Just a little bit more to go ...

Hey Kara!
I don't think I've actually commented on your journal before...
I just briefly "caught up" (ie. clicked on random pages and skimmed random bits)
I'm really impressed with your photos! That's such an awesome change ^_^

That must be a little annoying, and also sort of funny that people ask your advice and then do whatever they were going to do anyways... nobody wants to hear that there -isn't- a magical "diet" they can follow for a few weeks and lose all the weight they want and then instantly eat whatever they want again without gaining it back!

Anyways, I'll keep randomly checking your journal... thanks for all the good advice!
Oh, and I sent my friend the link to your food blog ^.^;

Back down to 168.6. I knew it was fluid and salt, but it's still hard to see the numbers on the scale go up.

:( It is really hard to see the number go up. I experienced that just yesterday, grrr.. haha but gotta use that as motivation to go out and exercise as well as watching what I eat!

By the way, all quiet on the western front -- one of my favorite books. Ohhh yes. :)

meilinrei - Hey! Thanks for visiting and for the kind words about my photos and blog! :) I'm dying to get back into blogging, but I'm waiting on my new camera equipment (soon, I hope). It's hard to blog w/out photos.

zephyr - Thanks for stopping by. :) I love historical novels of any type, but Western Front is one of my favorites, too.

Holding steady at 167. I don't know why it's been so hard for me to get back into the swing of things. I know how to do this and I know what needs to be done, but a year+ of maintaining has just sort of stuck. Part of it is having my housemate around more - he doesn't eat well and I use having him around as an excuse to pad my diet more than I should. I know better.

However, I'm back to working out daily at my old intensity (and boy can I feel it) and it feels GOOD.

On the personal front, I haven't heard from my lawyer all week, and I'm looking at that along the lines of no-news-is-good-news. As long as it's quiet, I'm happy.

The weather here is gorgeous today and I think after work I'm going to go for a run down by the river. It's been a loooong time since I've been running outside (too much rain) and I think it'll be a nice change of pace.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

I can imagine how one might get stuck in maintenance mode, after a long time at it. Changing gears into weight loss mode would absolutely require some serious adjustment. Even knowing exactly how to go about it doesn't make it easy.
You'll figure it out, I'm sure.

That run sounds nice. Wish I could go do that right now. It was -4 this morning, and now we are up to a pretty nice +5. Going to turn cold and rainy/snowy later today and for the next while. Sigh. So much for summer.

Hey y'all. So it's Monday and I am feeling pretty darned good today. Breakfast and lunch are right on track. I hit the gym with a friend at lunch and did 30 mins of solid cardio intervals. I'm feeling good. I plan to go back after work and put in about 15-20 mins of weight work before I go home.

As I've mentioned here before - I know what I need to be doing, but I've let myself slack off and it's sabotaging my loss. As of this morning, I'm still steady at 167 - so I"m maintaining just fine and I know my diet is healthy, it's just not geared towards loss.

So I'm going to approach this a bit differently this week and see if it helps.

I have one single goal this week: to eat according to plan all week (M-F). Here's what I eat when I'm on plan:

Breakfast: greek yogurt, fruit
Snack: apple and string cheese
Lunch: tuna or chicken salad on a slice of bread, carrots, pickles
Snack: boiled egg and low-sodium V8
Post-workout: Protein powder
Dinner: lean protein and veg

That is plenty to keep me filled up. It works out to right around 1500 calories and 120g of protein.

So that's the goal and I'm stating it here. This week I will eat my plan and not let myself make excuses or fill in with extras. Whatever the scale does at this point is irrelevant: the plan is about the food. Period.

I know I'm capable of doing this - I just need to get my ass in gear and do it.

I found out that planning my meals ahead of time really, really helps me. I am glad you are looking back on what you're doing and making changes accordingly. You can do this! I hope this week will go great for you!

Hi Kara,
You and I seem to be in a similar situation. I have maintained my WW goal for years. However, this year it has started to slip away. I can not take off much more ballast without simply weighing in wearing my birthday suit. That is why I started to keep a diary here for support.

I could blame my wife who does all the cooking and shopping and has more of a weight problem than me that she refuses to address. However, like you I know what needs to be done and I have no excuse for eating things I should not eat and not exercising enough. I find having a good support system for what ever you wish to accomplish in life is very important. I hope your support system is a good one and I wish you well.

Hey everyone! I haven't updated here in a while - been crazy busy with keeping up with the rest of the forums and just stuff in general.

I'm working on a whole bunch of projects, plus have massive amounts of family coming into town for the holidays (12 extra adults going to be around) and so I'm trying to get organized before they all get here.

I've also been writing short articles for a new blog I've started: - I'm starting a series on "surviving the holidays" plus I'm going to take some of the stuff I've written for other forums and post it as well.

My weight loss is going ok. I'm focusing on maintaining through the holidays, although if I lose a few extra lb, I won't be unhappy! :D

I'm also working my way through the StrongLifts 5x5 program and doing the MPH challenge on my blog as well. Just keeping up with the exercise through the rest of the year is one of my big goals.

That's about it .. hope everyone else is having a good day/week/month so far! :)

Hey Kara! i will have to check out that blog you have going on... i think Cerella posted something on my facebook about it... hmmmmm

didnt know what it was though so i ignored it for the most part.

Maintaining throught he holidays sounds like a safe bet... better than trying to be a "tightass" about the diet and then caving in and eating 4 pies in a sitting :)

Well, just wanted to stop and say hello :)

Good luck surviving the holidays. Fortunately, I'm in Canada and we already had thanksgiving - so I only have to worry about Christmas!!!!! (Followed very quickly by New Years and then my Birthday!) Maybe your 'surviving the holidays' tips will come in handy.

Hey Billy - yeah, in order I have:
Thanksgiving (Nov)
Christmas (Dec)
New Years (Jan 1)
Birthday (Jan 28)

PLus all the family in town means eating and get togethers. :)

Marie - I'm working on articles now .. hoping to get more up! :)

That blog is certainly well worth checking out. I always seem to be having a look to see what is there these days.

Everyone should class it as having a strong recommendation from me...

I always thought that your food blog was good - but it is brilliant.

Admit it! - the camera business is all a good excuse because you love throwing all your energy into the weight control blog!

Hey Kara, I feel your pain on the housemate situation. It's not so much that my roomie doesn't eat well - it's more like he is (now) a skinny little thing and can afford to eat a little bit more indulgently as a vegetarian than I can (we both follow a vegetarian/vegan diet).

So where I need carrot sticks to stay on track, he can eat Doritos without having to worry about it. (Whereas I really need a restraining order against Doritos.)

Good luck on the holiday survival thing! I will be in that boat with ya soon enough!!!!

Hello Karacooks, ;)

I have been away for a couple of weeks, due to internet loss. But I am BACK ready to stir up some more SHIAT!! lol *jokes*

Anyways, I know I've only been here once before, I just wanted to share with you that I tried your baked Acorn Squash, and had it with honey & ginger & I think that's it. I did leave the skin on, but it definitely wasn't like the *other* recipe I had thought it was. (with the skin on that is) the rest was PRETTY DELICIOUS!!! Thanks :iagree: I have another meal planned with just the spices too, coming up here.

I also bought a couple of cans of Pumpkin, and added some to my steel cut oats in the morning, I didn't quite take to it. Maybe it's because I didn't add sweetener. errr cause I poured in some unsweetened almond milk. LOL :puke:

BUT I really LOVE the Pumpkin! I've been eating it plain with cinnamon. Do you have any baked Pumpkin Recipes I could try? Something simple, cooking skills are getting better here. :D

I am going to search what is added to pumpkin as the pie.

Is it true that you (in general) use the Pumpkin or Pumpkin rind for the Pumpkin Pie Pastry?

Later. :seeya:

Hi Kara,
How are you doing? I have not seen a post in you diary for some time. You do not have a ticker posted, do you not feel that they are helpful. I think it has helped keep me focused on maintaining my personal goal.
