It's funny that you say that, because I heard somewhere that an individual will do 10% of what you do right & 90% of what you do wrong!...don't know how accurate that is....just thought it was interesting when I heard it!.....especially when applied to children!

That must be for all the unreplacable, extremely valuable executives in high paying positions that say and believe that, aye? ;)

Feeling very positive today. Planning workouts and nutrition for my sept 22 start is going well. Finding lot's of help and encouragement here on the site for both of those tasks. Thanks "Edco" for the short but effective workout routines. Setting my home gym up this weekend...very psched to do so. I've had equipment for years that sat idle for many years. Anxious to put them to use instead of hanging laundry off the barbell and stowing totes under the bench!

Why are you waitig for the 22nd? My wifes bd BTW.

Don't mention it! Good luck with the gym, Its great that you have equipment! I dont have room for much. I have a tire, a medicine ball and this week I am building a sandbag. I want some adjustable DB's but I cant decide if I should buy some or build my own.

I need to get through next week. Final court date...plus I want to have everything set up and ready as to not have any convienent reasons for failing. I'm eating good right now, just not begining the more "structured" lifestyle until then.

Yes, lucky to have equipment...anxious to start using it. Sandbags can give a great workout. Great for your grip too. As for dumbbells, I have the ugly hex end kind starting with 25#, in 5# increments to 75#'s. Never thought about making my own. I'm in steel fabrication, so I could always build my own equipment when the time comes (dip bar, t-bar, pretty much anything else I would need.

Sweet. Wish I was in fabrication. I would make all kinds of crap. Here is my plan (pic)

Let me know if you have a better idea.

Damn good idea. I don't know how I would improve on it. I made an EZ-curl bar for my olympic weight set...it weighs exactly 50#'s empty. Looks kind of funny for a guy to have 25's on each side and be struggling to finish a set!

Hey JZ just poppin' in to check up on ya today... Glad you're excited to get started with the "new you." You're going to do great! :D

Thanks, you are sweet.

So far, everyone here has been great about answering questions and showing support. I have learned a lot, and as I said before, am glad I "stumbled" into this forum.

JZ,
Thanks for the post. I dont mind helping out or lending support when needed. I dont know all the answers but will to share my experiences. I know what is it like to be overweight and how good it feels when you do lose. I know you will feel what it is like to be at your goal because you're doing a great job. Keep it up.

I know you're a hockey fan, what other sports? Football just getting underway. Big Pats fan but fighting an uphill battle at this point. Oh well, we can only wait and see. I think Cassell will be ok.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Matt

Matt,
Pro football, I like...really ashamed of this... the Lions. Have all my life. College football ROCKS!! Go BUCKS! They(college kids) still play with heart ya know? MLB...Tigers in American...Cubbies in the Nationals. Anyways, thanks for the encouragement and showing people that BIG losses are attainable!

Gym set up went good. I am ready to go! I actually did two workouts this weekend...half to do them, and half to see what weight I was able to push around. YIKES! I used to be in the +50# club...guys who could bench 50#'s more than they weigh...now, I'm in the -50# club! Squats were a total joke...My old max was around 450#'s...I did 300#'s and nearly blew my knee out! I will have to study up on good alternatives to squats for people with BAD knees. Hey, you have to start somewhere right? Hope my strength comes back along with the weightloss. Official start is still Sept. 22, and I am still very focused and anxious. Also experimenting with pre-prepaired meals this week...lots of chicken, salmon, and tons of VEGGIES. I think this is definately doable! It's kind of funny that my lunch box doubled in size, but contains half of the calories!

On the right track...

Glad to see you making progress and you haven't even "started" yet! Everything will go great, you seem to be implementing some positive changes. :biggrinjester:

Isn't it though? Crazy how much MORE food you can eat when it's healthy stuff!!! Glad to hear you got your gym set up... don't worry that you can't do what you used to, AT LEAST you're doing something about it NOW!!
You go boy lol! I can't WAIT to see your transformation!!!

Good to see that your gym set-up went well. And though your weight lifting numbers aren't as great as they used to be, they're still a lot higher than most start out with. I don't think I could bench 1/3 of my weight, so hey, you're kickin my tail over here. :biggrinjester:
Saw your other post about a different option for squats, and I honestly have no idea. if you don't get any responses, shoot Steve a PM. he's usually pretty good about helping out with that kind of thing.
Anyways, glad to see you're getting everything sorted out and prepped for your big start!

Hey, JZ. Just read through your journal and it sounds like you got a good start to things. One thing I would recommend is taking some measurements at this point, and some good before pics. You may or may not want to post them, but just to have them is a good thing. There will be times when your weight stagnates or things are changing and a good set of measurements to put things in perspective is just what you need to keep you motivated.

Secret - Thanks for droppin' in with the good word. I really appreciate it!

Paula- Thanks for the support...and I guess when I think about it, I only went down about 10-15 pounds on my bench...not bad for a six year lifting drout...must be all the "kid" presses I do. LOL

Am Wifey- Thanks for checking in and the encouraging words. Also, for the advise about asking Steve for some squat substitutes. Hope your journey is going well!

Trops- Good advise, and I definately will take befores, and measurements. I'd hate to get stifled by lack of progress, especially if it originates from my mind and not fact! It WILL be a good idea to have them on hand. Thanks!

Well, it's complete. Last court date today went well, and is now in the past!! A little more tweaking with the nutrition end of things... planning weekly grocery lists to pre-plan my meals... and finalizing a w.o. plan to stick to for 12 weeks(then will judge progress and adjust if necessary)...And I'm on my way! Anxious and excited to "officially" start my new lifestyle of fitness and self improvement come 9/22! Glad I'm not tracking calories tonight... going out to celebrate my "one day, 120 pound weight loss"! How many calories in a Budweiser?!? :reddevil:

LMAO I love how you refer to this all as a 120 pound weight loss! Go ahead and celebrate tonight... you deserve it! :D
