It is not the actual surgery that bothers me, and yes they do cut lower now, but the cut still has to go through the abdominal muscles which are put under incredible pressure by lifters at an elite level. When lifting heavy a power-lifter will create a "block" building up a large amount of pressure in the abdominal cavity to prevent spinal collapse and injury. Occasionally they will not cut the abdominal muscle but separate them which also causes problems for lifters, there are a lot of female lifters who have need surgery to repair abdominal separation. The abdominal muscles are not just what people think of as the six pack.
