Lift, Train, Fitness

wind is savage today, they now have around 80 crews fighting the fire, the mention I seen on the news only mentioned there was a fire and could not even pronounce the location while a smaller less dangerous fire was the big highlight :( just because it was less effort for journalists to get to, nobody wants to report on disasters happening in the middle of woop woop. The wind direction has moved blowing the fire in 3 fronts east rather than north east which is bad, seriously hope they can get this under control despite the wind otherwise this will get very big very fast. If fire reaches my location it will be nightmarish, macadamia trees explode and I am surrounded by macadamia farms.

edit: over 10,000 hectares burnt out so far

Fires under control but it is sooo dry a spark could set off more. been busy getting ready to drive to Canberra, leaving on Saturday.

Had a red belly black on the verandah yesterday arvo, not a real big snake only about a metre, better to have this deadly snake near the house rather than the Browns and Taipans, Red Belly Black snakes keep the others away and also not aggressive like the others.

fuck, windy again today and 3 new fires, one just up our road, would not surprise me if it was lit from a tourists cigarette but. hope the new sink hole swallows their tents down on the beach.

Edit: hubby has just been called out to fight fires, he is expecting a long night. :(

There really is no respite for you guys, is there? We NEVER have forest fires and people still get warned about the dangers religiously so it's impossible for tourists not to know what they're doing.

you would think that with the big fire seasons we have that people would learn, but they don't it is not uncommon to be following tourist vehicles at night and see the light from lit butts getting thrown out windows.

one of the big info campaigns at the moment is to make people aware of underground fires. when a normal fire has been put out, it might not actually be out because the roots of trees under the ground can still burn and spread, sometimes traveling miles before it bursts back to life on the surface, well away from the original fire.

The fire on our road has been delt with quickly but the fire hubby has been sent to could be another big one, 20 crews on site already and the info I have from somebody whose property is in sight of the fire is that it is next to macadamia farms in thick scrub. I think I may have mentioned before that macadamia trees explode.

That's bad. We only get underground fires when there's layers of peat or coal and none of our trees explode :(

We've had bad forest fires the last few fall seasons because of the 10 year drought here, but none really close to our house. So sorry you have to go through all of that!

I really do hope that you get a bloody good rain soon to put these fires out! G has been burning off around our place in preparation for Summer.

all quiet again, fires are out and had a light sprinkle of rain which ware not even enough to dampen the dust. The community response to help the burnt out farmers has been great, they were already struggling with the drought but to loose whats left and add to that injured and dead livestock it is devastating. The first fire area has been declared a national disaster.

I think most people in cities have little real understanding of drought and bushfire where their biggest gripe is a few water restrictions and don't have to worry about not having any water. They are events to be watched on the evening news then forgotten about.

I am feeling very run down and exhausted, might be time to have my iron levels checked again as I struggle to keep my iron levels up despite having a diet high in iron, liver is on the menu for tonight. I feel the same way I did each time I have had glandular fever / borderline chronic fatigue. I should also get tested for Ross river fever, as it has the same symptoms and there has been another outbreak here and I have had a fair number of mosquito bites lately.

The stress of the fires would probably contribute to you feeling tired & run down. A visit to your doc sounds like a good plan though. It's best to be careful.

Finally finished bubs quilt with the assistance of a friend, my sewing machine was not strong enough to quilt the layers together. All of the tiger cubs are hand painted with fabric paint (Hobbytex)

still feeling very lethargic and run down but food choices have been good today. Lamb Liver was good last night.
