lack of energy

hello, the past month or so i havnt been able to workout effectively at all due to lack of energy. ive been eating the same as before when i had enough energy to get a good workout andi was fine, but all of a sudden ive only been able to do about hlaf of what i usually can do. does anyone know what i can do to get some sort of energy boost? thanks in advance and sorry if this is a stupid question.

oh im already taking one a day men's every morning, and i think im getting enough carbs, i have usually atleast two bagels a day, and a roll at lunch. i will try coffee though, thanks for your help.

it could be overtraining, how much do you usually train in a week?
though id bet its a diet issue.
Getting enough sleep?

well i only work out twice a week, full body both times. i dont think thats too strenuous, but i havnt been able to work out effectively so i havnt in about a month or so, so even if i overworked my muscles i would think they'd be ready by now but i dunno. my diet has gotten much better since i started excersizing more seriously as opposed to all up until a few months ago i had been drinking sodas and eating junk food. im 17 years old and 120 lbs, ive never had a lack of energy problem before and have played sports my whole life and i ate that junk food because i could, i never gain any fat, and well i just started to try to gain muscle when this happened. as for sleep, i have to wake up at 6 every morning for school but i usually goto bed around 10 which is 8 hours of sleep, but on fridays im extra tired for osme reason(never happened previously) and i usually goto bed between 8 and 9. sorry if it seems like i have an answer for everything, i wish i didnt so i could fix this, but i just dont know what could be wrong. could it possibly be from stress form school or something? not that ide know how to change that, i still have o get As right. : )

Yeah, it could possibly be just mental fatigue...I work full time and go to school full time, so i'm no stranger to a bit of stress. Although you being 17 it's hard to believe how much stress you'd have at the moment...it's a tough call.

yea i cant imagin how busy you must be, mabie its just stupid high school bs i have to deal with, im often frustrated with idiots, but i dont know that that should relate to me not having energy.

oh well i didnt know that about peanuts lol, but yea i know i dont have the best diet, but my peanut butter bagels sure beat eating an entire box of cookies or gushers every time i got hungry, but i didnt have any energy problems when i was eating bad ever, i could do anything, ugh i dunno.

try cleaning up you're diet. its worth a shot! If the energy getts worse or wont get better, see a doc or something.

pcrg01, can you keep track of EVERYTHING you eat for 2-3 days and then post it here so we can take a look at it?

What time are you working out? What does your workout consist of, and how long does it last? Besides school and working out, what other activities/sports/extracurriculars are involved in on a regular basis?

MAXX

yea i could do that, ill tell you what i have been eating as well. basically i had a peanut butter bagel for breakfast(sometimes a small glass of milk as well), i had the regualr school lunch, which consists of the main course which varies everyday, a roll, a small milk, and usually some kind of fruit. then i get home and have another peanut butter bagel and i start my workout. i usually drink water or milk before, during ,and after my workout as well. then after i usually have about 3-4 cups of yogurt(yoplait) with the previously stated milk and i rest. for dinner it also varies but it always contains meat, beef or chicken, but i usually dont eat that much for dinner, but ide have either more yogurt or another peanut butter bagel later as well as a few more glasses of milk.

my workout usually lasts about 30 minutes and i pretty much work everything, sometimes i skip some muscles becuasei dont want to overwork them, but pretty much biceps, bench press, quads, hams, and abs every time. i usually did triceps and shoulders and calves every other time.

my only other activity is im on the tennis team, we play tennis in class for 30 minutes everyday, but once im home and done with my workout i basically do nothing, which i wouldnt think would use up much energy.

but like i said earlier, nothing has changed except or the better, i used to eat cereal for breakfast, two nutrigrains and a water at lunch, and junk food and sodas all day once i got home. im beginning to think i do jsut ned to goto the doctor and see what could be wrong because i cant figure it out.

Well, for starters, I think you need to eat more for breakfast--it is the most important meal for providing energy throughout the day.

Second, eat 5 meals to give you continued energy throughout the day ( 3 main meals, and 2 snack meals). Add a snack meal between breakfast and lunch--I know it may be tough with school.

Finally, you may not be getting enough calories overall. You are exercising, particpating in tennis, and you are a growing teenager. That means you need a lot more calories than the average person. You can find some online diet journals where you can input the foods you eat and it will track your calories. If you become a good label reader, you'll eventually be able to track them in your head--even if you don't have a label! ;)

And sorry to say but the protein in peanuts is close to worthless. :(

Blasphemy!!!

No protein is worthless. Markus, you need to get your hands on some good peanuts. from a health food shop a 100g serving is 30g of protein. Thats the same as a chicken breast.

Yes most of the rest is fat, but its unsaturted oilly fat, which is great for slowing digestion before bed.

alright thanks maxx ill try that, but yea we cant have food or drinks in any class, only lunch, but other than that i will do it.
