Lift, Train, Fitness

Last couple of days have been ok and eating has been more in line with my normal keto eating however it was not real great last night at the gaming table where my Doc gets to see how bad my diet can be lol
Sounds like less sickness :) Glad to hear it!

Feeling super stressed and upset today, nothing to do with the pregnancy but when you have Autistic kids sometimes very bad things can happen, last night was one of those times and I wasn't able to be there to help.

Desperately trying not to stress for the sake of the pregnancy but it is soooo hard. Still hoping the police won't be involved.

I have no appetite and just don't feel like eating.

I can post study after study which shows that low fat is not the answer and most will never read them or believe because of popular media but this is an entertaining look at things.

As far as I can tell a change is happening and fat is losing some of its bad rep. I don't think that'll be the end of it though; pretty sure that we're going toward "humans are extremely diverse and need different things to function well". But we'll see.

It has been a stressful couple of weeks and have not felt like posting much, youngest son now has a life ban from playing soccer. When stressed autistic people need to be able to take themselves away from stressful situations to calm down. During a soccer game my son was stressed and upset and was taking himself off the field and swearing at himself, the referee would not let him go, chasing him, insisting he come back to get a card and continually blowing the whistle at him. the other players tried to tell the ref to just let him leave the field but he refused to listen so my son turned around and punched him in the mouth, knocking him flat before walking off the field. I don't condone the hitting of a referee but this could have all been avoided if son was allowed to just walk away.

on the up side today the local martial arts school (part of the gym) is head hunting him to possibly compete in a world cup at the end of the year, he hasn't done martial arts since he was about 10 (there is only a limited number of sports anyone can do at a time) but because of his amazing weight to power ratio from being an elite lifter, good hand eye coordination, amazing flexibility (his physiotherapist said he belongs in cirque du soleil as a contortionist) etc. he has a good chance of bringing home a few trophies as well as providing an outlet for his aggression in the full contact weight divisions.

There has also been a lot of stress dealing with idiots at the local hospital, I may have GD. despite already being referred to a different hospital the local hospital wanted me to see their dietitian, I said NO 3 times yet the following day they sent me an appointment time despite saying NO . I then went to see the gyno at the hospital down the coast and also seen the endocrinologist there who said she actually recommends people eat the way I do (Keto/low carb) and said most dietitians have no understanding of nutritional requirements for very muscular elite athletes, and most don't understand low carb. I was told I should basically ignore anything the dietitian had to say if I went to see them. I am tracking my blood sugars at home according to the local hospitals schedule (I tracked on and of before pregnancy for my own knowledge) all reading so far have been within the normal range. When I had a look at the suggested diet plan for gestational diabetes it was over 10 times the amount of sugar I usually consume, if anything was going to drive up my blood sugars that would.

When I had my doctor had a look at all the notes from both hospitals and the blood test results (including the new ones the Endo asked for) everything was normal except the 1 hour mark of the original glucose tolerance test and could not understand why the hospital wanted the home test done 2 hours after eating when I was normal at the 2 hour mark. so now I have to test on the hospital schedule to keep them happy and at the 1 hour mark so my doc can try and see what is happening, that is a total of 7 finger prick tests each fucking day.

after all of this the result will be sent to the endocrinologist to look at when I go back in 4 weeks.

for reference

That's a lot of finger pricks  Glad your blood sugar is mostly under control though! Sorry to hear your son ran into a ref who seems more into power than sports.

Sleep has been a little better and I am yet to have a glucose reading outside of the normal range, it is unfortunate that most people who eat low carb fail the glucose tolerance test because we do not have much sugar on a regular basis so the body does not deal well with consuming 5 days worth of sugar in one hit. If I am going to have an abnormal reading it will be tonight when I will be at my Docs house for game night when junk is consumed

My friend had GD, she was explaining how even a bowl of porridge in the morning could get her sugar levels out of whack. She said the only upside is that the baby gained weight during her pregnancy but she didn't. It kind of made me think of 'eating for two' when pregnant as being a bit of a myth.

GD is caused by hormones released by the placenta which inhibits insulin sensitivity so it is hit and miss if your going to get it, it is not related to diet but if you have a bad diet and then improve your eating then it may be possible to control it but not always. My diet is more strict with much lower sugar than the suggested diet in the GD book, so if the hormone releases get worse then the only option for me will me medication, but after birth the cause is no longer there and everything goes back to normal. I am restricted from exercise which would also keep my glucose levels in check a little more.

Genetically I have big babies (almost 11 lb for my middle son the other 2 were not much smaller) so the risk of having an even bigger baby caused by GD is worry for the OB

I have not been posting much, Still very stressed over situation with my son. No diet deviations and still no exercise so nothing to report.

I'm sorry to hear that you are so stressed by the situation with your son. I can understand it though. What happened can't be undone of course. How is your son coping with it all? You are doing well by not deviating from your diet. You are a strong person mentally as well as physically Tru. I hope you can see your way to move past this situation and be able to be less stressed by it all, for your own mental well-being & general health xoxo

he is coping ok, he has been charged. A person who I considered a friend was heard bagging out my son to others behind my back and saying he should never have been playing sport because of his Autism. In her position as a football official told the ref to have my son charged, last night she had the hide to ask my husband how I was going :(

I have been doing my best to stay calm for the pregnancy but it is a BIG struggle, the police don't think there will be anything more than a fine and no conviction recorded, due to first offence and him cooperating, admitting he was wrong and apologising. It was just a case of someone with ASD getting over stressed and snapping, there was No intent to do serious harm, no actual harm outside of a little bruising and he did try to walk away initially and did walk away after the single punch. But you never know, it will all depend on the magistrate.

on an added note, he has begun training for the karate world cup and successfully mastered doing 1 arm cartwheels in prep for the extreme kata division.

possibly not relevant for some here but the section on the bottom of the notice is

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical & Scientific Commission recently held a summit where it was concluded that while “diet significantly influences athletic performance… the use of supplements does not compensate for poor food choices and an inadequate diet.” It was also noted at the summit that “quality assurance in supplement manufacture, storage and distribution is sometimes not strictly enforced, leading to products that are of poor quality or contaminated.”

This comment is supported by a survey conducted by LGC, which found that 1 in 5 supplements bought off Australian shelves contained a banned substance, whether it was listed on the label or not."

this rate of contamination is worse in countries with less regulations than Australia
