hooks for removing ticks for my hiking first aid kit

I have never had a leech, but ticks are plentiful here. Trying to keep the hiking first aid kit as light and compact as possible, I have most of the contents for it (without having to raid my big first aid bag) but still waiting for the pouch I ordered on e-bay which will attach to the outside of my pack using the MOLLE system. I also still need to get a new can of cold spray and a packet of second skin.
 
:eek: That´s 145 push-ups a day :eek: I´m aware that the number should be shocking, given the reason for it, but that´s still a LOT of push-ups. Also: if the apocalypse hits people will be so glad to know you!
 
I have never seen a tick hook, did not know they exist. Do they work?

I did once get a tick fever, sickest I have ever been in my life, it was awful. Hate ticks.

yes, the hook just slides under so you can pull them out without risk of squeezing more poison into you, using fine needle type tweezers it is easy to accidentally squeeze the body. I kill the tick first with cold spray which makes removal easier.

We get a lot of paralysis ticks here, one of the reasons I have been reluctant to get another dog, because even if you find the tick and have the vet give the antivenom the dog can still die and I have lost too many dogs to ticks. They are not generally serious for people but the site of the bite take ages to feel better. I also keep the removed tick in a sterile jar for about 6 weeks, in case of a tick borne disease where the tick may need to be tested.

That is a very good idea. I did not keep the tick that gave me the fever and it was never possible to identify what I had, they just had to keep trying different antibiotics till one finally worked. I was told that had I kept the tick things would have gone better. It was some relative of Lyme Disease, but not Lyme Disease, at the time the doctor told me there were at least 40 different tick borne fevers found in Florida, I suspect Australia is much the same. We don't have so many ticks in Utah, but I will find and order the tick tools anyway!
 
Fast feet ladder drill for cardio today after the walk to take the wheelie bin down to the road for pickup., Squat, Straight leg deadlift, pushups and landmine shoulder press to finish.

That gym looks great! Also, I'm noting and pinching that idea about keeping the tick in case of later need to check for disease - thanks! :)
 
been feeling out of sorts this week, it would have been mums birthday this week, 2 months before the anniversary of her death. no exercise today, but have spent time helping my 2 year old to do some messy painting.

I still miss my Mum, Tru & that won't change. I try to focus on the love that I had & not dwell on her death as it was awful. I rang my Mum's sister today because I was missing my Mum. She was really chuffed, so that was nice.
G is a definite cutie xo

The pouch attaches to the Molle on the outside of my backpack. It has a tearaway quick release for quick access

I may remove the cold pack, and replace it with additional wound cleaning stuff, probably not iodine based as it is a common allergy and I would not like to come to somebody else aid and cause an allergic reaction.
