Journey, Not A Destination

Part III

I should also add, this is by no means, set in stone. Varying things to suit you will not destroy the efficacy of the routine! If you want to follow it to a "T", fine. If you are uncomfortable making changes to it, but want to, feel free to ask me before you make the change.

I think far too many people take my word as the gospel around here. I would much rather you question ANYONE'S words before accepting them as the truth.

I wish I could stickie this somehow in my journal. I might make this a post of its own.

Awesome info Steve, exactly what I wanted! Now I'm all psyched to get going!!

And to ask another dumb (weight lifting virgin) question, do I use the same amount of weight for each different lift?

Maybe we should make this a sticky somewhere...

Salut, Steve!
Read the 1st part of instructions for weight-lifters virginous. Bookmarked all of them.. Thanks for the thoroughness! There's a lot to learn from those, and it's going to be good to check my technique..
I'm looking forward to the next episodes of Weights according to Steve. :p

Man now THATS What i wanna look like - shes totally hot

Too lean for my liking, but she certainly is a beautiful woman.

Morning Steve! How was your weekend? Hope you had a good one

Hello Becka. I had an excellent weekend, thanks. :)

welcome to monday - hope it' a terrific day and the easter bunny treated you well..

Hiya Mal, thanks. Easter Bunny certainly did treat me well. I ate like a king yesterday!

Good morning. Hope your weekend was great and today wil be too!:)

Thanks and likewise! :)

Happy Monday!:D

I'm going to take my calories down to 1600 this week and maintenance Sat and Sun (2100). I'm not seeing the scale budge for about 2 weeks. It's been fluctuating between 134-135.

Let me know how that works out for you. Since you don't have a lot of weight to lose, some type of cyclical diet may be in order. Also, remember, weight loss is not linear. Especially when you don't have much weight to lose. Keep me posted.

Good morning...things are going pretty well with me...I finally broke 160! My weight has been steady 159 since Saturday. :) I lost inches last week too! It was a good week, ate well, slept well, and I feel good.

Congrats!! This is excellent news. Inches gone is ALWAYS a good thing. :)

Hi Steve, I put my scale away for the month.

Wow, what brought this on? Will you be tracking measurements still, I hope?

Salut, Steve!

Thanks for moving the post Bruce! Not that it matters, the workout will be buried in a few seconds. I started another thread for it, which is what I should have done in the first place.

I am glad the heavy lifting is going well. Track those measurements!

hello handsome :D i love these posts about weights. do you mind putting them as sticky somewhere so we can access it always? i can't do some of these exercises but i do most of them :D (a bit modified because of my lower back). i used to find squats very difficult but now i actually see definition in my legs and now i love them hehe

have a great day :D

Hey Steve

Started my weight training today (after many a year away from regular weights). Incorporated some of your advice

Leg rehab
One-legged presses 3x10reps
Stability ball hamstring curls 3x10reps

Bench press 5x5reps
Barbell rows 5x5reps
Standing barbell press 3x8reps
Lat pulldowns 3x8reps

I think this will be my basic workout for a little while, alternating between heavy/light for horizontal/vertical - I really like the strategy. Thanks.

Sounds good.

Stability ball hamstring curls.... I am assuming you mean SHELCs. If so, that is a great exercise you don't see often.

SHELC = Supinated Hip Extension with Leg Curl

I had to look up a SHELC on youtube...very similar movement...except body is stiff throughtout the exercise rather than back touching the mat.

I'm even increasing my protein intake...trying to have 1g per lb of lean body weight...we'll see how that works for me.

Hi Steve! So I went back to weights (free and machine) and my weight just dropped 2lbs! Also I got complimented today on how strong I am!!! woohoo!

Cyclical diet? Can I get a little more info? I'll look it up onthe internet too. Also, I looked at my nutrition for the past few weeks and I still really need to clean it up - A LOT. So before I go down in calories, I'm going to make some changes first and see how that goes. Right now I'm doing 40/40/20 (C/P/F) and getting 1800/day.

For the past 4 weeks, I've been doing the same exercises 2-3 days a week for 4 weeks: squat, bench, stiff leg dead, rows or pulldown. Usually I'm pretty psyched about my lifting days, but today, I'm getting bored. I need some variety, any suggestions?

Also, if you had to choose, which would you buy: Afterburn (Alwyn Cosgrove) or Flexible Diet (Lyle Mcdonald) - I'm not sure of the book title, but it's similar to that. I'm still trying to finish the new rules of lifting also.
