Journey, Not A Destination

Thanks very much!

I think I'm going to work on perfecting my overhead squat. It's an exercise that really magnifies weaknesses and imbalances in the body.

Right now my form is really 'off' with it for various reasons.

overhead squats are super scary to watch... do you choose to do those over regular squats for stabilization?

No, I'm a huge fan of regular squats. But I'll throw in OH Squats here and there for various reasons. One might be to deload from regular squatting. Regular squats involve heavy weight and pushing more and more weight week after week, especially once your strength levels reach a certain level, is counterproductive.

With that in mind, deloading with a similar exercise that uses less weight such as OH Squats, Front Squats or even lighter Back Squats is called for.

Or, as mentioned above, the OH squat requires a lot of mobility. Having someone perform one is a great way to dissect muscle balance and joint health/mechanics. So in a big way, it can be used as a diagnostic tool.

Just got done with a yummy stack/meal

Lemonade protein powder mixed with water
1 serving almonds
1 serving carrots
1 serving snow peas
1 apple

Amazing how satiated that leaves you.

So I'm a little bummed... I ended up injuring a tendon in my foot during the 5k I ran on Sunday. It has progressively gotten more painful. I finally went and had an x-ray done today to rule out any bone damange. The doc concluded that I definitely did something to my one tendon. Without MRI, it's hard to say how much.

For now, I'm simply going to rest and ice it. If it lasts more than a few days with no improvement, I'll schedule an MRI.

I'm sorry to hear about your foot, it must be difficult for such an active guy. Hopefully things will get under control soon and you'll get back on your feet.:beerchug:

bugger about the foot. I had issues when running with things like that, its extremely frustrating not being able to do too much, but far worse if you do and then have to stay off it for ages!

Get well soon! :D

Thanks guys...

Foot is still pretty banged up. It has improved though, so I'll take it. I'm fortunate and I'm not. I had planned an off week from weight training this week, so the injury couldn't have come at a better time.

That said, I wanted to use this week to really work on ankle mobility and that's not possible right now.

Instead, I've been really focusing on upper body re/prehab stuff. Feels good, too.

This weekend I was supposed to do an 18 mile hike but that's out of the question at this point unless I miraculously recover between now and tomorrow afternoon.

I'll most likely spend my weekend doing some sedentary things I've been putting off. Maybe some fishing too.

Haha, not that I wouldn't enjoy that, but where I'm fishing if there was a fish that big it would be sticking out of the water.

The stream at my house is pretty small.

:p

Thanks guys. The foot, for the first time since two Sundays ago, is feeling somewhat better. That, or I'm getting used to the pain, lol. I was going to make a doc appt. today if it still bothered me. That deadline has come and gone though... the fact that it seems to be improving a bit has led me to push that off for a day or two.

I trained upper body tonight which went something like:

Overhead BB Press - 2x5, 1x7
Weighted Dips - 3x10
DB Bench - 2x10
CG Cable Pulldown - 3x12
CG Cable Row - 2x12
Triceps and Biceps

Then tonight I did a ton of mobility/prehab work which included:

Thoracic extensions over a foam roller
Ankle mobility drills
Chest, lat, and bicep wall stretches
YTLWs
Wall slides
Pushup Plus

Feeling good.

No such luck... it's still bothering me the same today. I'll be calling the doc in a bit. At least it doesn't hurt as bad as when it first happened.

On a good note, my upper body is feeling amazing from the prehabilitative stuff I did last night. It's amazing the difference that stuff has on how your body feels.
