Less intense HIIT

Hi all
I'm young (18 years old) and have no cardiopathy ... hovewer I can't really stand the standard HIIT (1 minute moderate pace 100 bpm and 20-30 seconds 90% max heart rate 190 bmp, then again 1 minure moderate and again sprint at 90% max heart beat for 20-30 second ... for 15-20 minutes)

Well, that's too intense for me
I really feel I have no breat at the end of the training, my chest kills me for the pain, I feel my chest heavy and when I breath my whole throat and jaw too hurts a lot (yeah jaw ... I don't know why)

I wonder, given that the principle behind HIIT is having alternated intensivity rather than same intensity for the whole duration of the exercise, wouldn't less intense HIIT works anyway for the same principle ... even if I don't go up to 80-90% bpm or the moderate pace period lasts for longer?

Thanks
Danny

Sure you can keep a more moderate pace and alternate in longer periods, that would be interval-training wich is a very common way to exercise aswell. It just wont give you quite as quick improvements in the cardiovascular system as HIIT but it still a good way to exercise.
The risk with HIIT if you're not used to working out is that it just as you describe, makes you feel to ****ty so you stop doing it completely.

Thanks for replying
Could you suggest me a good example of effective internal training?

Let's say I'm just running outside ... and plant to run for 20 minutes
How do I make an Interval Training out of this?

Thanks
Danny

Have you considered sprinting? What I do is sprint a few yards (over 10 usually), then walk back to my starting position... Repeat it 5-10 times. I'd also say suicide sprints but if you cant do proper HIIT, I think suicide sprints would be bad too. But try sprints, they work good for me :)

can HIIT be this...

30 second jog at 50% pace
20 second run at 75% pace
10 second sprint at 100% pace (fast as you can)

or is it what is in the sticky only?
