Lena's corner

LOL venice...i did hear that somewhere :) i like polenta and every possible italian dish. does your mom know how to make that polenta con gorgonzola? i would really like a recipe :) (do you have to put it in the oven or??) i ate that when i was in italy. good your mom's a cook so i can ask for some recipes lol )

britta...i'll dance it away tonight probabily. its just you know, these things make me angry...whenever i eat because i want to get rid of an emotion. and obviously the emotion just doubled...but i guess i should look on a bright side - i actually didn't allow myself to numb that emotion.

Well, it is kinda difficult to explain...I suppose you have pre-prepared flour to make polenta, and you cook it with water and salt for a long time, right? Well, when it's ready you just have to put gorgonzola on top of it and it will melt naturally with the heat of the polenta.
Anyway, gorgonzola is one of the most caloric food on earth! But it's soooo good...

yeah i know its extremely caloric lol... but i will make it one day lol. i usually try to avoid gorgonzola and eat it maybe 4 times a year :)

anyway, i decided to make myself feel good so i updated my ticker. it looks better when i see 6 kg gone (or even better to see it in pounds lol).

i'm off to get ready for tonight. thank you britta and venice for being here and for listening :)

Lena

Have a good night, Lena!
It isn't because of you that I changed my sig, but I am glad I did :D
When you slip, just go back to the plan.
I hope you have fun tonight! :D

Hey Lena,

Thanks for commenting on my diary. It was good to see some encouragement about my first weigh in. I just wanna let you know that you shouldn't feel bad about eating the chocolate cake. A change of lifestyle isn't about depriving yourself of the things you love, it's about learning to have them in moderation. Just keep at it. Obviously you're doing something right to have lost 14lbs!

I'm glad to hear I'm inspiring someone; I just wish it worked for me. I try very hard to practice what I preach, so at least I have that. ;)

I love carnivals, is this the kind with rides and games and other fun ways to waste money and win prizes? I hope you do take lots of pictures for us; and show off that great smile in a few of them. :D

@QJ
no this is the one with lots of masks that take over the town lol there are about 10000 of those today...99 groups. they made their own masks and are usually making fun of everything what hapenned in last five years. there are also groups that carry big belles (up to 25 kg in wight and ring them to chase away the winter and bring back the spring)... i'll try to get a few photos today :) and that great smile of mine lol

@sophie...no, not yet. we wont see each other until april and i'm not taking him back just like that lol. i wanna hear in person what he has to say.

chocolate soy pudding is the best :) i tried something like chocolate mousse...it is amazing. i never tasted better.

@pequin
it definitely was. yesterday at noon we went for some coffee and were barely able to walk. it was so funny.

anyway i did 30 minutes on the elliptical yestrday so i'm very proud of that. and like that wasn't enough i did 30 more minutes doing situps, crunches, weights. i felt soo much better after that.

i thaught just to put a photo of those bell-ringers (these are the scariest lol). see you all tomorrow :)

have a great day! Lena

Hi Lena! Enjoy the carnival! I'm going to Venice's one today. I think that the word carnival has a quite different meaning for europeans and americans...I have some american friends and I spent half an hour yesterday trying to make them understand what exactly carnival is..hehehe

It's like Mardi Gras ;)
We know it as the event "Carnival" not as "a carnival", for us "carnival games" are often rigged games of chance and skill that favor the people putting them on.

That looks like a lot of fun! I'd love to come to a big celebration like that sometime; I hope I'll be able to travel in the coming years because I would really love a chance to come to Europe and learn a few foreign languages. I have thought about going to a few of the European specialty schools for programs like a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) so that I could get paid to go places and teach people how to speak English (which I love doing).
I also really enjoy doing cultural research, and love learning about the history and traditions of anyplace; even my own! :D
I hope you're having fun!

Is it really like Mardi Gras?
I know that the Venetian carnival uses masks to kind of put everyone on the same level: rich and poor, nobleman and citizen, beautiful and ordinary, young and odd.
I think it really sounds like so much fun, with the parties, dancing, and theatrical masks.
Mardi Gras in the States has just turned into a crude joke, with a very degrading main attraction.
It is my understanding that Carnival is supposed to have a universal meaning as 'the celebration of life'.
I dont really know too much more about Carnivale, but when you say that it's like Mardi Gras, do you mean it is a celebration of Fat Tuesday?

Good job on the elliptical! That thing is though. I can do 30 minutes if I push myself, but I rarely do! lol Sounds like you got a great workout in!

What I mean is it is a celebration where people put on masks and costumes and go out and dance, sing, wander the streets doing strange things that make no sense the rest of the year, and just have a good time. They might even pick up a few souvenirs along the way or things like that. Good food and drink are sold or even given away and people just wander around having fun until the wee hours of the morning.

Does that sound like your carnival, Lena?
