Katie, in transition

Hey katie!!

Long time no check up!! I've been gone for awhile too!

How you doing?! Tell me all of your exciting news :)

How's the diet and the workouts going?! :)

I can't wait to hear from you!

haha been slacking!!!

gave up on the p90x. mostly, at first, because my shoulder has really been bugging me. and then i think i just stopped caring so much. there's family stresses and stuff right now (my brother was supposed to have open-heart surgery tomorrow, but it got bumped)... so working out and eating well has kind of been pushed to the back burner.

I have also recently started half-assedly applying for new jobs. my current job does NOT seem to be getting any busier, and i need funds. its frustrating, but better to look than to sit here, broke and complaining.

so i think i am going to join the local gym this week. I have been waiting for the weather to get into running temperatures for me, so that i can train for my 10K (only like 5 weeks now... eek). i can't keep waiting for the weather, and i am probably going to need a gym membership eventually. the only thing would be if i were to get a job and want to move away... but can't count on that either. lol

so, not muuuuch to update on. haven't even weighed myself in a while, so can't comment on that. lol i do feel that my boobs are smaller though, and i was trying on 28" waist jeans the other day (wahoo!), which means i'm not getting bigger. there's some good news there i guess........ lol

ummm... not too much going on. thought about joining the local gym this week, but my job situation is headed back down the drain. so locking myself into a year of membership payments may not be the best idea right now, financially. haha fuuuuun.

that has caused me some frustration lately. like, i have 5 years of post-secondary schooling under my belt, giving me an honours degree and a diploma. and (not at all to brag), but i think my intelligence is probably above average..... how can i be out of work twice in one year? what else should i do? lol more schooling? volunteer? i wish i had a fairy god mother or something that would just whisper the secret to making money in my ear.

buuutt... weight-loss wise, still stable. i think p90x is done for good now. i went for a run today, to train for my 10K. I realized today, that it is in 4.5 weeks ahha. scary. and i ran 5.2 km today, with 3-4 breaks, in 35 minutes. doesn't look like i will have enough time to train so that i complete the whole thing running, but if the weather lets me continue to train, i should be able to do it in a respectable time. maybe the atmosphere of running around a bunch of other people will help me to go further, too. who knows.

Hey girl,

I understand that job issue. Once I graduated with my honours, I was faced with reality- jobs are hard to come by! Jeebus...my degree wasn't worth much, and was not getting me work that was any better than people without degrees!

Have you thought about going back to school? Does anything interest you? I know school is expensive, but a Master's degree can be worth it! And often times, you can work at your school while doing your Master's! And you can get scholarships and funding :D eh eh? Nudge nudge!

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I hope all is well with him, and his open heart surgery went well. I know how stressful a surgery like that can be, especially on a loved one. *hugs* I hope it went well, and all is ok :)

haven't been on here in forrever. lol also haven't really worked out in a while :(

actually just looking at either starting the Insanity program, or joining the gym in my town. not sure. any thoughts?

sorry for the lack of posts lately. will hopefully get back into it soon. need to kick my own ass.

i joined the gym in town :) on thursday of last week. and then i went again saturday and travelled 4 miles on the treadmill in 40 minutes. :) i am working on becoming a morning exerciser, so that I can't have any excuses or barriers at the end of the day. but i am going to hit the gym again tonight. work on upper body, and maybe run for 4 miles again. 2 weeks until the BIG 10K!!! :S sooo not ready.

i have re-visited my goal of being 130 lbs by June 15th. I am currently around 139 i think, and have determined that i WILL do it. I am going to crack down. No cheese slices at dinner (unless they are part of the meal itself), no fast food, no pizza, no ice cream or chocolate. work out 5 days per week. I am getting a fitness consultatin some time this week too, so hopefully there will be some useful tips for me in there. :)

i plan on posting on here more again. sorry for the absence lately.

ugh. just wrote out a long post, and the internet conked out on me when i went to post it. and i don't feel like typing it all out. so here's the coles notes:

had my fitness/nutrition assessment today at the gym. he said my goal of 130 lbs by june 15th will be tough, but is doable. basically, need to overhaul my eating (lower salt, less carbs, more protein), and do more curcuit-training exercising to keep my heart rate up during gym sessions to maximize on the calories burned. my body fat percentage was 26%, which is suuuper. heading to the gym in the morning to get my workout in, as i won't be able to do it after work. proactive katie. yaaay. lol

if anyone has any ideas for good meals that have no carbs in them, i would appreciate it. Also, low sodium ideas. most of my diet is centred around carbs, so picking meals that are only protein and healthy fats will be a serious challenge. research time...

Looks like you're on the right track. 9 lbs by mid June sounds though but I'm sure you can do it with the right diet choises and by sticking to your workout routine. Keep it up!

been working to eat well. the guy at the gym told me to eat 5 good meals a day. and if i want to see serious results, i have to eat well 90% of the time, so he said i can miss or cheat on 4 meals per week. hahaha jeez. i have been missing/cheating on one meal per day so far. its tough. but i am jsut getting started. maybe it will get easier with practice.

been going to the gym. fun. :) need to get some good ideas for circuit routines though. i find i would probably do better if i went in knowing what i was going to do, instead of spending some time at the gym trying to figure it out. its not how i am used to working out, so its just getting used to that, too. big changes. haha

the 10K is in one week, today. OMG... :S lol i have pledged to run 10K today, even if it takes me like 2 hours, i will do it. just deciding whether to do it at the gym, or outside. outside would probably be more beneficial, cause its harder. but outside is harder.... lol wish me luck.

oh, and Happy Easter Everyone! :)

Happy Easter Katie :) I can't believe the 10k is already here (a week from now)! WOW time really does fly. Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll do great. :)

hi katie :seeya: ...just wanted to drop in and let you know i'll be following your journal.. you are slightly tinier than me, but we seem to have the same goals and similarities with our challenges. i look forward to reading, i'm sure you will be a great motivation for me!

thanks for stopping by guys :) xe- i can't believe its come so fast either. haha i'm SO not ready lol

worked out a couple of routines for the gym. one is a circuit method, and the other is a 3-day split. not sure which one to put into practice. I am going to hit the gym with my dad tomorrow morning, and will probably just try the circuit one. give it a sort of test run before i commit.

me eating was really bad today. but AWESOME yesterday! i didn't cheat at all yesterday. progress doesn't happen overnight right? need small, baby steps to make a lifestyle change. thats how i am seeing it. eventually my cheat days will be less frequent. whoop.

well, better keep it short, gotta get to bed soon if i want to actually be able to get up in the morning for this 6 a.m. workout :S night all!

I totally agree with you here. A lifestyle change is something you really have to work at everyday. Great job Katie:party: Keep it up!

my 10K was yesterday! wooo! my time was 1:00:54. omg... it was SUCH a rush. i finished and had the biggest high. people were cheering the whole way, and especially at the end. running with 15,000 other people. omg. i am hooked. it was more than 24 hours ago now, but when i think about, i still get jacked. it was mostly downhill, which is why my time was so decent. but whatever! i ran 10K!!! ... and my boyfriend only beat me by like 2.5 minutes. :D hahahaha i can't wait to find another one to go to.

otherwise, i haven't been all toooo good with the working out and eating. i am thinking of making a chart that i can check off of my meals were good for that day or not, so it actually stares me in the face. might make me more accountable and less able to avoid it. i am 140.5 as of this morning, with 6 weeks left of my goal to reach 130 lbs. really, might be too late, but have to REALLY step it up right now if i want any chance of reaching my goal. hitting the gym this afternoon. at least i am not gaining, right? haha *sigh*

:willy_nilly:WOOOOOOOOOOO!:party::hurray: :cheers2: Congrats on the 10K Katie!!! I can imagine it must have been such a rush! Also congrats on maintaining, it is definitely MUCH better than gaining :)

thanks :D it was such a blast. i want to do one again soon-time. haha organized, charitable runs may become my new addiction. not bad as far as addictions go :p lol

been doing alright with eating, etc. was really productive today, and vacuumed the whole house (which i hate). probably burned a couple calories doing that, as i got sweating. i ALWAYS sweat while i vacuum. haha just me?

going to hit the gym today. yesterday, started the 3-day split workout that i made. it was awesoem. today is my "push" day. lookiing forward to it. or maybe i am tired out from all that vacuuming.... i'll go after my nap.

wow... another 2 month absence. sorry :S i never had many followers anyway, so less people to disappoint. lol hows thats for optimism?

been doing okay. keeping my weight at a stead 140, even with going on a stronger birth control pill, which my doc told me would add about 5 pounds. Did a fitness bootcamp through my gym in June, and it was KILLER. awesome, but couldn't afford to do it again in July. maybe August.

Been keeping relatively motivated. Just bought some new workout clothes today, so I can keep myself looking fresh at the gym. I never understand why people wear baggy, ugly, old, over-sized, faded clothes to the gym. I just feel so much better, and cooler, in actual workout clothes, that are designed to breathe and help you look good while you sweat. Its easier to watch yourself in the mirror for an hour when you are dressed nice. lol

Anyways, try to get back on here more often. hope everyone is doing well. :)

ANOTHER 2 month absence... hmmm... what has happened...?

oh, did another 10K run! it was August 27th. women's run. men were allowed, but there was only one. lol i ran it in 1:01:10, which is 15 seconds slower than my 1st 10K in May. BUT the course for this race was a lot more difficult (not so downhill, more flat), so i see this as a huge accomplishment. And my lovely boyfriend came to support me, and waited for me at the finish line. what a nice guy he can be :)

umm, was working out hard all summer. been told a few times that I look really good. Found a workout plan in a magazine called Lift to Burn, which was basically an awesome weight lifting routine to help burn fat. I really noticed a difference in my arms - more toned :). Joined the bootcamp through my gym again today for September. Should be good, I am hoping. I didn't really see any weight/body changes with the one I did in June, but it will at least keep me moving and keep me fit until I can find another kick ass routine. I hate planning workouts... And, as always, my eating is the pots.

Probably hit the gym tomorrow morning, maybe try some HIIT on the treadmill. I dread the thought of it, but I have heard it does wonders for your fat loss. Plus, I am going lingerie shopping with a girl friend in the afternoon, so a little bit of crazy cardio can't hurt, right? ;)

Not much else to report. Again, will try to get around to doing this more often. Helps keep on track.

Thanks :D I have really been slacking lately, and haven't been working out or running as much as I should. It defintiely took a lot of hard work to get my running to where it is. I am not a naturally born runner. So its defintiely around the top of my list of things I am most proud of. :)

Like I said above - been slacking. The bootcamp I joined got cancelled because I was the only one who joined. hahaha jeez. so I need to come up with a new routine for myself at the gym. ugh. Hate the planning part, and it never works out well for me when I do. Might have to use the p90x stuff for inspiration. or do some research. I have a bunch of supplements (just whey and an energy pre-workout mix) in my room... should start putting it to use. lol
