kelly's diary

Just thought I'd pop in and say "have a great week-end!" I have a thought about your deficit....it may be easier than you think...it's always helped me to look back over my food list at the end of the day and see what little (boy do they add up) adjustments I could have made to end up with the same volume/taste/quality of food - stuff like 1 oz skim mozz. cheese has 70 cals compared to 110 in colby cheese, or 4 oz 97% lean white ground turkey has 112 cals compared to 206 in regular ground turkey.

Am remembering eating butter from the brick. Spreading it on thick on rice cakes so that it would take lots to fill in the little spaces. Butter, butter. Bowls of buttered popcorn. Now all that butter is sitting on me. But I will burn it off.

EEEWWW - LOL - I never thought to put butter on rice cakes - heh heh heh

Hope all is going well with you my dear - woohoo on the compliment !!!

Saturday

Wow. Yesterday's deficit was 728 calories. Yeh for me.

When I start to think its so slow I try to think of the positive things and that's what I came up with today.

I saw two acquaintances yesterday that have lost at least twenty pounds since I saw them last and they look fabulous and radiant.

One girl says her antidepressant, Celexa, is helping. But it makes her hot all the time.

In my book "You on a Diet", another anti-depressant Wellbutrin "has been shown to be effective for weight loss by influencing levels of norepinephrine (the fight or flight neurochemical), as well as increasing the pleasure-seeking dopamine... The norepinephrine increase that suppresses hunger causes your heart rate to increase and your blood pressure to increase, also speeding your metabolism...The downside is that the study was done with a dose of Well butrin that is associated with an icreased risk of seizures..."

Now I know some of you may think I'm looking for a quick fix. You're right. Lol. But even with these drugs the loss is gradual.

I know that its in my blood to be physically active everyday and that I have maintained my weight of close to 200 pounds for five years. I Love long slow distance running and would do that if I could but my bulk is a hinderance. Instead I am a long distance walker. I gained my weight through chronic low levels of stress eating when life didn't have much to recommend it. I have long stopped overeating. I know that if I had some help to undo the damage that was done when I was depressed and on so much weight gaining meds that I would take it.

The side effects are shitty. Dry mouth is a drag. Increased heartrate unsettling? It would probably be unpleasant.

Still I am going to ask about it.

i don't know much about any of that stuff (medications), so all i can say is to do what is best for you! you are working hard to reach a goal, and you are definitely moving in the right direction!

you have been nothing but sweet and supportive of me, and i am here to do the same for you!! :)

and congrats on the huge dificit!! :)

Wellbutrin

I have to add that a sign of looking for a quick fix would be calling for an appointment TOMORROW. But I have an appointment three weeks from now and I'll wait for then.

well now I have to add

that from what I just read about Wellbutrin it doesn't sound like its for me. There is no quick fixes without hazards.

meridia

Meridia is a new drug used to combat obesity but it is not a quick fix. More it seems to help motivate people to stick with the lifestyle change. No studies of longer than a year on it. For people with BMI of over 30 or 27 with obesity-related illnesses.

When used correctly it might help someone in the "danger zone" lose a small but helpful amount over the course of a year. Nothing earth shattering.

I'll ask my doctor about it but this forum is motivating me to stick with the lifestyle. Walked in the rain with an umbrella for 47 minutes today, it was lovely. Think I'll go out again. This counts for more than medication but if there was a drug that would decrease my appetite a little I would like to try it. Speed. Lol.

Kelly, thanks for stopping by & cheering me up. I needed it!

The problem with pills is that, unless you're ready to take them for the rest of your life, they're not really a solution (even though today, if someone offered me the "Magic Pill" I'd probably have take it!).

You're doing great as it is -- I think you'll make it just by sticking to the plan you're on.

Hiya Kelly,

I just noticed you had a journal :) I will read through it tomorrow morning..Have a goodnight.. and thanks for the pm's :)

Sunday

Maintenance 1953
Calories from exercise 357
Total daily burn 2310
Calories Consumed 1828
Deficit 482

I have seen so many maintenance levels for someone my size ranging from 1800-2300. Am using 1953 right now. Keeping a chart is educational and helpful.

Today I did a swim workout and later walked uptown, 47 minutes listening to Pink Floyd Meddle in the pouring rain. It has its own flavour.

M2M inspired me this morning with her run and then canyon hike so I set out to do two activities. Thanks M2M. Thanks forum buddies.

monday

Had two rice cakes in the night and as I lay there thinking how the starch is was turning to sugar in my blood I began to feel buzzed and awake plus it did nothing to curb my hunger. Ended up with a tbsp of pb and 22 almonds and a drink of water. I hate to drink water in the night but it was good and helped a lot to curb the hunger.

Read Cym's journal this morning and it has inspired me to go for a run/walk. See what I've got inside.
