just starting out

I want to lose some weight and tone my body.
I am 20 years old, 6 foot at 210lbs, size 34/36.

For the past couple of days I have been running on my elliptical trainer for 45 minutes a day and doing 50 situps and 20 pushups. I also have cut out junk food (soda, candy) and rarely drink beer anymore.

I have started to eat approximately 2 oranges, 1 apple, 1 banana and carrots every day.

I always ate healthy but i used to snack a lot, so now I have stopped that, or I subsitute it with a fruit..

Is the exercise (which i do every day) sufficient? How about my diet? And how long do you think until I see results? I would like to achieve this before spring if possible, I really am not that fat, just a little chubby (love handles, the works ha ha)
Should I do HIIT instead of the 45 minute jog?

Any other tips would be highly useful, it is about time that I tone up.
I appreciate all the help guys!!

get rid of the "occasional" aka daily beer for starter.

Yes try to do HIITs. I know in the end, calorie burnt is calorie burnt but lots of studies show that fat burning is more when a person crank it up. Try doing HITT's every 3rd time you do cardio. Beside that, you are doing great. Take some picture and compare again one month later, you will be surpise. You may not notice the daily change as you see yourself everyday.

every third time? sounds great. thanks a lot, my friend (who is pretty cut) said id see results in a month also, I just wanted to check here.

any other tips?

cheers

Oh look into what diet you should be on to lose weight. Do not quote me on this but you actually have to consume more fat on a weight lost diet. Not the bad fat but healthy ones.

Almonds + brocolii are your best friends.
Anything fast absorbing is bad: ie candy or white bread or any white carbs.

Weight training, I would add some type of weight training into your routine. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn (and plus you look better). I have lost about 60 pounds and here is my best tips. I would try to make half of your plate at every meal fruits or veggies. I usually aim for half veggies at lunch and dinner and throw in a fruit at breakfast and one in for a snack. I would also try to include a source of protein in every meal as well. Hope that helps.
