Journey, Not A Destination

What makes him so smart?

1. common sense brought about by years of life experience
2. ability to see thru the bull shit that people spew forth and call people on it
3. a wiseness brought about by years of hard work and having nothing handed to him
4. the incredible ability to make people think about a given situation by asking relatively obvious questions - obvious once the question has been asked that is... he's one of the few people that can see the forest thru the trees...

Wow, can I have his phone number?! :p

Seriously though, sounds like an amazing person.

Certainly rare.

Hey Steve! Just wanted to stop in and wish you a good weekend. I hope things are going well for you.

I also wanted to say thank you for all of the advice regarding including weight training in my workouts...I started last week, with a friend, and we're lovin' it!

Awesome DQ, glad to hear! Let me know if there's anything I can do. :)

Internet was down all afternoon and evening again yestderday! :(

Maybe it's time I start paying for my internet, lol.

or maybe whomever you're stealing yur internet should start paying for their cable :)

I'm stealing it directly from comcast actually. My friend is a sub-contractor for them and somehow he has me with cable internet without paying for it. Something with old or canceled accounts. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I enjoyed it for quite a long time.

He's coming over today sometime to look into it. If he can't fix it though, time to start paying. Especially since in the near future I'm looking to operate a business via the web.

get a wireless card - i'm sure one of your neighbors has some free internet access for you :)

free cable - what a nice perk - good to have connected friends

I do have a wireless card. My router is wireless at home since I have a desktop and laptop. I'm always on a computer, and when it's nice outside, I like to go out on the porch with the laptop.

But everything isn't working.

And none of my neighbors have it. They're all old. Really old.

Haha - Steve, I was just telling someone your one of the smartest people I know. And here you are admiting to illegal activities on a puplic form!

Haha, I was thinking about that while I was typing it. Admitting I'm stealing internet on the internet.

Oh well.

Thanks for the props though Trevor! :)

Hey trouble!

Just wondering - how do you do a "cut"?

Now that I have a normal BMI, I'm trying to lower my body fat so that my abs show up a little (they're still quite tight despite the lack of workouts recently - I am SO surprised at how little muscle tone I've lost). Obviously I don't want to lose muscle, and I'll still be going to the gym to do weights and cardio.

I'm trying to do the 5 meals a day plan - how should I roughly balance my meals? I'm about 57kg now (125lb) with 22-23% body fat so how much protein should I aim for? I know what types of food to eat, just don't know in what proportions!

Thanks a lot!!

Cut = fat loss

It's the same principles as any 'diet' really.

I'd focus on getting in about 1.25 grams of protein per pound of lbm... so approximately 100 grams. Try and fit these proportionately into each of your meals.

This will give you about 400 calories.

In terms of fat, I'd suggest taking in something like .5 grams per pound, which would equate to 60ish grams.

This will give you about 540 calories.

The rest can come from carbs. I'm not sure what you been taking in, calorically speaking. I'm basing the recommendations off of something like 11 calories per pound (1375). If that were the case, you'd be able to fit in 435 calories worth of carbs.... or put differently 100-110 grams or so.

If you want to get technical, I'd concentrate your carb intake around your workouts primarily. This isn't necessary, but it's what I do when cutting down.

So if I train in the late afternoon, my first few meals will most likely be protein and fat rich. The latter meals will be protein and carb rich.

Of course get your veggies in, and some fruit. I'd eat veggies at every meal pretty much.

You could try this route and see how it treats ya. I'm shooting from the hip here though, just giving general advice. It all depends on how you've been eating really.

That sounds about right :) thanks a lot! I must eat about 60g of protein atm and that's me trying to eat lots of prot! I guess I'm going to have to rely on protein shakes because I just can't find the time/money to cook a steak every two hours (well you know what I mean).

I would think I eat less than 60g of fat a day - I usually eat far less calories of fat than in carb (not purposely though - I tend to cook everything from scratch and I only use a bit of olive oil).

Is it necessary to have more calories from fat than carbs? I like my carbs (I eat stuff like oats, buckwheat, rye bread and plenty of veggies, and some fruit).

I certainly understand the challenge. I have to get more protein in than you!

That said, I do rely on shakes. Sometimes twice per day. However, I also do a lot of food preparation. I pre-cook my meats twice per week, bag specific weights, are refrigerate. It makes it much easier.

That's fine.

Just make sure your fat source is the good stuff. Things like fish, fish oils, flax, nuts, peanut butter, avocados, etc

Is it necessary to have more calories from fat than carbs?

Certainly not. Why don't you shoot for .25 grams of fat per pound of body weight comprised primarily of the above types of foods.

Hey there stranger!! It's sooo good to be posting here again :)
Anyhoo, I replied to you in my journal, and I just wanted to let you know!! :)

Hiya Brit. It's nice to have ya back! :)

I saw your reply. You are going to go check for some adjustable dumbbells. Let me know what you find. Then we'll get something 'down on paper' for you to try out in terms of a routine.
