Journey, Not A Destination

Messing with eye injuries isn't fun, which you obviously know Stacy. Not sure why your calf would be hurting... I'd rest it before you push it again.

Last night was a boring lower body workout that included leg extensions, GHRs and some single leg work. Couldn't do much since I didn't want to test the foot.

I head to the docs in a few moments, hopefully he'll have some good things to say.

First, it's not over RMR that you need to facilitate muscle growth. It's over your maintenance. RMR (or BMR) is not maintenance.

I guess my percieved definition of RMR was wrong, that's what I thought it was.

The secret to muscle growth is finding that sweet spot, calorically speaking, where you're eating just enough to facilitate growth, yet not so much that you're packing away a lot of fat. You can't fast forward muscle growth by eating more and more like some think.

Gotcha

Does that answer your question?

yes it does, trial and error would seem to be the order of the day.

Congrats on reaching a stage where you're ready to focus on growth!

Thankyou very much, I'm very excited about it.

P.S. Why did you give up being a female body sculpter?!?! :)

Nope, like I said BMR/RMR is the calories your body needs at absolute rest.

Maintenance = BMR + TEA + TEF

TEA = Thermic Effect of Activity = Exercise and all other non-sedentary stuff

TEF = Thermic Effect of Food = The rise in metabolism required to breakdown and utilize the foods we eat.

yes it does, trial and error would seem to be the order of the day.

As is most often the case when it comes to losing or gaining weight. Be sure to manage your expectations... gaining muscle is a SLOW process!

When the forum decided I'm too "mean" and banned me, lol.

Ok, thanks Steve. :)

It is feeling better today though. I'm not limping.

I guess I was just super sore. Very strange it was in one leg though?!
*shrugs shoulders*

lol

I was very careful with it yesterday and kept it elevated.

I also did my best to sleep stretched out. Hahahaha!
I have always slept my left leg inward and my right out..(like a #4)
:D
Drives my hubby crazy..
I'm very odd I guess..

:p

Have A Great Day!

I just came here to comment on the "Super Nice & Caring Mod".
It made me laugh, honestly.

You're a nice guy, but you like to give out the tough information people love to ignore. :gnorsi: That's what makes you awesome.:p When I first joined the forum on my secret account a few years back I started out trying to lose weight eating 1200-1300 calories a day. It wasn't until I joined again last March that anyone (you and Mal) bothered to help me get off of that "1200 mentality".

Given I still struggle with my calorie intake, but I've lost more weight than I ever would have been able to had I stayed on such an extreme (and rather unhealthy) diet plan.

I wonder when that magical 1200 number became the idol of society.

Glad to hear the calf is feeling better... you probably strained it just a bit. No biggy!

Well thanks very much. I'm not good at padding my advice. At least not on forums. It's all about the information from my perspective, which admittedly can turn some people off.

The fact of the matter though is when I was banned recently, there was no good justification... and a few people around here were outright lying about me or things I've done. I don't care... I actually feel bad for those who get so worked up over stuff like that.

Be that as it may, my "pesona" on here definitely leads to people loving me or hating me and I really have been trying to find a better middle ground... but I'll never do so at the expense of a) the integrity of information and/or b) not being true to myself.

Some guru trying to make a quick buck.

I can honestly say I'd rather have one person love me than 50 people liking me.:sifone:

All's well that ends well.

Hey Steve,
I read Boyle's article on tmuscle and determined more than likely it is my ankle mobility hindering my squats.

I took the overhead squat test and just like they said if it is remidied by the heals coming up that it is the ankle. NOw i can start working on that. I wouldnt be surprised if my hips need some work as well.

Thanks again for the advice. Enjoy the long weekend.

Matt

Hey RG... honestly, Kara took the words right out of my mouth. I can't offer you anything beyond that. She's given you very good advice... I hope you listen.

Steve,
Any differences between front squats and back squats? Are they the same? is one better than the other? Reason I ask is i tried front squats and they seem easier for me.

I did watch the Squat Rx video on front squats but would like to hear your thoughts as well.

Thanks,

Matt

Huge differences, really. It has to do with the biomechanics of the movements... lever arms and all that jazz... stuff we don't need to get into. But due to the different positioning of the bar in relation to the hips, knees and back... the body is stressed differently.

Primarily, the quads are emphasized over the hamstrings and there is less stress placed on the lower back.

Generally speaking... people aren't able to handle the same sort of loads with FS as they can with BS.

Thanks for asking! I've been meaning up update the journal but haven't gotten around to it. The foot feels much better. Annoyingly, it still hurts though. I'm less worried about it though, which is nice. The doc said he believes it's tendonitis... seems to be the go to diagnosis for anything these days, lol. But I'm happy since the way it was hurting I was fearing I'd need surgery!

Sounds like a good update to me! Any improvement is less cause for concern.

Hopefully it'll get its self all healed up and you can resume your daily life without pain :driving:

Thanks :)

Great upper body workout tonight!

Overhead BB Press 2x3, 1x6
Weighted Dips 3x10
DB Bench 2x10
CG Pulldowns 3x12
CG Cable Rows 2x12
French Press 2x15
DB Curl 1x15, 1x12

Feeling very strong.

Today will be my first lower body strength day since my foot injury... I'm anxious to see how it holds up. I'll toy around with some deadlifts, GHRs, and leg presses if all goes well.

I've really been working on ankle, shoulder and thoracic mobility and I feel loads better. Exercises include thoracic extensions over a foam roller, foam rolling the thoracic spine, wall chest and lat stretches, bicep stretches, quadruped hip circles, birddogs, fire hyrdrants, 90/90 stretches, etc.

I do it daily while watching the evening news.
