Ladeportista's Weight Loss Diary

Okay, so I heard that a diary is a good motivator. I have tried before but I think maybe one on a public forum where people will read it and maybe give feedback and encouragement will help.

Day One: April 2, 2011

I am trying to increase my water intake because I heard that lots of water helps shed the pounds. I am also trying to cut out junk food (although chocolate will be hard).

With exercising, I like to walk, jump rope, and dance but I think I will have trouble because I like group exercise and I don't have a gym membership at the moment. I'm hoping this will forum will help with the motivation factor.

Hi!

I also enjoy dancing, and it's most of the time my cardio of choice! In my experience if I deny myself something I really like then I cave and binge on it so my new approche is everything in moderation. There is a lot of support and motivation in the diary section and also the monthly challenge help.

Yayy, new diary! It really does help when you log food and exercise and chat about frustrations with others. I know many people on here who credit this forum to their success so far, me being one of them!

Good Luck! Also if you happen to be in a big enough city I am sure there are free meetups where you can go on the weekends to do walks or something with other people. I personally like both working out with other people and working out on my own. I feel like if the class I am going with is filled with lazy people I would rather be at home because I want a class of people who really want to workout.

The gym I used to go to had people work in pairs and it really frustrated me at times because some people wanted to chat more then workout.

Youtube has awesome videos for workouts I would recommend the tone it up girls channel.

That is a great idea. I live in a small-ish city (Charlottesville, VA). I really like the idea of working out with other people so I can keep motivated. I think that is one reason I always did team sports-- the motivation factor of 20 other girls needing you there at practice.

I will definitely check out that youtube channel you suggested!

Maybe you should take up team sport again. I think doing sports or exercise with others is also the easiest way because it has other benefits such as hte social side.

Once i took up triathlon and joined a training club which was great even though i didn't fit in but i lost lots of weight really fast. I loved it until i injured my knee and had to give it up.

I am not really a gym person because i like being outside. That said, i do love a yoga class but i can't afford to do one. So i work in my garden and walk the dog on the beach with my father. Its good i do it a lot but i am in a lazy mode right now...

Good luck with your program.

2 April 2011

I downloaded an app for my ipod touch that tracks my calories and exercise while showing me my nutrient levels for the day. I love it. It is called MyFitnessPal. I think it was free. Since I can't take my computer with me all day, I track my meals and food and exercise and then I can post it one here. If I didn't have something that I can reach at all times, I think I would be more likely to cheat on my food diary by "forgetting" to mention that I ate something.

Yesterday, April 2, my food intake was good, until dinner. My fiance surprised me by taking me out to eat at Outback. I LOVE their bread and tend to eat too much of it.

B- 2 egg omelette, apple
S- granola bar, water
L- baby carrots, 100 grand bar- fun size (a candy bar), water
S- peanut butter crackers, coke zero
D- 6oz sirloin, baked potato with a little butter, salad with ranch on the side, vanilla ice cream with a small amount of chocolate sauce, 2 coke zeroes
S- granola bar

I went for a 30 minute walk yesterday and did some pushups and crunches. I also did some exercises with my kettle bell (a little 5-lb one).

I did drink a lot more water than usual- 2 16.9 oz bottles, which is 2 bottles more than normal. I am trying to always carry water with me so I will drink it instead of other drinks.

My meals are all so unhealthy. Except breakfast. I love omelettes. I ate it plain, which I don't usually like but it was better than nothing. I felt more energized and I would like to credit the actual breakfast that I ate since most days I don't eat one at all.

MyFitnessPal told me that I was 233 calories over my 1280 calorie goal. :(
I will have to try harder.

Today, I have been much better but still I don't eat real meals. Just small things. I will have to change that. When I do eat a real meal, I tend to eat larger portions than the recommended portion size. I will need to research the recommended portion sizes so that I can practice good eating.

My fiance recently got me a bunny, an early Easter present. A real live bunny. She is adorable, whitw with brown spots and ears that stick up, a typical bunny. Since getting her, my vegetable intake has skyrocketed. We feed her baby carrots, celery heads, and tried cabbage (which we found they shouldn't eat). And the funny thing is, now I am eating those things too. I didn't like carrots but when we bought these, I tried one and I love them. So now, we buy the bag of them and Bunny and I split the bag. I also have been eating more fruit.

Today's food intake (so far) is:
B- 1/2 outback's honey wheat bread, black tea
S- granola bar, peanut butter crackers, coke zero
L- 1/2 honey wheat bread, 5 baby carrots, coke zero
D- whales (similar to goldfish), dried cranberries and raisins
S- granola bar

Water- only 2 cups today

That is all I have so far. My meals are a little messed up because I don't like to eat a full meal at work since I only get a short break, making my lunch at 6p. I ate breakfast before I left and my snack at 3p, so I still had something every few hours but it is difficult to manage eating at the right time with a skewed schedule.

I didn't exercise today. I did well yesterday but I was so exhausted when I woke up that I didn't do anything before work. I might still do something tonight.

Thats so cute that you and bunny share the veg! What did you call her?

Haha, yes we do. My fiance also gives her my apples. I don't have a name for her yet so I call her Bunny. Even after I name her, I will probably still call her Bunny.

MyFitnessPal is definitely awesome. I've tried others but it works the best and is the most convenient to use. I can take it anywhere that I take my ipod!

Monday's Food Log

Looks better than Sundays with regards to having real meals. I used 1239 of my 1280 calories.

B- granola bar, tea (hot tea, black, with a tiny bit of skim milk and sugar)
S- peanut butter crackers, coke zero
L- small apple, baby carrots, angel hair pasta with sauce, black tea
D- double hamburger (plain, nothing on it), 1/2 small chocolate frosty (wendy's)
S- 1/2 serving tiny twist pretzels

I drank 5 cups of water. Much better than the 2 that I drank yesterday.
No exercise today other than walking around at work and shopping on my way home.
