Journey to the Center of the Flab

I recently hit a plateau and started eating crap again. And I decided this has to stop NOW. I don't even know why the hell I eat that stuff... I have almost no self control. Looking back I realize how not worth it eating crap is and then I feel bad. I am really determined to lose weight and so far writing down what I eat has been good enough, but now its not. Now I need the internet to know what I eat and I need to have the knowledge that every little bite I eat is going to posted on here and I will have to deal with the frustration of typing it out and shamefully pressing the Submit button. So yeah, thats my motivation for writing this diary.

Diary, Day One:

I have lost 35 pounds so far, going from 270 to 235. This took about 4 months. One of my mini-goals is 225, and I'm in sight of it! Alright, here's the main part; what I ate today. I admit I ate a little bit of crap, but nothing compared to yesterday and the day before.

Breakfast: fiber one original cereal, 2% milk

Lunch: soy burger, salad

Snack: 1/3 slice homemade fudge cake, 1/2 tablespoon chocolate frosting (my weakness)

Dinner: 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 chicken hotdogs

Exercise: 2 hours swimming, leisurely

I messed up today with the cake and frosting. I need to not do that.

Diary, Day 2:

I'm pretty proud of myself today. I'm going to try to eat less carbs but we didn't go shopping for a while so I'm stuck with the food we have :(

Breakfast: fiber one, milk

Lunch: whole wheat spaghetti, cottage cheese

Dinner: hollowed out whole wheat bagel, cottage cheese

Snacks: watermelon, apple

I didn't exercise today... I'm getting lazy.

Diary, Day 3:

We're going shopping tonight, yay!

Breakfast: The milk was spoiled, so there went my Fiber One... 1/2 plain bagel, hollowed out, cottage cheese, banana nut breakfast muffin

Lunch: 2 sunny side up eggs, a chicken frankfurter

Dinner: veggie burger, 2 slices whole wheat bread

Snacks: 2 cups air popped popcorn

Exercise: none :( I went to the foot doctor to get my arches fitted. So soon I'll be able to exercise more. I sprained my ankle and it still hurts...

Hi girlonamission and welcome to the board! A fair few of us have been (or are!) in your situatin - lost a really good amount of weight then hit a bit of a mental block. I lost nearly 60lbs, then put on 30 of them again and am now back on the straight and narrow!!

Sounds like you know where you are going wrong on the food front with a bit too much rubbish in there - I do the same! Treats are ok, in small amounts, every now and again.... Have you thought about whether you are actually eating enough though (of the good stuff?) 2 eggs and a hot dog or two doesn't sound like a filling dinner! You might feel less inclined towards the bad stuff if you filled up with some good healthy carbs (brown rice etc...) and some vegetables? I'm constantly amazed when I go to enter my calories into fitday after meals, just how calorie-low veggies are = how much I can eat of the ones I enjoy!

Anyhows, good luck and hope to hear how you are getting on!

I know I don't eat enough fruits and veggies. I am slowly but surely trying to sneak them into my snacking routine. I started not eating any carbs for snacks, so hopefully that will work. I also am planning to make a huge salad and just snack on that throughout the week (I love salad).

Looks like you're off to a good start! Veggies are great. I feel like they have really helped me lose weight. I try to snack on them when I feel hungry. It's a bit tough to be hungry and grab a handful of raw veggies sometimes, but if I eat a cup or so for a snack, I usually end up feeling quite satisfied afterward. I always try to remember, "once I eat these veggies, I will feel full and those cookies won't look so appetizing". And it works pretty well! Sometimes I slip up and will grab some bad treats, but it happens. Just don't let those little bumps get you down and make you give up!

I sprained my ankle as well... about 2 1/2 months ago. How did you hurt yours, if I may ask? I did mine in pretty good. I couldn't walk for a week and I still can't run or jump and going down stairs is still a bit painful. I've felt an improvement, but I'm considering going to physical therapy or getting and MRI or something. I got x-rays right after it happened, and there weren't any fractures, but I'm worried it may have been a bit more serious than I originally thought, so I want to make sure I get it fully healed. It's such a common injury, but it's still really scary how long it takes to heal, coupled with the fact that you are more susceptible to re-injuring it. I hope you're doing better and you can exercise soon! I better follow your lead and get back to the doctors!

Welcome, btw!

I was doing a pull up in gym class and fell on my ankle. Its been close to 6 months and I still can't quite walk normally. When I first sprained it, I had to crawl around (it was so embarrassing). I'm in physical therapy, and it's helped me so far. I think you should definitely try it! I am exercising when I have the chance. I do stuff like the elliptical and swimming which don't really require the use of my ankle moving.

Looks like you're doing great girlonamission!

Le-Squish & girlonamission--I sprained my ankle horribly about 4 years ago (the doctor said it would have healed better if it had been broken). My ankle as never been the same, but have never done physical therapy--so I think that's a great step. Also what helped me was Horse tape. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's the stuff that they put around horse's ankles. It works so much better than an ace bandage. You can get it nice and tight, works in the water (i'm a water spots fanatic) and you can match it to workout outfits. It's pretty cheap and I've found you can get it at tons of places, including: animal stores, ranch & farm, or just only--it's really reasonably priced. I wrapped my ankle for probably a full year when I did physical activities. I just now have stopped taking some with me while travel, you never know when you might twist it just enough to hurt and if you have the horse tape with you, you can wrap your ankle really fast to give it the support it needs.

Anyways, best of luck and hope to keep seeing you around!!

Hmmm I never heard of using horse tape before... I'm going to have to check that out.

Breakfast: fiber one, milk

Lunch: small bowl of whole wheat spaghetti, cottage cheese, small bowl of corn flakes, milk

Dinner: whole wheat spaghetti, cottage cheese

Snacks: 3 thin whole wheat rice cakes, cottage cheese, greenbeans, 1/2 cup dry corn flakes

Exercise: 1 hour at the gym doing elliptical, rowing machine, bike, various weight exercises for legs and arms

Apparently we only went shopping for milk and bread and bananas. So I'm stuck with the same 3 foods we have in the house... which is why I had spaghetti for lunch and dinner.

Looks like you're doing great so far, how is whole weat spagetti? is there much of a difference than real spagetti? and do you put hamburger meat in it? I've been real curious of this for a while because I love spagetti, I would love your opinions on it and maybe even how you prepare it or what you put in it.

I spranged Both of my ankles at the same time on a trampoline when I was like 16, I'm 24 now and I STILL have problems with one of em, and I've spranged that same one about twice since then, it seams they are so weak now, I can't do jumping jacks or any kind of jumping at all and if it twists the slightest bit it is real pain. So I feel for you on that situation but physical therapy might help alot I didn't do any maybe I should have.

Great job on the 35 pounds in 4 months that's really awsome! I hope you hit your mini goal soon and I'm sure you will!

Thanks! I love whole wheat food because my mother raised us on it. White bread and pasta were like treats to us. I don't know about other people, but I prefer the whole wheat spaghetti. Its more filling and has a richer taste. I eat it plain with cottage cheese and it tastes really good. To add some more flavor, put a touch of olive oil and some salt and its amazing.

I'm really disappointed in myself today... That being said, here goes.

Lunch: whole wheat mini pizza

Dinner: grilled rueben pastrami sandwich on whole wheat bread with swiss cheese

Snacks: none

Exercise: none

Today was a bad day. I ate too much crap and zero fruits or veggies. And I didn't exercise at all. :(

Don't feel down on yourself, that food doesn't sound bad at all to me but then again everyone is different, still you shoul'dt feel bad, just get back on track tomorrow there is only one reason you should feel bad and that's if you decide to just quit and give up, as long as you keep going you should be proud of yourself everyday

Keep it up I know you can do it!!

Thanks Jessica, that really means a lot. The reason I said crap is because I was trying to stay away from carbs for a while and that kind of went out the window today... I do plan on sticking to my new, healthy lifestyle. I've already seen a lot of results, so that keeps me motivated.

I've seen your pictures, the results are amazing! and you are looking so great! Keep up the good work, your pictures inspire me

Blah. Even worse day today... school starts tomorrow so hopefully taking healthy snacks will help with eating crap. If I pack stuff when I'm not hungry, I'll have no choice but to eat the healthy stuff earlier me sent for snack.
