Let's see if I can Zumba myself thin...

Hello,

I've been a member of the forum a little while, mainly using it when I need motivation... some of your stories are really inspiring!

So now it's my turn to start a diary! I weigh 175lb, I'm 5'3'' and 20 years old... carrying most of my weight on my bust I think! But what I'm really aiming to do is get rid of this tummy and love handles that have appeared over the last couple of years.

I've been awful with fast food and getting cabs rather than walking lately (though I do usually walk 1 hr a day 5 days a week - 30 mins to work and back)... my aim is to get fit and regain the body that a couple of years ago got me a good few compliments! I used to live further away and would walk 1 hr 30 mins to work and the same back...I was at my most confident, about 154 pounds. (I think my breasts weigh about a stone so I sound bigger than I am!) Incidentally, 2 years ago is when I met my boyfriend who is a chef. Argh!! Loads of rump steaks with creamy mushroom sauces for dinner... not a recipe for a healthy body.

I've been tracking every calorie I consume and expend on Livestrong's 'My Plate', this is my fourth day, I'm aiming for 2lb loss a week but let's see what happens. Any loss is a positive one...and so far in those 3 days I've gone from 178 to 175, so it's a promising start. Tracking everything I do has been the most insightful thing, I'm conscious of everything I'm putting in my body now and it's an awareness I never really had before. I never used to understand calories for a start!

I've been doing a minimum of 40 mins of Zumba each day but on two of the days I've done 80 minutes and today I'm aiming for a total of 2 hrs in 1 hr blocks. I'm using Zumba for the Playstation 3, does anyone know if this would be suitable exercise? MyPlate tells me it burns 557kcal an hour but my coordination is somewhat lacking so I think I'll knock some calories off that!

My biggest fault is that I LOVE food with a capital L! And I have a bit of an addictive personality....enough is never enough. Until recently I was drinking very heavily as well, and I'm sure this ever-expanding tummy is because of that. I've knocked it on the head now - stopped drinking every day about two months ago, and now I'm going cold turkey completely. :)

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and hopefully pick up some tips, insights and get some support!

Thanks for reading and I CAN DO IT! x

A:grouphug: Welcome little lady!!

I love ZUMBA...I go twice a week to a local class....my instructor is a crazy women and I love it!! I have it on PS3 also and I enjoy it but haven't done it in awhile since the weather has been so so nice.....and winter is right around the corner...ugh!

So good luck and just want to let you know this is a great place filled with tons of support and awesome inspiration!! hope you stick around :)

Thank you! Well done on your loss so far, you're doing excellently, got any tips?! Thanks for the welcome :) I love zumba...can't stand any other exercise for long enough to work up a sweat!

AZumba is so fun I agree....my best tip is ....don't let a bad day ....turn into a bad week.....in to a bad month!! One day at a time!! You can do this!! :) :)

Thank you!

Just wanted to share my success with everyone so far...

I've stuck to tracking my calories and doing Zumba for at least 1 hr a day for a whole week now...and in that week I've lost 5 pounds! So unexpected, I was aiming for 1 or 2 pounds a week and I really hope I can keep this up :) Of course I doubt I'll lose as much next week so I'm gonna try and stay positive whatever I lose :) My first mini goal was to lose 10lb so I'm half way there...now I'm gonna say my overall goal is to lose 20lb. Which would take me from my heaviest weight of 178 to 158 pounds. Currently I'm 173.

Amazed at how the weight's fallen off this week, it's made all my exercise worthwhile :)

Today I am 172! So happy, it's been a week now and I've lost 6 pounds. Can't wait to reach that half stone! Today I'm going on a 2 hour walk as well as doing my Zumba. :) Hopefully I'll continue to shed this weight fast but I know it has to slow down eventually :(

No loss on the scales today - feeling a bit demotivated but will have to exercise even harder today to hopefully see some results tomorrow. I knew this wasn't going to be plain sailing but after such a promising start I'm feeling a bit down today and realise I still have a long struggle ahead :(

My tummy was really rumbling during the night so I'm wondering if it's a result of not eating enough. Maybe my body is in energy preservation mode :(

AHi littlelady, don't be put off from not seeing any loss on the scale. Remember it's not a race but a change in your lifestyle and this can only be done slowly. I also want to lose weight by doing zumba on my wii. But I've only just started.however I find it extremely fun. So hopefully we can both lose weight by doing zumba ? good luck ?

I cannot recommend it enough! It takes a little while to get into it and to perfect a lot of the moves...especially for me because I've never danced and I have no coordination! But I find it addictive, it's reached the point where I'm singing along with all of the songs while I'm exercising! I do 45 mins in the morning and another 20 mins later in the day usually. And some of the routines I know really well now..so I put loads of energy into it and bounce about even when the instructor is stood still. I've noticed a big increase in my fitness level already... and exercise really is the best natural anti-depressant :)

How much weight are you aiming to lose? We'll have to keep each other posted on our progress :) GOOD LUCK!

AI know what you mean. it's so addictive I even practice the moves in the morning when I brush my teeth ?. But it's really good because I don't even realise I'm exercising because I have so much fun. I try and do 45 min in the afternoon, and 20 min in the evening but I'm always losing motivation to do it. I'm aiming to lose about 60 pounds. I weigh 223 pounds and I'm 5 ft 10. We definitely need to work together on this and prove zumba is the best ?

I find myself jiggling and doing the arm movements even when I'm in bed! And I've even caught my boyfriend singing El Amor now haha! :)

I know what you mean about the motivation though....as fun as it is to do, some days I just think aarrrggggggh do I really have to do this?! But then I get cracking and it tends to be fine...and I suppose at least I'm working up a sweat without having to go jogging in public or be stared at in the gym! It's nice to be able to wake up looking like a monster, don't even brush my hair and get straight into exercising, no excuses...thinking hey I'll be thin and beautiful soon! ;)

Make sure you do your Zumba at least 5 days a week or I will be checking! hehe

ASo what ZUMBA do you have?? I was looking at Zumba exhilarate.....but it is so so pricey!! I dont own any of the DVD's just the game and I go to class...I love them both tho.....we have a blast as we sweat off our ass!! haha

AI know I'm always practising the leg movement whenever I can. Though I lack motivation to do it, I always feel great when I finsh doing it and that I'm step closer to a new me. I love the zumba songs I'm just starting to learn the words though. I'll definitely try and do I 5 times a week, since I'm doing it in the comfort of my own home, which is so convenient. Make sure you do it 5 times a week aswell?

AI got the zumba fitness game on my wii. I've never been to the class before but I want to. Still the game I got was about £21. Not too bad and I'm always sweating hard when I finish. I'm definitely going try and buy the zumba DVD set it looks really good.

I have the Zumba for PS3 which I like because you can see when you're getting the moves correct onscreen BUT once you've done it a couple of times you know you're doing it right anyway. The DVD collection looks fab too!

I've done my 45 mins today and an extra 20 mins as well. :)

Ohh, I fancy getting Zumba for PS3--Might have a look into it if you're enjoying it! Well done on all your exercise!!

Yh the DVD looks great I want it so bad but it's so expensive?.

It's so annoying when the telly is in use..I sympathise with that completely! When my boyfriend is home from wtork he's on the PS3 constantly and I have to ask him for my Zumba slot! It's irritating! And yeah that DVD set is so expensive...I think I'd probably rather hire a personal trainer for that cost! :p

Thanks! And YES I recommend it wholeheartedly! And the good thing is there's so many routines and classes on there of different levels of expertise so you never get bored :) Makes it a lot easier to do day in day out!

How much are you looking to lose out of interest? :)

Also, with the PS3 game you need Move for PS3 but they also say you should do it with the belt that the Move controller goes in (it's a Zumba belt, comes with some DVDs but not others I think) but I do mine without the belt cos it slips down my hips!

AI know the money for the DVD isn't worth it I agree with about getting a personal trainer than the DVD as well. We today I managed to do 20 min of zumba, I was trying to do the 45min one but I started to feel sick because I ate my dinner before I did zumba. I was trying to do it before my brothers come back and demand the t.v but it didn't work out. Oh well in happy I did atleast 20 min workout than nothing and I also did brisk walk for like 1/2 hour yesterday ?
