Journey, Not A Destination

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day - teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime

I thought it was "teach a man to fish and he'll sit around drinking beer all weekend"?

"Hiya" Steve! :waving: I had an diametrically opposed weekend from yours--but have a scratchy throat and am seeing if I can fight it off--hope you're having a good day :)

Sorry your Eagles lost yesterday. But hey, at least they're not 0-9 like a certain team...umm....that would be my Lions. :ack2: I'm really hoping they go 0-16 so they can blow another good draft pick. :biggrinjester:

Thanks Val! My throat is raw and I can't kick this cough... so damn annoying!

Ya know Kimberly, I'd almost prefer the Eagles get beat each game and suck. If a team sucks they such, and yea, that's frustrating but when a team is actually good, has the talent, yet can't pull out any sort of consistency... I think it's more frustrating!

Maybe it's just my biased poor attitude speaking but it really chaps my arse!

Oh, I'll chap your arse, honey. :reddevil:

Hey, I know all about the inconsistancy thing. That would be Michigan--well not this season b/c they suck in general, but in seasons past--like last year for example. They beat a pretty good Florida team (with a QB who won the Heisman) in their bowl game but lost their opener to App St.?? granted App St is a very good team--in Div 1-AA, though. Mich does this all the time. They lose to teams they should beat. I feel ya. :)

So last week I had the week off from exercise. I was just beginning to feel rundown, which is unfortunate considering I'm taking a week off after I move next week. I was hoping to last until the move and kill two birds with one stone; rest and get situated. Now I'll be taking rest when I don't really need it.

Such is life.

Training yesterday was good after the week off. It's amazing what planning can do in terms of programming and fatigue management.

I came in feeling much stronger than I had thought.

I could have pushed a lot more weight on these but this is what it looked like:

Decline BB Bench - 225 x 10, 6, 2 RP
Overhead Press Machine - 110 x 10, 4, 2 RP
Cable Pressdowns - 12 x 12, 8, 4 RP
Reverse Grip Pulldowns - 11 x 10, 6, 3 RP
Chest Supported Row Machine - 6P+50 x 4, 4P+50 x 10

RP = rest pause
P = plates

In other news, I finally started writing the book project I'd like to finish in this lifetime again. I've started and stopped now about a dozen times. I have a lot of things to express in my head but I'm better at being reactionary with my writing. For instance, I'm good (at least I think I am sometimes) at responding to someone on a message board or a client in the gym. I'm not so good at sitting down just to write. At least in my mind I'm not.

I'm very critical of a project such as this so who knows if I'll ever finish it.

I haven't worked on it for a number of months and last night was the first time I opened up the document. Things were flowing. Things have flowed before though and weeks or months later the document finds itself in my trash.

Good quote:

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Definitely an awesome quote!

Hey--sorry you were under the weather. I'm fighting a cold and winning, but my main ammo is sleep. I ran yesterday despite my scratchy throat and it didn't have a detrimental effect on my health. Good deal.

Nice to take it easy on the weights. I haven't lifted weights in weeks, but the Intermediate/Advanced Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga 4-5 times a week, for some reason, keeps my muscles busy and my body functionally strong, and balanced all over. I'll have someone take pictures of me soon to prove it. I didn't MEAN to quit lifting, I just didn't have time with all the Yoga, and then Belly dancing, running, and kickboxing. Oh right, and the Nighsteppin'. Dancing with a glostick for a few hours does wonders for your shoulders and range of movement ;)

CONGRATS ON RE-STARTING THE PROJECT!!!!!!!!

Fuck yeah, homeboy! Never give up! And I can see how you'd be better at reactionary writing, but remember something a wise old man told me once: "You are good at everything." It's a great mantra to keep in mind.

HUGS

Thanks Val! :)

Well some of the more extreme poses in yoga to require a bit of isometric strength. Unfortunately that doesn't carryover well to dynamic movements such as those in the gym. Training adaptations are very specific.... meaning what you do for exercise daily is what you'll be good at.

The further away from one training type you go, the less carryover there will be.

So like I said, there are some strength variants in yoga... but not too many to have a strong correlation to dynamic weight training.

Absolutely. Still, my brain remembers all the weight training moves so I could easily get back into it. There's a move that's sort of like one-legged tricep pushups in Yoga that really makes me sweat--bleh! :ack2: Really great for all parts of my body. I DO miss Barbell Squats and Deadlifts, though--will probably get to the weight room within the next week.

Well the important thing is you're doing what you enjoy. If you miss weight training, you simply have to make better balance is all. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Thanks, Steve--yup, time management and all ;) I was just preaching to Sam about that. Looks like I have an opportunity to live with Chris at his deceased grandma's beach shack in Santa Cruz harbor in a few months, rent free. T'would be nice, would take a lot of time off my commute and is very close to my gym, my Yoga studio (right in between, actually) and also even closer to the rock climbing gym if I wanted to get into that, too. We'll see.

Hmm, split 3 levels, kitchen between large living room and the bedroom, bedroom downstairs, two car garage, nice large porch, part of it covered...estimated 1.8 million due to its location! Chris inherited it. He needs to get out of his parents' house....their house is unhealthily cluttered and we both agree the Feng Shui is deadening. Depresses him, there is barely a path to walk on. Anyway, he and I really want to live together because I know I could help with his depression and we could cook a lot. He was a chef, and I know all sorts of healthy low GI dishes. The coolest thing is, even though he has no other real friends, he LOVES people and likes all my friends, so we were both talking about having cool ass parties over there. Not to mention the beach/harbor/meadow I do HIIT is literally right in front of the shack across the harbor.

That sounds amazingly cool and healthy for Chris. I hope it all works out. If I come out that way, I'm staying there!
