I am really bad at keeping up with diaries but here it goes!

I am 20 years old and I live in Michigan. I'm 5'6'' and I weigh 258lbs. My goal is somewhere in between 165lbs. - 180lbs but think my real goal is 170lbs., so this means I'm looking to lose 88lbs!!!
I liked when I weighed 170, I just got back from a workshop in California, I was really tan and in shape, and I meet my fiancé` when I was this weight.

I am trying to lose this weight for my May 09' wedding, so I only have 10months to lose it!

I may not lose all of it by then but even losing half would be a great improvement.

I have a hard time with binge/ over eating especially when I'm stressed out- and right now I'm very stressed as I am trying to finish up my summer semester course work and it seems like every 10 minutes there is some kind of distraction!

Not only do I want to lose weight for my wedding but also I want to lose weight for my health. I currently don't have any weight related issues, I just want to prevent them from happening.
I do have Polycystic Ovaries, which I have had since I was 11 or 12, and weight loss/ good health can really minimize the number and size of the cysts.

Right now my main form of exercise is walking. I walk at least 5 days a week with my dog for about 15-25 mins per a day. I would like our walks to last longer and be faster paced. He's a beagle and loves to sniff/ explorer so sometimes it's hard for him to keep walking straight for more than a few minutes.

I also want to take up swimming because I love it!! I used to be on a swim team when I was younger and I had a great time.

And I want to do some toning up. If I do end up losing a lot of weight I am going to want to still want to look good in my wedding dress.

Thanks for letting me share my not-so planned out plan :)
Back to homework now!

I was horrible today and the day hasn't even ended!

I need to have actual meals and regulated snacks-

When I woke up (really late, around 10:30am) I had a big glass of water, a big glass of pom. and cranberry juice, a can of chickpeas w/ BBQ sauce on them, and a soy yogurt.

Later in the day around 2pm I had a HUGE plate of brown rice and stir fried veggies. And a tall glass og V8 veggie juice.

Then about an hour ago I had a smaller vegan pepperoni sandwich.
I know I ate something else...oh I had a few bites of hubby-to-be's oatmeal.
And I've been munching on dates all day, I've probably had 12 or something.

When hubby-to-be gets home from work, I know I'll be tempted to eat whatever junk he might be eating. i'll try to get some fruit ready before he gets here.

I started the birthday challenge on the forums at least:)

How do I decide what my calorie intake should be? I have never counted calories in my life. Can anyone help me with that?

So I checked my BRM (is that what it's called?) and I am supposed be taking in 2,392 calories per a day if I wanted to keep up this body weight. Obviously I don't want to do that so is a 30% reduction, ok? That would leave me with about 1,675 calories a day. Too little? Too much?

Note: I had a banana and more of that stir-fry.

Goal:
Drink at least 1/2 gallon of Water and try to count calories. Walk dog for 30minutes. Do some streching.

Breakfast:
-One strawberry soy yogurt w/ 1 teaspoon Brewer's yeast mixed in 180 calories
-One Red apple 127 calories
-One Banana 172
- Tall Glass of H2O
= 479 calories

BMR - Basal Metabolic Rate... Those are the calories you'd need were you to never get out of bed... That doesn't factor in any type of activity thru out the day...

In the nutrition forum there' sa link for the Harris benedict formula... which factors in activity (including lifestyle)

you want to eat for the person you are -not the size you want to be -because as you drop weight your calories will need to drop as well and you want to make sure there's room to drop them..

you could probably lose weight at 2000 calories a day... just being sure that you're recording everything you're eating.... just to analyze later if adjustments need to be made.

Thank you, maleficent!

2,000 is a good starting goal. I'll go with that!

Woo-hoo! 2 cups of H2O and 1 cup of tea.

And one date- 23 calories

Hi Knena!

It sounds like you are driven and you have a great goal to look forward to. I am getting married in september so my deadline fast approaches!

Swimming is AWESOME! I wish I could do more of it too!

Walking is great, I know what it's like to walk the dog who wants to sniff EVERYTHING, i have 2 dogs and they make it impossible to keep up any kind of pace. What kind of work do you do? Are you in school?

Good luck and welcome! You're going to do great!

Hi Dawn! Thanks for the support and congrats on your Sept. wedding!! I'm so excited for mine and it's 10 mons. away, can't even imagine how excited you must be ;D

I'm a full-time student, I don't have a major though. I'm just taking coursework that would assist me in running a non-profit org., I want to start an animal sanctuary.
I hope to have a job soon! I have an interview tomorrow morning (and I can't fit into anything!), I'm trying to get a job as a dog groomer. I have lots of experience with bathing dogs but it wouldn't hurt to have more, plus I'd get to make a few bucks.

What kind of puppies do you have?

Lunch-
-1 cup of cherries, 84 calories
-1 cup frozen spinach, w/ 1 tsp. of olive oil and some salt and pepper,70 calories
- Vegan Bolonga Sandwich w/ mustard and vegan mayo, 310 calories

Snack-
-8oz. veggie juice, 45 calories

1498-509= 989 caloies left
I better slow down and try to fill up on some water.

I figure I'll post my calorie/food here for about a week. That way I can get kind of strict about keeping track of what I'm eating.
I'm not sure how often I should weigh myself. My scale is kinda old is varies up to 3lbs. each time I get in it. Maybe once a week, that way I'm not obsessing about it.
I'm so excited to be doing this! Although it should have happened along time ago but better later than never, right;)

Hi Knena!

I weigh myself around once a week. I find that if i do it any more frequently i just get frustrated.

We have a bichon frise (who i can barely tolerate, lol - he's still not 100% potty trained) named Remy who is about a year old and a whippet mix who is about 2 named Shade. Where are you from? If you're from south florida you can groom Remy, we'll pay you lol.

Hey welcome to the forum. I've noticed your a vegan. I'm a kinda vegetarian (I wont eat meat unless its organic, but I do eat fish). I decided to go veggie because of all the saturated fats there are in meats and I wanted to boycott the feedlots. I believe healthy farm raised animals are leaner and healthier for us. Anyways, what my question is is how do those veggie slabs of "pepperoni" taste? We have veggie ham, beef, chicken, and turkey, but I've been hesitant to try them because I don't want to eat a sandwich that tastes like soy on bread.

Hi adeon!
That's great you’re trying to do your part to reduce animal suffering!
I'd watch out for meat labeled organic, though since this labeling has nothing to do with how the animals are treated before and during slaughter. I believe the only way to feel like your meat comes from a humane source is to buy locally and visit the farm yourself.
I think most of the mock animal products out there are really, really tasty, although I wouldn't know any better since I haven't had meat in 5 years, lol! Although, I can't say much for the fake cheeses, those need a lot of work before non-vegans would ever find them appetizing. I usually make my own, but it's more of a cheese sauce and is only really good for pizza or pasta.

Have you tried the fake steak and chicken strips from Morningstar farms? Those things are creepy realistic!

Dawn, I would love to groom your puppies but I live all the way in MI :D
I hear you about potty training, too! My baby is a rescued beagle, he used to someone's "huntin'" dog and lived outside so it took him almost a year to understand the concept of going potty outside!

Ah! hubby-to-be, J, brought pizza home! I think I had 6 slices-I said I was a binge eater! I was feeling pretty good, too:(
I'll do better tomorrow!
At least I got my water in. Ya!
And I made plans to meet up with J at 9:30 tonight to take the dog out.
So I think I ate about 2,500 calories today. Definelty less than what I usually eat but, still too much.
I'm really going to try to keep it at 2,000 tomorrow!

How do yo guys keep from breaking down and eating whatever you want? It feels so hard for me.

Good luck! You're going to do great on your interview!

The only way I can manage to avoid freaking out and eating everything in site is by moderating myself small amounts of anything that I really want. If I want a donut, I eat a quarter or half of one and don't beat myself up about it. Eventually it gets to the point where you adjust to your new diet and don't crave the same things anymore. Jumping right into something really restrictive where you feel denied of everything you love is really what hurt me in the past when it came to watching what I ate.

Another thing that helped me is that I found a few "treats" that I love that are healthier...i LOVE skinny cow ice cream sandwiches, for instance, and if i feel like pigging out on some cake or something I can zero in on how good my ice cream sandwich is going to be later. It really helps me!

For things like pizza I'm the type of girl where if i have one slice i want to eat 10 more. I eat it MUCH more slowly now, I rip it up into tiny little pieces and eat it that way. I used to eat REALLY FAST and I found this to be my downfall...everyone else is finishing their first piece and I'm on my third. If you focus on eating slower and enjoying what you are eating then maybe you can eat less? Try having a sip of water after every bite. :)

I know everyone is different but those are some things that helped me. Don't beat yourself up about the pizza, just move on and remember that its a new day!

I am with Dawn in the slow eating department. I cut my food smaller and chew on it for longer that way a smaller portion can last me more time! And eventually I will have eaten less!

I eat meat (not too much, I eat tons of fish though), but I don't eat gluten or lactose (well in theory, in practice I end up having lactose, because it is just too freaking hard!) and I second what you say on vegan-cheese... I had some soyarella (soy version of mozzarella) to put on my self made gluten free pizza, and the darn thing never melted. It ended up tasting a bit like soy on soy... but once you forget the original taste of things life gets easier!

Congrats on the wedding, I am sure that you will be a stunning bride no matter how much you lost, but it is a great goal to have! My goal technically is the first week of october, since we are moving to a new country and I sort of wanted to have a clean slate, a new life started at the weight I like myself to be... but seeing how I have lost about 4 pounds in the last3 months, I think I may be a bit optimistic.
But no matter how much down we are, a pound down is better than no pound down!

Have a great day, Camy

Thanks Dawn and Camy!
Camy, that must be so exciting to move to a new country- the furthest I've ever gone is Canada! Good luck with your weight loss- I'm sure you'll be happy with what ever you do end up losing.

I agree with you, the soyarealla or any other vegan cheese I've had, has never really melted. I've heard good things about Teese vegan cheese, though but it's been so long I don't really have a desire to seek out cheese analogs anymore.

My interview went all right, I was extremely nervous though. I was asked back for a second interview tomorrow with the rest of the supervisors.

The job wasn't what I thought it would be- you start off bathing dogs for 6 weeks, then they I get sent away for a month to live in a hotel (the store pays for it) in a different city while I get my grooming training. I'm going to have to leave my puppy and my fiancé` for a whole month!!! Then I have to sign a 2 year contract with them saying that I can't groom dogs unless it's for them. It seems pretty intensive but I'm going to go for it because I'm going to need insurance, right now I'm still covered by my Dad's.

I bought a new shirt at the consignment store for my 2nd interview since I can't really fit into anything I have :p I love the way it looks! It has little light green flowers on it- it kind of looks like the ones on the wedding invites we picked out.

Yes, I definitely need to work on slowing down when I eat and cut things up into smaller bites. I also need to sit down when I eat, it seems like I'm always waking around while I snack, not sure why.

At least I stayed under 2,000 calories yesterday! I didn’t really eat the healthiest things though, but it’s a start. I did feel a little hungry but not totally deprived, probably because I managed to fit some Taco Bell in for lunch yesterday:) I drank at least 64oz. of water, too! I did walk the dog but we didn't go very fast because my kid cousin and fiancé` came with me, they like to mosey. Plus, it was so hot, 90 degrees, and we weren't up too much.

Here's what I had yesterday-

Breakfast:
-1 1/2 cups soy yogurt, w/ 1 tsp. brewer's yeast, and 3/4-cup blueberries
-Cup of orange and pineapple juice
-1 slice toast w/ vegan cream cheese

Lunch:
-1 taco with only beans and guac. - I added some vegan sour cream
-1 cup rice with 1/2-cup tomato and green chilies

Dinner:
-1 baked potato w/ veg. sour cream
-2 cups spinach

Snacks:
-1 cup cherries
-2 cucumbers sliced up with salt, pepper, and a bit of vegan mayo for dipping
-Soy hotdog w/ mustard- no bun

Todays' Goals:
-Don't go over 2,000 calories
-Drink at least 64 oz. water
-Ride my bike for 25 minutes- I really should do more bike riding- I have a trail right next to my house.

I haven't weighed myself yet. I started the b-day challenge and my first weigh-in is the on 21st, my goal is 256lbs.

Breakfast:
-3/4 chickpeas w/ 2 tbs. BBQ sauce (normally I would eat like 1and 1/2 cans and give the other 1/2 to my dog, we both are crazy about chickpeas!)
-Cup of orange and pineapple Juice
=225 calories

Lunch:
-Brussel Sprouts w/ pepper
-"Hamburger" (it was the Yves ground "beef" never had it before but it tastes a lot like reg. temph) on bun with pepper and mustard w/ a few green olives
= 315 calories

1,460 left

And I drank 48oz of water.

Those brussel sprouts made me so full! I am really surprised!
I want to go on a bike ride but it's so hot-it will cool down if it ever rains!
Back to homework!

Woo-hoo! I rode my bike for 25mins! I went on the trail w/ my little cousin, we had a pretty good time until we're attacked by mosquitoes...
I think he is going to end up helping me a lot on my way towards a healthier life. He's a very active kid and is always asking me to play basketball with him and go on bike rides:)

I had my 2nd interview today and I think I got the job! They sent me in for the drug screening so I figure they plan on hiring me if they’re going to shell out money for the test.

I did OK on food today. I stayed at 2000 calories but I was a little hungry because I blew a bunch of calories on a marzipan and chocolate bar, I couldn't resist!

I drank over 64oz. of water but I think I am starting to have a bit of trouble with drinking so much. It seems like every 1/2 hour I'm running to the bathroom. Is that normal? Do you get used to drinking this much water after awhile? Hope so!

I'm feeling pretty good so far. I have weighed myself but I want to wait to post until it's been a whole week!
