Journey, Not A Destination

"Time waits for no man. Time is the raw material, the cellular matter that comprises our lives. As the present is left in our wake, slowly disintegrating into a trail of moments and memories, evaporating into the vast nothingness that is the past, like the tail of a comet behind us, so too does the future sprint towards our face at a lightning bolt's pace. Pause for a second and contemplate your life 10 years ago or 10 months ago. Where you were… Who you were. Ponder how vivid those memories are. How it all seems like yesterday. How forever didn't once seem so long and how tomorrow once appeared to be a lifetime away. How so much has transpired yet it seems like nothing happened. How so often you felt trapped, time froze and one day melted in the monotonous next, yet it all went by in the blink of an eye. Waste not another second, not another opportunity… Dream not of a better tomorrow. Embrace the now, no matter how grim or challenging. Focus on today and all that it promises from the grimmest and most challenging to that which brings endless bliss and joy. This day that has finally arrived will soon be gone forever as will the future you've so long envisioned. Like these fleeting moments, you too will soon pass away. If it all ended now, what would your life be worth? What will your contribution have been? If it were all over in this very instant, how would you be remembered? Time will tell."

Gearing up for a tough upper body day today. I'm feeling great though. I need to focus on shoulder mobility a bit. I can always tell when things are tightening up... my hands are closer to the fronts of my thighs than they are the sides when my arms are hanging.

I'll be doing a lot of shoulder, chest and lat flexility work tonight as well as some scapula mobility work such as wall slides, YTLWs, and scap pushups.

Good that you're feeling great!

I don't know where you get the energy :biggrinjester:. Even when I have my eating, my exercise and my sleep all in check I still never have energy! I think it must have something to do with your personality!

I'm not sure where it comes from. I suppose it's my perception and outlook.

It's a fine balance of fitting in my life the way I want it and maintaining happiness of myself and loved ones in the time I've been granted... all while realizing it could all be over tomorrow.

So I live today how I'd want to be remembered for eternity.

"Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!"

That's what you reminded me of just then. ;)

I want that posted up somewhere in my house though: Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Pretty good mantra.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. My own father got a slap from mortality recently when one of his close friends (same age) died a gruesome, lingering death from lung cancer. He ended up having a stroke as well, because it had spread to his brain.

I will keep him in my thoughts.

Imagine where you will be, and it will be so.

That's typically enough for me to take the action required to get to where I want to be. But I'm an easy sell. I have some clients who are perpetual dreamers. They're all about "seeing" the future but they rarely act.

That's a disconnect of enormous proportions. It's like having a sports car but no gas.

Mav, you might be interested in a I made.

Thanks for the well wishes. My uncle has regained a ton of mobility... so much so that he's walking without a walker or cane now and he'll be leaving the hospital next week.

It's great news that your uncle has regained that amount of mobility relatively quickly. It must be so frightening wondering whether that will happen or not. Was he in good shape before the stroke?

"the first step of the solution to becoming more aware of your thoughts" - not that I have my own solution really, but I totally agree with this one - I've found it to be critical for myself.

Ya, that's the crazy thing. Not that it happened, b/c even though he was "healthy" he made poor choices in terms of drinking and smoking. But crazy b/c he was extremely active and now that's in real jeopardy. Life if truly fragile.

Heya Steve, catching up here - Ive been doing bare minumim on most websites atm as work has taken over (as it does). Probably not needing the forum like maybe i did a couple of years ago, just hanging around feeling obligated ya know :D

WOW your own Gym! good job! I thought you were too broke? Thats gonna be some serious commitment, though you have the websites all sussed out now which is great!

Thanks for the help ya gave me.
:)
I have had a great Week 1 and weigh-in in the morning.

I feel lighter, have more energy and pep and just feel better overall.

Don't you wish you could bottle this and sell it?
Or even just bottle it so you can remember not to give up on rough days bc when you do good it feels so great!

The Tone & Sweat/Circuit Training is going well followed by the Cardio the next day.
I'm keeping that routine going and hope to add walking to the mix if our weather would ever chill! <grrrr>

Living in Tornado Alley stinks, especially in May. :ack2:

SS this became so long in yer journal..

Just meant to say thanks! :sifone: LOL

Three trainers (including me) pitched in so it wasn't as costly as you'd think.

Plus, it's not a full blown gym. It's a training studio.

Thanks Liz!

Not a problem at all, so glad to hear you're doing well. I think planning now for ways to help implant the empowering feelings you have now into your life when things aren't going as good is critical.

Great workout yesterday...

Overhead BB Press - 1x5, 1x3, 1x5
Weighted Dips - 3x10
DB Press - 2x10
Chest Supported Rows - 3x12
CG Lat Pulldowns - 2x12
Tris & Bis

What are you current goals? Bulking, cutting?

Two questions:
Why BB instead of DBs? Advantages of each?

What does CG mean? Actually, just thought, close grip? What is the difference between close and a wider grip?

Thanks,

Matt

Strength... I'm not concerned with physique to a point right now where I'm worried about cutting or bulking. I'm focusing on busting ass and getting stronger and more athletic.

The physique will follow suit.

Two questions:

My core exercises generally always use BBs. In this case, overhead pressing was my core movement. Everything else was supplemental.

In reality though, my training adapts with my body and I always use a mixture of BB and DB training. There are pros and cons to both, so why use one solely at the expense of the other?

You're right with close grip.

Just a different stimulus than my last month of training. Last month I did wide grip pullups.

It's really, really hard to deduce anything from a single day's worth of my training without seeing and understanding the big picture, unfortunately.

Oh of course having 3 trainers chipping in also brings in 3 times the clients, and being elitists always try and outdo each other rather than get bored of it :D:D

workout last night...

Deadlifts - 1x5, 1x3, 1x10
Assisted GHRs - 3x10
Leg Press - 4x13, 1x22

Fried.

Hey Steve,

I'm sure you are crazy busy but if you have some spare time there is a cool documentary about a 23yo kid from colorado that climbs mount everest on itunes. It's the unabridged edition on "The Rest of Everest" and it follows this kid from the US all the way to Everest. It's a little long but it's cool to see the behind scenes stuff you wouldn't see in a movie.

Just thought you would be interested.

Matt

Sweet Matt... thanks for the suggestion. I will certainly look into it. I love watching that stuff!

So I've been feeling under the weather since Thursday... I had the flu and bronchitis. I'm on meds and on the mend... so that's a good thing.

It didn't help I ran in a 5k for breast cancer research on Sunday. I haven't been running at all and being sick, I wasn't terribly upset with my time of 27:03.

Regardless, time was really important.

This week I'm staying out of the gym... focusing on recovery and mobility work.

Hope everyone is well!

feel better!

ive been enjoying ur journal, so hope u recover soon! ;)
