Journey, Not A Destination

Hahahaha, see that's what I'm afraid of. Not going bankrupt. I know I'd never let that happen to myself. But what is a possibility is I get myself into it and the fitness stuff doesn't ever step up to the plate financially (which is a real possibility, hard to make money in that industry) so I'm left doing something that, at times, eats at me big time.

It's all about giving and taking. Running the risk of staying in the financial industry much longer than I originally expected might be worth having a phenomenal home and property to raise my family on. It's simply something I have to give a lot of thought and consideration to.

And all of this is moot until I find out if they are willing to consider my low ball bid.

I figured I'd throw it out there and let that stand as whether it's meant to be or not. Or at least whether it's worth considering or not. If they laugh at it, fine by me. If they consider it... that's when I would really have to invest some time and thought.

And oh yea... I'm willing to risk my life in the name of awesome experience, good times, and all that.

Being stuck in a job that sucks though is worth than death to me. It's such a complex situation really it gives me a headache, lol.

It's so funny...you sound so Risk Adverse...but then w/your life you are cwazy! I hear ya on wanting to be happy at work. It's were we spend the majority of our waking hours. If you are not happy there...it can affect everything else around you.

Sounds like you are very thorough in your thinking about the house purchase. The good thing is that you are still young and have plenty of time to get buried in debt. If now is not a good time then wait...i'm sure in another 10 years or so the prices will drop again. :)

Best of luck to you...I know it really is a huge decision. But imagine coming home everyday to that lovely house...might hurt you in the pocket book but it will be yours and a great place to raise a family.

There are pros and cons of it. I just have to weigh them. First step is calling... I think I'll do that tomorrow afternoon after golf. :)

You wouldn't be jealous of my golf game... that I promise you!

But you're right, it is nice to get out there.

************

So my circuit training I've been doing on Tuesdays and Thursdays has grown. It started as two. We than picked up a wrestling coach. Then we picked up a girlfriend of a friend who is a rower and long distance racer. And now we just picked up a former state champion wrestler. Word of mouth is a wonderful thing. Soon I'm going to have to start charging!

I've really been upping the intensity.

Yesterday we went through two circuits consisting of 10 drills. Each drill lasted 30 seconds with 20 seconds between each station.

Stations included jump rope, russian twists with a med ball, tire rolls, band rotations, good mornings with a sandback, turkish get ups, speed ladder work, acceleration work between cones, mountain climbers, knee tucks, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

The last drill was nasty.

We did:

60 seconds of BW Squats
Sprint 100 yards
60 secondns of Pushups
60 seconds rest

repeat 4 times

That sounds like a lot of fun! I've been thinking about setting up an obsticle course in my back yard. I have a set of like, 60 stairs. I was thinking maybe do that and get a big tire to flip or beat with a sledgehammer. Maybe toss in some other strength and agility work.

Yea, we do some sledgehammer work, hill sprints, a lot of band work.

We don't do any true strength work. We reserve that for the gym. We primarily work on speed, agility, acceleration/deceleration, strength endurance and power.

In concept it's fun. In truth it's tough as nails... it leaves me crying for mommy, lol.

Haha, tell me about it... my weakness is sustained, hard effort for 10+ minutes. Probably why I've always been an athlete based on explosion. Sprinter in track, wing in lacrosse, forward in soccer, center fielder in baseball and receiver in football. I like sprinting. And stopping.

I had to befriend you... it's so sad that you had no friends :(

Steve, I need some help. I getting a lot of conflicting info on dynamic/static stretching. What do you feel would be ideal? I'm doing compound lifts and have been doing 5 minute warm-up on the treadmill and I do an unweighted set on each lift to get comfortable and focus on form but my stretching is all over the place. I feel like I need to get a little more focused on it and more "routine". But a lot of the dynamic stretches I find either take a football field to perform or they suggest 20 minutes before and 20 minutes after. I'll spend the time if I have to but is that much really necessary?

I dont' get all those nifty features. Does being my friend get you anything or is it just another way to build the click mentality?

No, that seems a big excessive.

Personally I do no cardio warmup but have no issue with someone spending 5 minutes to get the blood flowing and warm up the muscles.

From there, I spend about 10 minutes on dynamic mobility work. I try to keep it to the exercises that don't need a lot of room... things like; leg swings, hip and arm circles, torso twists, dynamic calf stretches, squat stretches, shoulder/scap rolls, etc.

From there I warm up with the actual lift, using heavy weight.

If I was warming up for squat at 315 for 5 reps per set, it might look something like this:

135x5
185x3
225x3
275x1
300x1
315x5x5

It all depends how I feel too. If I feel good I'll skip some of those. If I don't, I'll spend more time on some of them.

If I'm not lazy I'll spend some time static stretching immediately after. More often then not though, I do my static, corrective, and prehab stuff later at night while chatting with the wife.

being my friend gets you a lot... it gets you advice when you need it, cookies or brownies when I feel like baking them, cards on your birthday, a shoulder to cry on when you need it or a kick in the butt when you need that... or just someone to make you laugh.. or listen to...

This feature however, is all about the clique - nothing more :D

That's what I thought....

Well, I'm off to build the biggest, baddest friends list of all time.
