Journey, Not A Destination

Right now trout season just opened here, so I've been doing a lot of that. But I do all sorts of fishing, fresh and salt water. Fly and spin reel.

I'm going good.

I got a hair cut for the first time in like a year.

I joined a gym and it likely is one of the best things I've done in a LONG time. I have never enjoyed lifting like I do now. I'm pushing myself like I never have before. ;)

Working out alone in my home was just not working for me. I was never truly pushing myself.

I wish I had joined a gym a year ago. I would be so much further than I am right now.

Which do you prefer; Home workout or gym?

I have never really gone fishing. Sounds like fun, though.

This Friday night I'll end the diet and start a 2 day refeed. From there, I think I'll be moving into some sort of cyclical diet. Something like Lyle's UD2 is IMO the best for someone in my shoes looking to lose fat and maintain/gain muscle.
Best of luck with that, man!

Glad to hear.

I much prefer the gym setting. It's motivational for me to lift around others. Plus, I don't like being confined to the limitations *most* home gyms have. I mean, you can get real creative, but having all the things most good gyms have in them makes life a lot easier.

I have a trout fishing trip planned for June. I grew up in the north Georgia mountains and trout fished all my life. It's too hot in Alabama for trout and I miss it a lot. It's all about the bass here. Which is fun but you have to have too much equipment to do it.

I cover up, for the most part, in the gym. When it's the cold months I always train in pants and long sleeve.

In the warmer months, shorts and a T.

I've never been of the type to wear those tank tops and whatnot. Most of the guys I see wearing those sorts of things seem to think they're really pretty to look at. That's a piss poor impression to be giving IMO.

Haha - right on, Steve.

You know whats funny. I believe I'm the only person in the whole gym that uses the squat cages. ;)

When I'm squatting(any type) I have people behind me watching as they sit on their chest press machines and so on. I can see them while I squat thanks to the mirrors. I'm guessing they have just never seen anyone do a squat, outside of a smith machine.

Plus you get to flex your biceps for the general public .. that'd be far too distracting for me
haha - my biceps(brachii) ain't anything special to look at.

I've done my fair share of bass fishing too... lake and river.

But trout fishing has always been 'it' for me. I've done some trout fishing in Georgia. Actually, every year I do when I head down there for an annual conference. There are some beautiful streams/rivers there.

Hey in my imagination, you workout "spartan" style..

Let's not change my imagination mmm'kay? :D

Haha, if people saw my workouts they'd be surprised. They're quite boring. There are always those around me doing all sorts of fancy stuff with new machines, unilateral stuff, jumping all over the place and whatnot. Everything has a place and time but I practice what I preach and I've always gotten the most mileage, with myself and my clients, by sticking with the basics.

boring is ok - :) it's effective...

by spartan style, i meant nekkid - though nekkid squatting -well - not so much the sexy...

but everything else -nekkid :)

It's the same way in my gym, which I hope to change soon. It's a big gym with a lot of members, yet, I never had to wait for one (of two) squat racks yet. On one hand, I'm happy as hell about that since about half of every workout I spend in one. On the other though, it's evident how many people are missing out.

In reality, and just as a note, some of my fatter clients I don't even have them do the basic strength exercises. It's about picking your battles and for them, it's more about metabolic work than strength work.
