Kimmyluna's weight loss diary 1.7

I probably was right on or just over my daily allowance of calories, after dinner time. We had hot dogs and baked beans. It would have been the condiments for the hot dogs that would have done it. And I kept to my word about no soda, even though by the end of the night, I really wanted one. So, I had another cup of coffee with no cal sweetener and some creamer. And I did keep myself busy today, so I wouldn't fall asleep. But, it is now almost 10 pm and am definitely satiated and very sleepy, so will go to bed and be back on a schedule to do my walks in the morning. So, goodnight everyone!

so a good day then, right??? WTG on not drinking soda!! send that will power this way!!! lol

Yeah, it was a great day, either than being sleepy. I finished my last book and started a new one. It's called Dark Magic by Christine Feehan. Another old book I haven't read in a long time. Gonna have to order some more books, soon, too. My hubby's been reading those other two series that I had and is really liking them, the only problem is that he reads a lot quicker than I do, so by the time, I'm done with one book, he'll be almost halfway thru the second one! The kids were fun and listening to music pumped me up, too. He's also going to be taking a walk with me this morning. Except, he didn't want to get up until after he could get a cup of coffee in him! lol I've just been getting up, taking my walk and that's a good energy booster all by itself, and then after coming home, making some coffee.

He's all like, "I'm sorry that you feel that you have to lose some weight. I think you're beautiful just the way you are." and I know he would always love me, no matter what weight I am, but I'm not happy with ballooning up. He doesn't necessarily need to lose some weight, he mostly wants to build muscle tone. But, it would be great to have a workout partner. Also, to strength train with.

*Will power sending* hehe, hope it helps!

i'm glad your hubby says stuff like that to you!! But your right, you have to do it for you!!! I didn't feel that way and my husband used to tell me i was perfect the way I was...then he started shrugging his shoulders about it...now he's telling me i really need to do something...lol, so don't put it off! lol

I'm a book reader too....but I've got a Kindle I read all my books on lately. Have you read 50 shades of grey?? I honestly skip most the sex scenes and I thought it was a great read!

Yeah, I've met his ex and she ballooned up after having 3 kids and I see how he thinks she's fat, so I never want to get like that. And no, I've never read that one. If it's a romance, honestly, I don't read a whole lot of those. Nowadays, I don't pick that kind of genre up, but I have in the past.

The walk was really nice. Especially, with having him along. Someone to talk to. I usually go to almost the end of the road, but he was saying, "why not just walk the rest of the way?" and I wasn't tired or anything, so we did and then went back. So, the walk was about 1 hr and 13 mins.

Another question to everybody: I finally looked on the cable box and saw that Insanity Workout that I think everybody was talking about. Is it? Gonna check it out and may use that.

That darn insanity workout on the cable was just an advertisement for it! BOOOO! Couldn't find anything else one there...sigh. I've been thinking about maybe getting some workout dvds. Don't know yet... I've got some good ideas on how to work my arms and my legs, but haven't found any good exercises for my abs, yet. Or at least ones I can remember, since I can only go by ones that I see on websites. Or perhaps I will just keep them open on the screen and just do it that way. That sounds like a better idea.

Oh, and I've been weighing myself and it looked like I got up to 173 lbs after those few days of bad eating, but now I'm back down to 170. I was about to worry there! But, I've been good the last couple of days. No binge eating yet. AND NO SODA! You guys can't imagine how proud I am of that. Or maybe you can...lol

I thought I should make some mini-goals to keep for every week. Alot of them (if not all of them) will more than likely be an ongoing thing.

1. No soda.

2. Take my morning walks at least 6 days a week.

3. Drink more water.

4. Do ab exercises every 3 days.

5. Do lower body exercises every 3 days.

6. Do arm exercises every 3 days.

7. No more than 1691 calories a day, if not a little less.

Food log for today was the same as it was yesterday, except I had a sausage link, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans for dinner. Should be right on for calories. Did ab exercises today, also. I'm going to end up using this old vhs that I had for about 10-15 years now called Firm Parts 5-Day Abs. We own a couple of vcr's , at least. I also have some other old ones: Tamilee Webb's Buns of Steel, Thighs of Steel, and another Firm Parts. And I wish I could use the old Step Reebok video, too, but I no longer own the Step Reebok platform. I'm still annoyed that I ever gave that away. Another thing on my wishlist is a bicycle.

My momma had Tamilee Webb's buns of steel! Those will definitely give you a workout, if I remember. I used to do them in high school and remember being pretty exhausted afterward. Those look like some great mini goals as well. I should start doing that more myself. I think I'm focusing too much on the numbers on the scale and not as much on what I'm doing to get those numbers. I had set goals like "ride bike to work" and "run every morning", but have gotten so wrapped up in other things. I like your goals, I might have to steal the "no soda" one haha! I drink it occasionally but I usually feel not very good afterwards, so maybe I should try to give it up all together and just always opt for water.

I'm glad to see you didn't let the small gain get you down! And now you are back to 170! Keep it up!

Hi Kimmy. I'm new here. I like your diary. It is motivational to see someone that is really serious like this. Thank you for posting it :)

P.S. I have found that if I eat a banana (for potassium) every day and stretch my legs really good before I walk or run, I don't get those leg pains. Have you tried that?

Man, I tried to write an entry a few hrs ago, then all of a sudden, there was a major thunderstorm and whenever that happens, the power goes out, SO now I gotta remember what I wrote! :banghead:

le_squish: Yeah, I remember one session from the Thighs of Steel tape, that had a series of squats, wide legged squats and plie squats that I absolutely loved since they made my thighs burn in a good way. Thank you about the mini-goals. I thought they were a good idea, too, lol. I have been kinda obsessed about the number on the scale, though, also. Yeah, you would not believe how much unnecessary calories add up, if you drink even one soda a day.

kj67: Thank you! That really means a lot to me! There just came a point where, well, I just turned 30 and I decided I just did not want to wait any longer in being happy with my weight. I'm not growing any younger! I haven't actively tried to lose weight for a long time, though. I do eat bananas on occasion and I know I should stretch more often. Bad habit, I know!

So, today I had:

2 cups of coffee

2 egg salad sandwiches with a slice of velveeta cheese

and going to have biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs for dinner.

Shouldn't be too bad on calories today, either.

Last night, I did get hungry and I ate a banana and spoonful of peanut butter. It almost made me cry wanting a bowl of that Marshmallow Mateys cereal that the kids have for breakfast. It's like cocoa puffs with flavored marshmallows in it. But, after having the peanut butter, I was feeling satiated, at least. And then after that, I knew I just wanted it for the sweetness.

I also took the day off from my walk and will start back up tomorrow. I did do my lower body exercises today, though. 3 sets of 12 reps each:

squats

wide leg squats

plie squats

lunges

reverse lunges

standing outer leg lifts (w/ 5 lb ankle weights)

lying down inner leg lifts (also w/ ankle weights)

butt blaster (on hands and knees with a 5lb dumbell behind your knee, lifting your leg up till it's parallel to the floor)

Tomorrow, I want to do my arm exercises and might work some ab exercises in, too. Just haven't felt the burn in my abs in a while, feeling I'm not making much progress on that part.

So, I've decided I REALLY want to get an aerobic step. I mean, the walking is too darn repetitive, I can't listen to music at the same time, which I know would make the time fly. And I don't know what I would do when the winter months come and it gets really cold outside. I just don't see myself wearing a bunch of layers to brave the cold. And you can burn more calories doing less time doing step aerobics than you can walking.

I've been a little bad today on the eating part, but I haven't over ate, yet! I had 2 hashbrown patties for breakfast and I really wanted an ice cream sandwich, so I did. 460 calories

lunch, I only had a small pecan tart. Not sure on the calories there, but I haven't eaten anything else yet, today. Not sure what's for dinner, yet.

I did do a 30 min walk this morning, but I really didn't want to pass a bunch of construction workers, so I headed back early.

Food log for today, so far

2 cups of coffee = 160

lunch: 2 sandwiches with mustard, 1 slice for each of cotto salami, black forest ham, velveeta cheese, one roma tomato and a couple leaves of lettuce = 727

total: 887

Dinner is potluck night. I think I will do one chicken salad sandwich with two hard boiled eggs. Starting to run out of eggs, hopefully will get more soon. That total should be 1527.

I did do some binge eating last night. :) Not very happy about that. I also didn't do my walk this morning. The pool is back up now (we had to drain it to clean it and hook up the new vacuum hose to it before refilling it), so I can do some swimming instead. It would be more fun than walking.

I've been kinda obsessing over what aerobic step I want to get. There are some that are long like the gyms have and there are ones that are shorter. I can't really afford the longer ones, even though that's what I really want to get. Does anybody use one? What kind and how do you like it? I've been going over so many reviews on people using different kinds and there are some people that are happy with the shorter ones, while others are not. Either because they are used to the ones in the gyms or they are taller. I am shorter, so I don't think I will have much problem with the shorter ones.

Okay, I've decided I want to try eating 5 small meals a day, so I don't feel so hungry by the end of the night. I'm planning on getting some yogurt and baby carrots to go with the rest of my diet. I will just have to regulate how much I eat at dinnertime.

Sounds good. It works for me, except I eat six times a day. Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, evening snack (after my walk). I try to keep it at 1650 calories for the day and get the five fruits/vegetables in plus fiber and calcium. I have a lot of energy all day with this way. It keeps up the metabolism which according to my nutrionist helps burn calories.

kj67: Yeah, six times sounds good, except I end up waking up about 10:30 am or so. Don't usually get to bed until around 2 or 3 in the morning. Always have been a night owl. I have been trying to get more fruits and vegetables in, but I don't really have money of my own to spend right now, so I have to eat what the family gets for food. They do usually keep bananas, oranges, grapes and plums around the house. But, they don't last very long. Usually just canned vegetables at dinner time.

Food log so far for today:

2 cups of coffee = 160

breakfast: 2 packets of strawberries n' cream instant oatmeal = 260

mid morning snack: one plum = 30

lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, another cup of coffee = 220

total so far: 670 cals (actually not feeling all that hungry right now)

Dinner will probably be spaghetti and meatballs. Might have a yogurt cup for dessert. I need to try to cut down on the coffee, except at least it's something sweet and I'm not drinking soda anymore, though.

Heya Kimmy!! Thanks for dropping by my diary! I meant to write in here this morning but ran out of time before work.

I love swimming, I live in a really warm part of Aus (as in, it's still technically winter... but right now it's 31 degrees celcius! At 3pm! It was hotter earlier, haha!) Our house has a pool, actually went swimming the other day. I can't really walk at the moment as having problems with my knees, but swimming is great!

As for you getting pain in your shins/knees after walking, what kind of shoes are you wearing? Are they old/ worn out? Do they have enough support? Usually they're the culprit for those kinds of pains!

If you're finding your hip flexors are tight, you can stretch them with your quads- Standing, grab your heel and pull your foot in gently as close to your butt as you can, and you'll feel a stretch through the front of your thigh. Then kind of push that hip out a little, and you'll feel the stretch extend through your hip. Hold it for 15-30secs. And just do it whenever you need to, you don't need to wait until after a walk or workout!

Also if you're working out at home, it's good to aim to hit all your major muscle groups- Chest, back, glutes, quads, hamstrings. Compound exercises are best (exercises which use more than one muscle group- it'll save time, you'll burn more, and you use extra stabilising muscles getting there!) A really simple routine could look like this:

5-10min warm up (walking, marching on spot, dancing, stationary bike, something to increase your heart rate a bit and get you feeling warm!)

3x 12-15 squats (quads/ front of thigh, glutes/ butt)

3x 12-15 push ups/ kneeling push ups (pecs/chest, triceps/ back of arm)

3x 12-15 hip raises or hamstring curls on a fit ball (hamstrings/back of thigh, hip raises are more for glutes though but are a good step up to hamstring curls)

3x 12-15 dumbell bent over rows, or if you find your dumbells aren't heavy enough, look up the Y-T-I routine. It targets back only and you can do it without equipment (lats/upper back, biceps/ front of arm (only if you're doing rows)

So that's all major muscle groups... You could now add in a few complimentary exercises, like shoulder press, calf raises, or you could go on and work arms again (though you have worked them with push ups and rows) Bicep curls and tricep dips are always good and simple!

As for core, you could do a little routine at the end of your workout-

3x 12-15 crunches (rectus abdominis/ 6 pack muscle)

3x 12-15 back extensions (erector spinae/ spinal muscles that keep you upright)

And then end with plank- 1 minute is a good time to aim for, you can do this off your knees also to start off with. I don't even really bother with abs, I just plank. Unfortunately doing crunches won't get you a flat stomach, and you actually get really strong abdominals just from doing other body weight exercises. You're always engaging your core whenever you are balancing, lifting etc. Good diet and regular exercise will get you an awesome stomach without crunches!

As for cardio, walking/running is definitely the cheapest option! Or cycling if you have a bike, swimming if you have a pool, skipping rope is good too.

And best time to work out is whenever you have the time!

Oh I'm a qualified fitness instructor by the way, haha not just giving you random info! You look like you're doing really well, good luck with your goals!

Hey Kimmy!

Ha, I was drawn to your diary because one of my very well loved ragdoll cats is called Kimura.. Kimmy for short! Go figure!

How're you still doing the 5 small meals a day? Are you actually feeling full or are you gonna go back to a breakfast/lunch/mainmeal /snacks etc? If it IS good, what would you suggest filling up on? Proteins?

Sounds like you're determined, and well on your way! Stick to it, my cat and I will have our beady little eyes on you! :D

ALudafuzz has got great advice! :iagree: !

It must be very hard staying in control of your eating, when you haven't got any money for food, and you just have to eat whatever is served up for you, or is already in the cupboards. I find it hard to go in shops with all the temptation, it must be hard having it under your nose. Are you looking for work? Think it will be easier when you find something because at least then you will be able to buy diet friendly food.

I bet your place is crazy all the time with so many people!

Where do you live? x

luzdafuzz: Thanks for all the great advice! I am trying to get some exercise in! It's not that my shins hurt when I'm walking, it's when I try to add jogging into it that they start to hurt. I try to work separate parts of my body on different days, so I don't wear them out too quickly. But, I have been thinking about doing all-over exercises to work more than one body part. The weather is pretty darn hot here in Texas. It gets up to 95-98 degrees during the day, so I have been trying to do my walking early morning when it's a lot cooler. I wish I had a bicycle.

sarah1983: Awww, what a pretty kitty! I used to have a couple of cats myself. One was a grey tabby and the other was a minx. Minxes don't have any tails, but have much bigger hind legs for balance, instead. I woke up kinda late today, so I haven't gotten to do the 5 meals a day. But it seems to work really well. Eating a small meal every 2-3 hrs seems to help curb my hunger better. Except if I don't get to bed early, I'll end up getting hungry again! So, last night at around 2 in the morning, I had a tbsp of peanut butter and it helped me get to sleep. Yes, proteins is a good idea. It fills you up faster in half the amount than carbs can.

overtherainbow: It is kinda hard to control my eating with all the temptation. They just love getting donut holes and cakes whenever possible and there still is ice cream sandwiches in the freezer, too! I am kinda looking for work, but there isn't much around here, unless I want to have to do a 2 hr drive just to get to a different town! I live in Livingston, TX and yeah, it does get a little crazy around here. The two little ones are constantly "Aunt Kim!" "Pick me up!" "Play with me!" lol You ever heard of BeyBlades? It seems to be the latest craze for kids around here, the kids even got my hubby playing with them and buying his own to play with! The oldest (he's 13) wants to start up a local BeyBlade Club for the school close to home.

I didn't have the greatest choice of foods today, but I didn't overeat yet, either. I had:

one cup of coffee, a small piece of pepperoni cheese bread for breakfast

lunch: one pb&j sandwich

snack: corn chips with salsa

that should be around 1030 cals.

it's now 5:30 pm and dinner will be soon. Not sure what's planned, yet if anything. Might be leftover spaghetti from yesterday.
