Journey, Not A Destination

happy groundhog day steve....and mal!

6 more weeks of winter ya? i guess that means six more weeks of 70 degree weather here!

i cant wait until its in the triple digits again....

Thanks Trevor..... I'm supposed to see the 60s this week!!

Totally...do you need a certain level of expertise to do those (not necessarily the overhead kind, but in general)??

I've seen people literally walk into a gym and squat perfectly. It's rare, but it happens. Why is it rare? There are a bunch of reasons really:

-people don't understand what a full squat is
-they don't know how to use their bodies that way
-muscle imbalances and poor flexibility

There's more.....

It's a 'technical' exercise.

When my site is up.... there will be some vids of single leg squats.

Thanks :)

Did he see his shadow? Not that it even matters. I believe this is the mildest winter in my life in terms of snow fall and temps.
the groundhogs couldn't reach a quorum... one did see his shadow - one did not -so that's 6 more weeks of whatever...

It's beena weird winter that's for sure - a handful of bitterly cold days... a couple of dumpings of a few inches of snow -and the rest a very mild 30s - it's nice when i can go to the gym in just a sweatshirt...

So I had quite the crazy weekend.....

Some of you know, but I grew up with quite a rowdy crowd of kids and we've all remained close throughout the years. I know all guys grow up with rowdy friends..... but mine have always seemed to one-up that adjective to an unnecessary level.

Some of my friends overtime have matured and are now successful. I'm one such guy from the 'group' thankfully.

Others, not so much. Of these, relatively speaking, a high number are dead or in dead end jobs doing what they can just to get by. But that's another issue for another time.

On Friday, a group of us went out to eat. This awesome little sea food joint that not many know about in town here. It's BYOB, and in total, 4 bottles of wine were brought. My wife, Krista, drove everyone b/c she doesn't drink. She's a saint I tell ya!

There were only 6 of us drinking and all the wine was gone by the end of the evening.

After dinner, we went to a local bar. It's been a while since I drank just to drink and I had some stress to unwind.....

We were having a very fun night just screwing around at this local dive bar.

Around 11, Jeff, a guy I grew up with who belongs in the 'bad group' of my friends decides he wants to leave. There is a woman wanting to meet up with him and he's dead set on leaving right this minute. I don't really like when one person dictates what everyone else gets to do.... just too greedy for my liking. I tell him we'll leave in 1 hour.

So he gets some guy who is leaving the bar to take him to his truck, which is at Peter's house, another friend of mine.

Jeff returns 5 minutes later to the bar. He decided against going to the woman's house. At this point I'm fuming b/c he went from having a ride home to being stuck at the bar with his truck in a matter of 10 minutes.... I mean what a stupid move.

I decide that our 'train is leaving' and beg Jeff to come with us. I told him we'd pick up his truck in the morning. We were a step away from screaming at each other and I finally said, "You're a grown man, I've given you your options, I've tried talking sense.... it's your call."

He leaves in his truck.

He doesn't get 5 miles down the road and rolls his truck after riding up a bank on the side of the road.

This story is getting long.... so to summarize what happened after this.....

Jeff has been staying with Peter this past month. He crashed less than a half mile from Peter's house. He left the scene of the accident and walked to Peter's. Peter calls me and tells me what happened. He says that Jeff rolled his truck, he's ok, and it's drivable. Can you please come over and help me roll it over so he can drive it to my house and not get in trouble. He's on probation.

I'll pretty much do anything for my friends, which in a way probably has enabled them over the years..... but I've also talked a lot of sense too over the years.

I get dressed all in black to go help. I figured, I better take precautions by dressing dark b/c I know damn well no cop in this area is fast enough to catch me and you damn well better believe I'm not getting in trouble for helping a drunk asshole, friend or not.

To get to Peters I have to drive by the accident. They're morons b/c that truck was far from fucking drivable. It was destroyed. Besides, a passerby had already gotten there and was on the phone with the cops.

Peter and I walk down through the fields to get to the accident scene and just as we get there, firetrucks, an ambulance, and cops pull up to the scene. Thankfully they didn't see us.

We walk back up to the house and a lot of crap happened like getting stories straight and whatnot but no need to go into detail.....

I was so mad at this point I literally ripped Jeff out of bed. (he was passed out sleeping, he told peter he just wants to sleep and forget about this until morning.)

Yea right!

I fucking flipped on him. It wasn't a year ago where we all lost a very good friend, Jared, in an accident that was eerily similar to this. It was kind of messed up when I drove by Jeff's truck.

Jared was drunk driving, ran off the road, went up a bank, rolled his white pickup truck, and unfortunately was ejected and the truck landed on him.

I drive by Jeff's accident and what do I see? A banged up white pick up truck laying on it's side after driving up a bank.

I basically told him that you just made it very evident that you are willing to let Jared die in vain.

It was a rough night to say the least. Jeff would be in Jail had he not fled the scene. Now he's going to simply get a fine. I guess when you're in those shoes and of that type you'll do all that you can just to 'survive.'

It bothered the shit out of me though.

In other news, I get home from a super bowl party last night and there are police all over my street. Turns out the husband 4 doors down from my killed his wife and then himself.

My aunt lives right next door to them and she told me this... not sure how they found out. I walked down and asked one of the officers what's going on and he said, "I can't tell you much but the neighborhood is safe and this house is a crime scene."

I figured someone died b/c they had crime tape all over the house and tons of investigators there.

Crazy. Wasn't in the paper this morning so hopefully I'll find out more today or tomorrow.

geez - what a weekend...

Turns out the husband 4 doors down from my killed his wife and then himself.
I've seen reports that super bowl sunday is when spousal abuse happens the most... Sad reality...

Wow. Okay.. I take that back. You did have a wild weekend. I'm sorry you had to relive that, man. Need a hug? :D If it makes you feel better, I'd be more than happy to drive over....

Thanks Sheryl. :)

It's amazing how people don't learn lessons. I'd ask what does it take... but the more time goes on... I realize there is nothing for some that will get through to certain people. It has to come from within, and that means the person needs to change which isn't likely considering how they currently are.

people are going to do what they're going to do... and until they have that lightbulb moment - they won't change... What that lightbulb moment is -- is different for each person... and sometimes that lightbulb never goes on...

It's tough to watch people in that situation... and sometimes it's best to just leave those people behind and keep going.. maybe they'll catch up - maybe they won't but people are responsible for their own choices -and there's not a lot you can do about it.

That's a good post, Mal.

I completely agree.

Oh believe me, man... I'm on this end watching my baby sister (the lesbian sister that you adore, Stacy) run around like a drunken fight-crazy crackhead. Unfortunately, the only way she's going to learn is if say she gets punched in the face by some guy or something else. (God forbid, but you can only talk so much.) Hopefully Jeff will wake up sooner than later, doll.
