Lift, Train, Fitness

Planning a trip to the gym this morning about 8 am (6:30 am at the moment), I was given clearance by the physio yesterday arvo to return to lifting but with some limitations due to my elbow. Looking forward to a light full body session after having had almost a full night sleep last night.

Almost a full night´s sleep at this stage? Magnificent! Congratulations on the exercise clearance, even if it is provisional.

Training (35 minutes)

Warmup squat - bar only X 10

Squat 5 X5 @ 60 kg (132 lb)
Single arm chest press 5 X 10 @ 55 kg (121 lb)
Kroc Rows (left only) 5 X 10 @ 20 kg (44 lb)
Single arm tricep pushdown with rope 3 X 10 @ 15 kg (33 lb)
Wrist curls and reverse 3 X 10 @ 1kg (2.2 lb) on right (rehab exercise) 8 kg (17 lb) on left

not to bad after 11 months of no lifting

You are amazing Tru! That's excellent that you got almost a full night's sleep as well. I bet that made you feel good :)

The difference between "working out" and training

Working out for Exercise is activity for the sake of activity. Working out is a random approach to fitness without any direction toward specific goals; Show up at the gym, do a bunch of work and cross your fingers that results will appear tomorrow.

At any particular moment, training and exercise might look more or less the same. But they're not. When you train, sessions have specific goals relative to the overall goals of a program. The activities, loads, and frequencies you use are vital. You do what you need to do, not just what you want to do.

The difference between working out and training is the outcome. Working out is a great model for those who enjoy doing what feels good for that specific day and time, or those who value the community of a group class. Generally, when working out, there is not a specific end goal or a set plan that outlines how to get from point A to point B. Unlike working out, training provides a specific regimen with a clear plan of action that will lead to a specific end goal.

Have you been doing the same thing week-in and week-out, with no progression in mind? It may be fun, and it may get you some results, but it's not training.

I like that explanation. I definitely work out for the sake of enjoying the feel of my body in activity. I have some basic goals and I have a program in mind that´d get me to them but on days when I don´t feel like sticking to it I have no problem at all with deviating and doing whatever I feel like because those goals are really only there to increase the fun for me. Like winning when you play soccer. I don´t have a competitive bone in my body so winning is a nice bonus but a good game, where I really get into the zone, is way more important than the numbers on the board.

I have a good case of DOMS this evening, I knew it would happen as I adapt to training again, I expect that I will continue to get DOMS post workout for a few more weeks while I re-adapt but in the meantime I think disability rails in the bathroom would be nice lol, DOMS in the Quadriceps makes sitting down a little bit of a challenge :D

Still a little sore, should be ok tomorrow. Got a new lens for my camera today at the boxing day sales. Looking forward to getting out and seeing just how good the lens is (it is worth more than the camera) just need some suitably small bugs or flowers

feeling very relaxed at the moment, just had a small glass of mead, been about 2 years or so since i last had alcohol, not great for recovery but is a nice change.

feeling good this morning, no more DOMS

goals for today,

Find some time for macro photography
get some more work done towards enclosing part of verandah with shade cloth and converting to outdoor play room
Training at the gym tonight

I have the advantage of hubby being on holidays and being able to give me a break from bub, working at a school has its benefits.

Bub likes being carried around in a pouch worn by my husband, she goes to sleep :)

Ok, now I have to read it, to too... Urgh! I probably shouldn´t have commented but these things make me angry. Quacks prey on the weak and vulnerable.

3 am so as good a time as any to post an update

as for hitting goals

photography - yes (see walking thread)
home renovations - yes (but more work to do)
Gym - sort of, bub was irritable, completed home gym training in addition to walking earlier in the day

https://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/what-i-saw-during-my-walk-today.88888/#post-983190 - macro photo taken during walk, the subject is 5-8 mm long in real life but lost some detail reducing photo size to post on forum

Well, you sure are back in the swing of things! Nice to hear you´re recovering/have recovered so well. Also: that wasp is amazing. I´m loving the walking thread even though as yet I don´t remember to check it on the regular (email reminders don´t work for me).
