I would assume it'd be possible to make a graft for your ligament but if it's rarely reported it'd also be experimental surgery. People can live without an MCL and I'm guessing your muscular development would make you a good candidate but it would likely be the end of heavy lifts.

My Doc wants to get me back lifting ASAP to maintain the muscle development around the knee as it is just about all that is holding the knee together.

I don't think people who watch elite sport on TV quite realise the long term effects of injuries after the sporting careers are over. You see sooo many footballers etc. have multiple knee reconstructions and keep getting back on the field afterwards but you never see the down side after the player retires.

my original injury was from a Judo training accident in preparation for the 88 Olympic selection trials, was told I could no longer do the sport due to the risk to the knee. That was followed up by moving on to play Broomball (Similar to Ice Hockey) and to represent the ACT and Australia. After my eldest was born I had Surgery to clear out the calcification because I could not walk without the knee locking and collapsing. I followed up by Playing Rugby Union and when I could no longer do anything that caused the knee to twist I went on to Winning my Australian powerlifting title. The lifting has kept my knee functional beyond what it probably deserves and I will fight to keep as much mobility as possible.

I´m all for lifting, but the super-heavy stuff may be hard to stabilize without an MCL. I´m not a doctor though, least of all your doctor, so definitely listen to what he´s saying.

I have not been going super heavy for a while now with squat my hip arthritis has been a limiting factor, the difficult thing is everybody has a different perception of heavy. What I consider a moderate weight, some others will perceive as eye watering, and is one of the reasons I rarely post actual weights here as I don't think it is all that healthy outside of actual competition to compare weight lifted. A person lifting a lighter weight in the gym that they perceive as very heavy for them is working just as hard as I am. looking at reps and sets along with perceived effort is a better indicator of whether they are training in a way to meet their goals rather than a weight that someone else is lifting.

no problem, did not see it as an attack lol

more of an info posts for those who may read it later and not understand. In your profession you know how important maintaining muscle may be, but on weight loss forums and social media you see people post about how they don't want muscle without realising how important it is to maintain for good health, You mention muscle and they jump to the conclusion that they will look Arnold if they build a little bit of muscle by accident lol.

Rest is good, but there needs to be some level of movement as recovery allows for it, When I do get clearance to lift again in the future I have heavy competition knee wraps which will not allow any lateral movement in the knee when lifting and as always it will building up slowly as recovery allows, I don't want to contemplate the idea that I will never lift again, trying to stay positive, no matter how hard it seems right now.

It is hot today and I have spent most of the afternoon so far in front of the air con watching the test cricket on TV, have not strapped the knee today as I have not been on it and little miss is at childcare so no chance of accidents. I will probably strap it before D picks her up at then end of the day

I tried to get motivated this morning to hobble outside to do some photography but the pain, the thought of needing to strap the knee and the heat has kept me inside. late this afternoon I may head out and see if the pair of damsel flies are still hanging around to photograph.

Knowing your drive and expertise I'm sure your recovery will be the best it can possibly be.
I will admit to having been afraid of swimming too much at some point because my shoulders were already hard to dress even without developed deltoids :leaving:How the times change :rotflmao:

After measuring carefully, I ave ordered the brace I linked to a few posts ago, it is not the one I was looking at originally due to size issues. Not doing much today because my skin is looking very irritated from the strapping an I only need to go out for my scan this afternoon.

D and I need to come up with a way to borrow son 3s car so we can get a new sound system installed for him for Xmas, he only has radio working for his current one. The other boys have had Xmas money put in their bank accounts, they are hard to shop for and they have better access to good shops in the city compared to often over priced stuff in rural Queensland.

Little miss has part of he xmas stuff already because it is a little hard to wrap fish lol, it was not originally planned to get fish but when I took her into the aquarium to distract her, the reaction was amazing, she was soooo excited, and now we have the tank set up and fish in place it is her favourite spot in the house just sitting and watching the fish.

Neons.jpg

we got some Neons, a couple of platty, 2 sword tails (M & F), 2 rainbow sharks and a cute little bristle nose catfish. Little miss loves the sharks but they are a little hard to photograph lol

I know nothing about fish; are those the neons? They look like the fish they had at the bank when I was little. Was always happy when there was a long line so I could watch them while my mom waited :D What a lovely present!

yes those ones are neons, it is a tropical tank, with a fair amount of space to add more fish later on. because we have chosen some semi aggressive fish we cannot have some of the more placid tropical species like angel fish etc. I have had tropical fish in the past so I at least know how to care for them.

:D Anyone else I would´ve been appalled at a spontaneous animal purchase but with you I didn´t even consider the possibility you might not know what you´re doing.

As much as I know little miss would love a dog or cat, we cannot with good conscience get one, we have far to many paralysis ticks, I am heartbroken when we loose one and it is just not fair to the animal to put its life at risk of the suffering tick and snake bites cause.

Had the ultrasound on my knee this arvo, just getting in to have the scan was a challenge, the strongly perfumed hand sanitiser triggered my asthma in reception, I had to wait outside in the heat just so I could breathe.

The technician doing the scan could not say anything about what she found, but she was muttering about needing an MRI and the pressure applied during parts of the scan triggered pain in some additional places, but it felt thorough and covered the entire knee, my next GP appointment is Wednesday to find out the results.

I wish I had my camera ready this morning, little miss wandered out into the lounge room after waking up with a DVD in hand looking for somebody to play it for her, it took at least a full minute to note that the tree had things under it and when she did notice she jumped in a very startled way before running to get her dad to show him the tree, her speech is not very good so she was putting her hands above her head like a xmas tree then dragging hubby out of bed.

Xmas is all about the kids lol, she was running around with her camera taking photos and shaking the camera to put funny stickers on our faces. we also got her a cricket bat and soft ball set, she put the ball on the floor and tried to hit it with the handle of the bat. While I am typing D is helping her do the Frozen jigsaw puzzle.

We don't do anything formal so today has been cold roast meats and salads for lunch, a big hot xmas day feast just doesn't work well for summer in Aus especially Queensland.

my gifts were a straight bar cable attachment and a tricep bar.

That sounds hilarious! Just the kind of thing that makes Christmas special.

Merry Christmas, hopefully not too late for Australia!
