WHY
I have/am going through a life changing, devastating event (Divorce). On the bright side, I could report a 125 pound weight loss in a single day!! Bad joke, I know. I was left by my wife on May 9th, and after many thought sessions, and therapy with an expensive “shrink”, I came to the conclusion that shame and embarrassment about my weight, and how I felt about myself(HATE) lead a great deal to my marriage ending. No $h!t...You don't say. :banghead: To cope with this “loss”, I could turn to alcohol for comfort, party it up, and become a glutton for anything that makes me feel good, but due to my three reasons for everything…my two sons and daughter, I am changing my life for the better! I’m sick and tired of feeling tired, fat, and unconfident!!! I’m tired of loathing myself!! I’m here to make it happen, I’m here to change my lifestyle and become the “me” that I know I am whether or not anyone else sees or believes I have it in me to change or not! I want to love MYSELF and be happy with who I am, how I look and how I feel.

Well, here we go…

GOALS
-- How much weight do you want to lose?
100 pounds… I guess? I want to lose my gut, keep/gain muscle, and look and feel good. Weight is just a number to me, but it helps quantify results
-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
10 months
-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Eat 6 small/nutritious meals per day, Weight lift (3 times per week, alternating upper and lower body), and 45-60 min. cardio (3-5 times per week)
-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
Friends, family, and hopefully, this on-line community
-- How realistic is your goal?
Fairly, I am sure…Hoping someone here can tell me for certain.
-- When will you start?
September 22nd 2008 (Taking time to plan and set things up so that failure is not an option)

GENERAL
1. What is your current age, height, weight, waist size? 32, 5’-10”, 285#s, 44”
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 185?
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 230
4. Why do you want to lose weight? To regain personal confidence and energy, be who I am. This “current” me, is NOT me!
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? Raising my kids. I want to be the example!!! To be living life instead of just existing!
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Self pity and gluttony! :nopity:
7. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? Yes, plan to do that here
8. What are your three favorite foods? Chicken, Broccoli, Salmon, Brussel Sprouts…yeah right… Pizza, Tacos, Chicken Wings
9. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? Home/YMCA/Ice arena
10. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? My Kids, my happiness, my future… I truly believe if I take care of this issue, I can take care of any thing in my life. I never really set goals and worked at achieving them except for at the office. I know I can’t keep breaking self promises; it is having a very bad effect on me! To play, and be good at, the sports I played and excelled at in the past.
11. Do you have rewards for certain goals? Me… I’m going to Disney World... Seriously, I want to take my kids to D.W. when I break the 200 mark.

Before and after pics to come… I really want good results before posting I guess. Any thoughts about that from anyone, if anyone is actually reading this? I have to get through next week (court and what not), then I'm 100% committed to this!!

Comments and advice are definately welcome!! And will be appreciated.

I see you've decided to start a diary...I mean JOURNAL(more manly, right? :D). I definately think your goal is attainable, you just have to be willing to really commit to eating better and working out. And there are loads of people on here that are more than willing to give tips and support. it's a fun group. :D
Best of luck!!!

Abundance of Happiness is in your LIFE NOW!!!!

I am TRULY happy for the acknowledgment and the steps you are taking in your life!!!! I KNOW you can and will achieve your GOALS!!! You started....now DON'T quit!!!! ;) We got this!!!

Hi!
10 pounds in 1 month for 10 months straight isn't so realistic in my humble opinion--that's about a 1,166 calorie deficit every day for 10 months, and while it probably can be done, you might have your bad days. I don't wanna be a downer, but seriously I have been on this forum long enough to notice the intricacies of different people's weight loss. The standard is 1-2 pounds a week, or 4-8 pounds a month, and THAT can be easy at first, but the last 5 to 20 pounds are a BITCH, usually....

HOWEVER you obviously are ready to start your journey, and it'll be great and it'll be discouraging at times. Stay positive (like Alta, :D) and don't give up. Visualize your goals and don't look at obstacles as road blocks, just maybe as bad weather conditions ;)

Help is here :beating:

Pshhhhh! Curvie you don't know! I've been dropin 10-12 a month pretty much. :D

The main thing though JZ... no matter how long it takes, as long as you make that change for life, those pounds will never come back. So if its 10months or 20months... either way you've lost the weight and you're livin healthy! I've been able to keep up with most of my goals along the way, but even when a month comes where I don't meet them. It's just more motivation for me to watch my diet and work harder!

JZ,
Is a 100 lbs in 10 months possible? Absolutely and I beleive you will do it. Just stay focused and do the right things and it will be here before you know it.
Always remember what motivated you to start this, and i dont mean the ex-wife. I mean the kids. They will be thanking you for all the extra things you will be able to do.

Keep us up to date on you progress.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Mac on this one (even though that goes against everything I believe in... j/k Shaun!). :iagree:
Guys just have it easier than us when it comes to the weight loss... Mac has lost like 28 pounds in the time I've lost 10... :banghead: I think JZ could set a goal of 10 pounds a month and see what happens. Like Mac said, "sometimes he'll reach his goal and sometimes he won't but he'll be getting healthier every step of the way...

When I grow up I wanna be like Mac. ;)

We are in the same boat!

JZ-Just coming by to show you the same love you showed me:)

Keep focused; forget about the people in your past, there is a reason they didn't make it to your future...:iamwithstupid:

And that future is BRIGHT:hurray: watch your intake, workout and you will achieve results. Any goal is attainable if you want it bad enough and work your program...We are all here rooting for you, especially me!

Yes I have. I think it will be a very good tool for motivation, accountability, and support. I am 100% commited as of 9/22!! Thanks.

Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to see results like yours. A day at a time is good advise... that's how every battle is won.

Thanks for your input. I won't let slow progress or heaven forbid, gains, set me back. I appreciate anyone sharing their experiences and knowledge with me, for I am a newbie! That's why I'm on here after all. I guess I'm aiming high to challenge myself to do more, to get out of my comfort zone and really stick with this LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I want to set smaller, challenging yet attainable goals along the way to shoot for...any suggestions? :)

Again man, thanks. Preaching the LIFESTYLE CHANGE aspect of total health and nutrition is how I need to hear it. I'll still break down my goals into smaller steps to really judge how I'm progressing, but will try not to get hung up if I miss the mark.

Matt, Thanks. I'm going to. My three kids are pretty much my reason for everything. I want to set the example. "If a child hears you scream something, they will do it for a while...If they see you do something, they will probably do it for life" - Dobson I believe? Also, I'm doing this for me. I've wanted to change for at least 6 years, but could never make the time...I'm making the time now! Thanks for the good luck.

Thanks Paula...Hope your right about the whole guys lose easier thing...This is exactly how I'm looking at the whole thing...as a healthy new life. Again, thanks for reading this :D

Thanks. I am focused, the past is nearly behind me, and the future sure is bright. I want it bad and will work hard to attain it. I'm rooting for you as well. Come Sept. 22nd, there is no turning back, just learning from the past, and moving forward!

It's funny that you say that, because I heard somewhere that an individual will do 10% of what you do right & 90% of what you do wrong!...don't know how accurate that is....just thought it was interesting when I heard it!.....especially when applied to children!
