Lift, Train, Fitness

Had a good day last yesterday, kept eating on track despite 6 hours of gaming. Had two juicy lamb steaks for lunch, and a couple more in the fridge for today (hubby got them as a treat for me :) ) can't wait to get the full sheep this week

Finally feeling like I am back to my good keto eating, all the sneaky wheat is gone, but I do still have a lot of peeling dead skin, but no more actively blistering skin.

fixed typos, I think some of my keys on my laptop are needing a bit more pressure when pressed)

Just before I have to go and get some washing done, It looks like I am going to need to rearrange my usual week when uni resumes for semester 2, timetable selection is not favourable for one subject, hopefully I can get one of the days changed at daycare for little miss as trying to do a 2 hour online lecture/tute for sport psychology with her running around will be a little stressful.

I am about to update the diary link in my signature so this is a quick about me post for newish members so they do not need fight their way through hundreds of posts to get to the current stuff.

I am 47 and a mother of 4 (3 adult autistic sons and a toddler daughter)

I have all sorts of fitness and sporting qualifications as well as being a Uni student to take that knowledge further.
Before life as a fitness professional I was among other things a web developer, way back when the internet was young
I am a former champion athlete
I have old injuries that I have overcome and some which I must still deal with (age, arthritis, and lingering injures from elite sport are not fun)
I have food allergies which make a standard diet completely unattainable
I follow a keto lifestyle but if stressed may stray from the path which will put me in a whole world of hurt (see allergies above)
I am much heavier than many members here, this is ok as some of my goals are different to many member is that I am always looking to gain or maintain muscle, this does not mean that I don't have some fat I would prefer was gone but in general I am in maintenance.

I am always open to questions but may be a little blunt at times.

Another quiet day today, got my timetable sorted for uni next semester, it is not ideal but it could have been worse lol

I am looking forward to sport and exercise psychology, as it is a huge aspect of not only elite performance, but also exercise compliance for those looking to loose weight and get a little fitter, you can help somebody with exercise programs and instruction but if they are not ready mentally then you are at a huge risk of failing that person.

4 km of incidental walking today, tomorrow I will take little miss for a walk on the shortest of the hiking trails in town.

Anyone getting you as their trainer will be so lucky. Does little Miss enjoy walks? My youngest nephew could only be bribed into them by choosing the fairytale ones (where people hide garden gnomes and such along the route).

she enjoy being outside and exploring, the short trail should have enough interesting things to look at to keep her attention, it is only 2 km which is like two laps around the lake at the park, and if all else fails she like piggy back rides lol.

Sounds like good fun. I have a question, by the way. You´re by far the most qualified person I know to ask and I hope you won´t mind me asking. I remember watching a Youtube video about a... I want to say she was a powerlifter, but she may have been a bodybuilder, or both at different times in life. I didn´t watch enough of her content to remember. Whatever she was aiming to do she picked up heavy things and put them back down again in order to build up muscle. At some point she said the trouble with having her period was that she´d push out her tampon during heavy lifts. It´s been years since I watched that clip and I never found a proper answer to pelvic floor activation during intense strength training. Normally of course the pelvic floor tenses when you do strenuous things and when it doesn´t that can be a problem. I had assumed the same would be true (more so, and more consciously so) when lifting to the point you´re grunting to get more power out. But then she wouldn´t have lost her tampon. Am I missing something? I used to not really care because I worked in geriatrics anyway but now that I´m back to seeing people of all ages and activity levely I get to exercise my brain in more directions again and the answer may become relevant at some point.

A lot of lifters, no matter how good have never been taught to brace correctly, and there is no shortage of ladies in the sport with pelvic floor issues who have problems with leakage, however I have not met any personally who pop tampons and I think I have only ever encountered one on a ladies lifting forum who has had that problem. I have a small amount of pelvic floor weakness in everyday life after 4 kids but it has never been a problem on the lifting platform when concentrating on maintaining that tightness, which is needed for safe lifting.

As a sport, many powerlifters are self taught by watching videos, or have only had a regular personal trainer to teach the basics, I don't know what it is like in some other countries but personal trainers are not always well trained, I have lost count of how many personal trainers I have seen tell their clients to tighten their core but not actually be able to give any cues for the person to be able to actually achieve core tightness.

Another average day, completed the short hike with little miss, the trail was marked as 2 k but by my tracking we covered a little more than 3km, not bad for a 2 1/2 year old, she had a massive nap afterwards, falling asleep in the car on the way home and not even stirring when I carried her inside.

Time for bed, as I am actually feeling tired, so hopefully I will sleep through tonight, as I have not been sleeping well.

I hope you slept well too, Tru. I didn't sleep well either the last couple of nights. Your little daughter is a little trooper!

She is soooo active and strong, she loves being outside but at the same time likes creative things and using her imagination inside. She also loves dancing. Of course she is also very stubborn and independent which hubby blames on me lol, but honestly it is great that she is so determined to do things for herself, some stuff is a little beyond her however we still let her try, sometimes ending in frustration and tears but never giving up.

She seems absolutely adorable & I think your husband may be right. Being determined & never giving up are admiral traits :)

this was 2/3 the way through the walk stopped for a drink and she was still full of energy lol

not much happening today, just put a soup/stew on in the crock pot for tomorrow, the croc-pot is a great way to use the meat off-cuts from trimming down the meat for other meals and some of the veg can be a little past their best, today the celery was a bit soft but it will make no difference once it is cooked. Also have a nice selection of mixed dried beans which will thicken it all up nicely. Once it is cooked a couple of serves are packed in the freezer for ready meals later in the week and the rest is there for anybody in the family to help themselves when they feel like it.
