Kenneths Journey into the Realm of Fitness

Ok so here goes my first entry...

As of now I can say only that I'm very dissatisfied with myself and the choices I've made as well as the choices that I continue to make while knowing that I need to make different ones.

I feel that I'll be doing myself a great big favor to start off by completely eliminating my alcohol intake for a while..... this will be one of the more difficult obstacles to overcome, I'm sure.

I read somewhere that "You must burn 3,500 calories to lose a pound of fat and all you have to do to gain a pound is eat 12 doughnuts" I found that to be a little inspiring on how it put things in perspective slightly..... kind of humurous to.

Well Lets see how the day goes.

I can't say much accept that my stepsister Tina would like to team up... I gave her the link to this site and told her I thought it was a really cool place. Mayb having a partner would help me out a little.

She wants to get the daily workout in the evening though.... I've always been told that performing it in the mornings is best..... I could always do a little something in the mornings and evening though.... what do you guys and gals think?

Also today I should mention that he's coming home.... but I'm not going to let it distract me.... I want to be happy again and I'll never really be there as long as I feel as gross as I do...... :puke:

for some of us it takes just looking at a doughnut to gain a pound. :p
So Kenneth, what are your goals for weightloss? do you have a specific weight or pants size in mind? Eliminating alchohol will probably help you drop weight fairly easily at first, especially if you used to drink the high calorie stuff.
Have you thought about what kind of exercise you'll be doing?
Sorry for all the questions all of a sudden, it just helps having it all spelled out right at the beginning.
Take care!

Hey there

I plan on getting into a habit of getting in the aerobic in.... I need to get my lungs working better..... a little walk sometimes leaves me breathing hard.... and that totaly sucks! ;-)

A friend of mine has a bowflex Revolution..... I'm trying to get a workout plan going with that........ and on a daily basis just generaly trying to fit eveything in in a sensible manner.....

I've really lost touch with living healthier..... I can't even stand to look at myself because of how out of shape I've gotten....... and that is a terrible feeling to have....

Just make sure you don't push yourself too hard too fast. A lot of people end up starting off like a champ then wearing out after a couple of weeks. make sure that you do things in stages. start eating better, take walks, drink more water. don't immediately start pounding your body into a pulp hoping to get faster results.
Not liking what you see in the mirror IS a terrible feeling, but if you're willing to make the changes, and put in the effort, you'll see a difference. and the confidence and better outlook will follow.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask around, we're a friendly bunch.
Take care!

quitting the grog and starting some basic exercise is a great start, Have you considered what changes you may need to make to your diet ?

Wow you guys are awesome....

airmanwifey.... yes.... starting off smaller and being consistent with it will help it to become more of a natural part of my life-style and that's really what I want.... I seek permanence with all of this.

Well Trusylver.... The biggest obstacle is my daily diet...... I really don't know where to start with all of it.....

Well, to start with, There are countless calculators online that will give you a good idea of what your calorie range should be each day. For weight loss, subtract around 500 calories from your "maintenance" level. it's figured based on height, gender, and activity level mostly(as far as I've found at least). once you have that number you should adjust your food (and drinks!!!) so that you don't go over that number. between that and whatever daily exercise you get in, you should be well on your way to getting on the right track. Take a look around this forum and read the stickies. the nutrition section has some good information. and as always, if you've got questions, ASK! ;)
Take care!!

Ugh. Boy can I relate!!

Welcome! :waving:

I used to workout first in the morning and then changed to the evening, now I workout in the morning. I was told it didnt' matter when you workout, as long as you do it. I do it in the morning so I can't make excuses as to why I "can't" workout that day.

Taking The first step on what I'm sure shall be a long but worthwhile journey...

So I'm setting my alarm clock for 4:30 in the morning.... and plan on officialy forcing my butt into gear with everything...... I used to be an early morning guy... and that'd be the best time get my official workout of the day in.... and I'll be visiting the calorie calculator tonight........

Good luck, We all can do it if you set your mind to it. I'm glad to see more bros on here for support. It seems that alot of women give each other support, but for us men it seems taboo sometimes. Make it happen and start living your life again.

not entirely true. yes there are a lot of women on here, but if you look around there are quite a few guys on here too. trops, reluctantcabbie, usedtobefatmatt, steve, gregolso, jzthedetermined, sammyboy24....and the list goes on. look around, you'll find the testosterone support you're wanting. ;) and hey, there's nothing wrong with us women-folk doing the supporting too. :p :D

HAHAHA..... ummmm....

So, how did the early morning go?

Well... I woke up when the alarm went off, sat straight up in bed, just long enough to turn it off and fell straight back.... I'm gonna keep trying though... I talked my bf into going on walks with me.... and I did some calculating today.....

that's great that your bf is willing to go walking with you. you get both the exercise, and the quality time together. two birds, one walk. ;)

I agree....

Yeah! I second that!

I totaly agree with the both of you....

I need someones opinion here.... I went to the online calculator thing and it said that in order for me to create a reasonable caloric defecit that I should get in roughly 2,335 calories. This seems like a lot to me...... it had me enter in my height and bodyweight......

So I tried to figure it all into a 15 hourday..... minus the three hours before bedtime and came up with......... 550 for breakfast, 392 for an in-between snack, 550 for lunch, another 392 for an in between snack, and a 450 dinner.... I really need some hardcore input on this.... I'm sorry but a 392 calorie snack sounds a little heavy... maybe not but I don't know....... and I'm new at all of this..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Oh... I didn't mean to put the thumbs down thingy on the heading... just thought it was a question mark....

which calculator did you use? and if you don't mind answering, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? I know 2300 seems like a whole lot, but you have to keep in mind that you should be including anything that you drink that isn't water into that, and for a meal, sometimes 400 is a little low. you don't have to hit that exact number every day, sometimes you'll eat more, sometimes you'll eat less. and any ammount of exercising will be burning calories too. the 2300 is just a number to give you a place to start.

Well... I'm 5'8 and I weigh...........................................255. I really need a place to start and I'm hoping that this can help to keep track of things a bit more......

I'm shooting for an early start to my day again.... I know that If I Keep trying, I'll be able to get it sooner or later.....

Well, from what I could find, 2300 is the right number. you should be aiming for somewhere between 2000 and 2500 depending on how much exercise you're doing each day and how much you're wanting to loose. 3500 calories in a pound, 7 days in a week- so to lose a pound a week you'd need a 500 cal deficit(2500 calories a day). to lose 2 lbs a wee you'd need 1000 cal deficit(2000 calories a day) provided you're not doing any large ammount of exercise too.
I really hope I'm making sense to you.
So, you can play around a bit with what you're eating to rach your caloric needs each day. you'd be surprised at how easy it can be to reach 2300 without really trying. and if it still seems like you can't reach that no matter how much you stuff yourself, feel free to adjust it. Really this is a game of trial and error most of the time. Find what works best for you and stick with it. I just thought it might help to have a starting point.
Hope you have better luck waking up this time. ;)
