jogging

Today I increased my jogging time to 5 minutes with 2 minute walk for 60 min.
Form slightly better than last week. Went all out last two three minutes.
Walked additional 25 minutes. 342 calories burned.

A few weeks ago I thought I was too fat to jog.

Chubettes can jog too

Hi Kelly...I felt as you did about being to chubby to jog. lol But I did it anyway and now have been jogging off/on for several years (even did several marathons back in the day).

60 minutes of interval jogging is so excellent. They say interval jogging actually helps weight loss even more because you can go longer. Back when I jogged for 60 minutes, the weight poured off me. Are you jogging outside, in your beautiful geography?

Good for you Kelly! You can do it. Just keep it up and before you know it you'll be jogging the whole way :) That's how I started too!

I'm so glad for you that you're getting into running. And to think I used to hate, hate, hate it! Everyday I thank God that I had a friend who put up with my whining and coaxed me along through the early months of my puffing and wheezing and side stiches and shin sprints....and endless complaining. I started with fast walking, then run/walk/running, gradually increasing the running/walking ratio until I was flat out running....I still remember the sense of accomplishment that came with completeing my first mile without stopping. And there is this moment that comes in the course of running, not every time but often enough, when it stops being about "calorie burn" or "cardio" or "exercise"...it's just this sensation of mind/bod/spirit all being in sync, your body feeling "perfect" as you move through space....like it's doing something it was designed to do....umm, I like running - can ya tell?

oh, and just make sure you're wearing a good, properly fitting running bra...a good test is to jump up and down - the girls should not bounce even a little.:)

Isn't it great to see that you are able to do something you didn't think you could! I know I felt exactly the same way with sprinting!

You are doing such a great job!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement

That's awesome. The runner's high. You gotta know in the beginning you're gonna feel better once you're warmed up. I can't do it too often because I feel it in my knees the next day. Will look forward to it once a week. Maybe twice. Cross training.

Today's numbers

Calories in 2658 (328 prebreakfast)
Calories out 2295 (I'm suspicious of this. Think it might be more)
Surplus 363

I'm a hungry girl today.

But it is the middle of march and I haven't given up my new year's resolution.

Good on you for jogging. I can never find anywhere private enough to do it! Maybe when I have lost a bit more weight.

shy about jogging

My determination and enjoyment of jogging is overcoming my fear of the jiggle. Plus I just bought an electric-not-red-not-pink adidas running shirt. My second fancy running shirt so now I have two. I HAVE to stop spending.

Any thoughts on stopping spending and living simply?

Thought that along with charting my weight I should chart my daily goal, to be healthy so I can be around my children and theirs for years. To have a reason to live is a good thing.

Reading George Sheehan's book called Going the Distance which he wrote while afflected with prostate cancer. He said, among many other wise things, age is the combat for which we are training.

Just as I check my weight every morning I will also check "feeling great".

Today I was back down to 189.

Good for you for jogging, Kelly. I'm not especially proud of the way I look now, but then I look at a lot of skinnier people who couldn't complete 15 minutes of my workout, and I feel better about myself. Keep concentrating on the fact that you've taken the step to a healthier life, and don't worry about what others may think of you.

My wife Marlene has told me that since I started this program last July, I've had a much more positive outlook toward the world. I think she's right. And you will too, I bet.

Hey Kelly! It's been a long time since I've been on here. Super busy with work, new baby, husband, and school. It sounds like you are doing amazing. The jogging is addictive isn't it? My daughter loves to go with me now. I am training for a 5k in May and will be doing a triathlon in the fall. You should do a 5k this spring. The first one I did was horrifying. I had to walk most of the way because I was so out of shape. But it made me more ambitious and I trained really hard to get better. The pregnancy totally ruined me. My thighs are going to set my pants on fire from all the friction. :) Well, keep up the good work!
