kelly's diary

Kelly is A-W-E-S-O-M-E

I was deeply touched to read your thread and the post where you share so much of yourself. And what a wonderful self you are. My father has bipolar disorder and I've had depression all my life. It took me a couple decades as an adult to accept I need meds. Mental illness is very hard for people to understand because some think we could just control it if we just "buck up". It's as legitimate as any other disorder diabetes, Lupus, etc.

I gotta tell you, you have a way with words. Not just your honesty, but the way you put things together. You should write.

Keep up the good habits on your exercise and healthy eating, my fellow "chubette" (cute). You are an inspiration to us all. And I'm also touched to see how supportive people on this forum are. What a community.

Luv to you all!

Kind words lili.

I just came back on to say that I can't believe how good I feel about the way I am eating these days. Don't know if its enough to lose but no bad feelings around food in a long time and don't anticipate any. Okay, going to move that post about my past to the front of my diary now.

Hi hope saturday is treating you well so far - :D:D:D Is it snowing on the Island as well - it is here - BLAH _ I knew it has been to cold

saturday 24

Breakfast: Oatmeal, brown sugar
Coffee, cream, little honey

Snack: muffin, apple

Lunch: Veggie salami sandwich, Vegetable soup

Snack: 20 almonds, raw carrot sticks

Supper: 2.5 chapatis, eggplant and cauliflower subji, mung dal

Was at about 1150 before supper. Maybe 800 for dinner. 1950 for day.

Swam 30 minutes
Walked 45
2 litres water

Up at 6:30 to drive youngest to sports weekend. Then had a very pleasant day with my 17 year old son, Nimai, ("knee-my") out and about, practiced his parallel parking and came home and cooked an Indian meal including fresh chapatis which he made. Lost track of calories but feel like I ate just the right amount of food. Good.

Had some fun this morning trying to create an avatar but it came out rather dark.

Later we went to the park and took pictures. At first I was disappointed by today's pictures of my face, thought they were chubby. But not compared to the one we found two months ago where I looked even rounder.

Gee golly, tasty and kinda good for you; nice!

It sounds like you folks are having a good time eating some ehealthy food ;)
I like Indian food, do you use any garam masala in your chapatis?
I bought some "Curry Powder" because I was unedumacated in the area of Indian Curries, and it turned out to be the exact ingredient list for a few different Garam Masala recipes :D I don't know the exact portions, but it is still some tasty stuff.
The only thing I haven't figured out is how to give it the same creamy/sweet texture and flavor that it has in restaurants... *looks thoughtful* Any advice?

so last night I ate a little something

while "sleeping", I was hungry and sleepy at the same time. A muffin, and a small handful of almonds. Recognizing that this midnight snack has left me partially full this morning. Good awareness.

Eating 1900 calories and over a bit. Counting on aerobics to tone me up. Had to look through many photos taken yesterday find one I liked enough post. Saw signs of aging in my face with some sagging and my protruding belly.

Its good to not see ourselves sometimes. Sidney Poirtier grew up "rich but poor" on an island with no mirrors, had never seen his reflection until he moved to Florida (hard to believe but true) during an era of discrimination. He had no sense of "colour" and said "f**k this" and has earned his reputation as "An Uncommon Man" (title of his biography). That moved me.

You have a 17 year old son that cooks Indian food? I'm jealous. lol Yummmmmy.

What a cool story about Sidney Poitier...I didn't know that. I've been wanting to read his book.

Looks like you're eating on plan and getting your exercise in (swimming, walking, aerobics). Good going! :)

Hope you had a good weekend Kelly! Thanks for posting a pic of yourself...it's so nice to be able to put a face to the name. :)

It's great that you're becoming more aware of what you're eating and when. I'm finding that now, good habits are stuck...even when I give myself permission to 'cheat', I still watch portions and calories. :)

Thought I would make an appearance in your journal. :D

I hope all is well and you had a fantastic weekend. :)

Hi Chubette,

you sound like you are doing well, you know yourself, you are well motivated, you plan, and you are a realist.

Keep taking those little steps forward.

Manda

thank you everybody

Tonight one of my brothers was over, he 's 47, and we were talking about how many years we have left of being mobile. We have a 60 year old brother who runs marathons when he's not busy running a 35 yearold veterinary practice. He does more in a week than most of us do in a month. So active.

So I'm telling myself, I gotta move it. Every day. Move it or lose it.

Aerobics in the morning. Gardening after. Will see what I can do.

Bit the bullet today. Took my "Before" photo in gym clothes. Its hard to turn your butt to the camera and say "get this".

But I have realized that I need to judge my progress by more than the scale.

God grant me the ability to do some work and live within my budget.

Good night all.

Thank you so much for posting in my diary. You helped confirm what I am learning. Good habits.

I have been wanting to strengthen the new friendships I have made here, so I posted a photo. You were one of the first to help me.

I lost a pound!

Well, I have entered the 180s. It took me two and a half weeks eating roughly 1900 calories. Yeh! That's a confidence builder.

Way to go!! That's awesome!!! I know exactly how you feel taking so long for the scale to move down though. Congrats!!!

So, How many siblings do you have? What's the span between youngest and oldest?
