kelly's diary

I feel "safe" at the moment making my dinner, knowing there is NOTHING tempting me tonight. Last night I got up at 3 a.m. and had a ww pita with some pickled peppers inside. Then I googled "stopping eating in the middle of the night" and it was actually helpful, I read something that gave me the strength to just go back to bed with a cold drink of water. No pitas left, only vegetables in the fridge. Oh, I may have a grapefruit befoe bed and leave a few sections out for m.o.n.

Okay I'm off to bed. There is no tempting food in the house. I am eager to have another night to practice repatterning my night time behaviour wrt eating in the middle of the night.

Tonight I have left a few sections of grapefruit and am chilling some limewater in the fridge. I am going to knock this bad habit out. Just for tonight I am going to beat emotional eating. Will report my results in the morning.

Good night all.

Calories about 1500 today.

Steps 12,980.

I thought there was nothing in the house that I could eat in the middle of the night last night but I did find something and I'm rather ashamed of it, I ate a pouch of hot chocolate mix dry off the spoon and I also ate a package of dry ramen noodles. Well there are no more noodles and I suppose i will have to turf the rest of the hot chocolate or else it will tempt me again?

In brighter news I took my measurements this morning and in ten days have lost 1/2" off the smallest part of my waist and an inch off my waist at the navel as well as 1/2"off my hips so I am LOSING ABDOMINAL FAT!!!! 2"gone in ten days.

This inspires me to keep on walking the way I have been.

Weight steady this morning at 185.

I'm sorry you're struggling with night-time eating :( Do you have a cupboard you can lock all the noms in and give the key to a partner/family member/someone you live with?

good work loosing the inches :)

are you leaving to large a gap between your last meal and going to bed ?

Hi thanks for dropping by my diary :)
I used to wear my pedometer every day but haven't used it for a couple of months but you have inspired me to start using it again. I found it really helped to make me walk more to make sure that I always did at least 10,000 steps a day. I really need to get back into regular exercise again after all the christmas celebrations and then going on holiday.
Well done on losing another lb. :)

Thanks for dropping in to my diary :)

I think it would help if you added in some other exercise to go with your walking as you mentioned in my diary but you need to start slow and not do to much to soon otherwise the DOMS from a new routine can become an barrier. Your idea of doing wall pushups is good and will over time lead to being able to do other types of pushups. Yes planks are also a good idea.

Reading back I can see you have had a little knee pain from your walking, do you also have problems with your ankles or hips ? pain in one joint can be caused by problems in a different joint but doing some proprioception (balance) exercise will help strengthen all three joints and help prevent injury. In the morning stand on one leg while your brushing your teeth and aim to work up to a 3 minute balance then at night do the same for the other leg (doesn't have to be separated but do each leg at least once per day) when 3 minutes can be achieved then it can be made harder later on.

Another cause of knee pain after walking is an imbalance between hamstring and quadriceps strength. A modified version of a wall sit which was developed by the Fulham football club will strengthen all the muscles in the legs and butt. get into a normal wall sit position feet flat and shoulder distance apart with knees bent in the squat position and back straight against a wall but after 5-10 seconds lift your heels off the ground and continue to hold for another 5-10 seconds before again changing by lifting your toes up and having your weight on your heels. With time and improved strength the sit can be held for longer.

get used to doing a few exercises before adding in more variety. :)

Yeh I did indoor exercises today and stretched. Really have a ways to go to good fitness and am looking forward to learning more I can do TODAY to increase my health. I admit, I bought a bottle of CLA today (conjugated linoleic acid) that is reported to assist weight loss.

Cooked. Have 12 freezer meals ready. Meals simple and small and am persevering with my plan to lose weight though it is slow. Wonder what I can do to speed up weight loss. Want to have a bodyweight toning routine that I can do along with walking.

It is 6 o clock. I want to eat my dinner so bad because I'm a little hungry and a little bored but I've been waiting till 7 to eat cuz its closer to bed time. I just had 1/2 a grapefruit and a few baby carrots and another bottle of water.

Yes,I'm bored. Bored of tv, bored of sitting by myself. Perhaps an evening stroll is in order for a little mood elevation? Only problem its dark out, which isn't a total disaster, it would just take a little effort.

Calories 1300 today on Fitday. For dessert I had an instant oatmeal with apple and cinnamon and an entire bowl of diet jello. Holy artificial flavouring. First in a while. Should be alright for the night. Have a few grapefruit sections ready if I must have something later.

So today was a good day foodwise.

Now that is was I call excellent preparation! I do cook in advance but just for a few days at a time. For me, the key to weightloss is preparing my own food so that I know exactly what I eat. I also prefer my own food to the restaurant at work. It does require discipline though to consistently prepare food in advance.

I had a great night. Did not eat in the middle of the night, except for one small grapefruit section. I timed my calories well yesterday leaving enough for a decent bed time snack, so I will keep that in mind.

What's got me worried is my weight loss is so slow I'm afraid I'm going to get discouraged.

I have to remember that I've lost a couple inches off my belly in the last ten days. But I wish there was something I could do to speed up my weight loss.

Of course it hasn't even been three weeks since I've been trying to lose. Am hovering around 4-5 pounds off so that is pretty good. I just know that I used to work much harder at exercise when I was going to the gym but that is not an option now that my income which is fixed is so low.

Still today I will eat my 4 small meals and bedtime snack, log my calories and will do some dynamic stretching and go for a walk.

Whoa, I just found a trick that's gonna get me through the next two weeks of dieting. New food. I just enjoyed my first portion of "chicken penne alfredo" which is a mock alfredo for 440 calories a portion and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Finished with an absolutely delicious bowl of a new kind of oatmeal I'm trying its Omega Hemp by Quaker Harvest and there is a barely there sweetness that is just divine to me. Still get to have my bowl of diet jello and all days food for 1315 calories which has been really okay these last two days.

Got my 12,000 steps in.

CBC News reports 80% of Canadians are sedentary 70% of the time, only 1 in 7 gets the 2-3 hours vigorous exercise per week.

Aww I just answered you finally but you found it for yourself, lol. Sorry work's been crazy and I had to sit down and refigure the calories for the recipe since I changed them all to be around 550. That way I don't have to count calories....I just do a 350 calorie breakfast and two of my frozen dinners and good to go. I haven't done any cooking though for a minute and my variety is sparse ;/. Did you find my old link in my diary for the calories or did you just do it yourself with fitday like I did? Here's another link to some great recipes. They're not freezer ones but they look good for when you feel like cooking.
