Hey guys, I have a quick question. I have been doing squats for about 4 weeks now and in the past couple of workouts I've been noticing that I can feel my knee sort of pop a little bit when I bend my leg from straight to a 45 degree angle. There is no pain at all, I simply feel a slight pop, doesn't make a noise like cracking a joint or anything... but if you put your hand on the knee cap when I bend from a locked out position to a 45 you can feel it... I spoke to a friend about it and he told me that it's a normal thing for people that are starting to work legs for their first time and it just needs to get stronger. He told me the same happened to him when he began squatting but it doesn't happen to him anymore when he's squatting 365 pounds. I just wanted to confirm with you all and ask if it is, in fact, a normal thing to happen.
I would go to a doctor but I'm pretty sure the doc would say stop doing squats for a couple weeks and see how it does... I don't really want to lose the ground I've made with squats and stop working the biggest muscle in my body though. I don't see why I should considering there is no pain or swelling of any sort. The popping is located on the lower outside corner under my patella before my leg even reaches a 30 degree angle. If I go below parallel is does a good amount more of crackling so I don't do that, but other than that there's just the one pop everytime it bends to about 20 degree. Another interesting thing i noticed is that it only does it when my quad is flexed. For example, if I slide my leg relaxed on the floor to bend it, no pop. When I sit in a chair with my leg straight out and bend it 30, with my quad flexed, it does the little pop.
