Hello Journal,

Starting this because I am tired of being unhealthy and embarrassed to show myself in public. I am tired of my clothes not fitting (because they are becoming way too tight) and playing the stretching game everytime they come out of the dryer. So now it is time to fix the problem that I have created! I actually started last week with cutting out sodas and drinking water. I also started working out to dvd's. But i don't really have support from anyone around here.

I guess I will take time to answer this survey first.

What is your current height and weight?
--age:31 height:5'2 weight:198.6 lbs (blah)

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?

--135lbs

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?

--160lbs

Why do you want to lose weight?

--Be healthier and not have to fight with clothes and curse dryer
--not be embarassed
--easier to shop for clothes
--get back into outdoor activities w/o feeling slow and disgusting

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?

--actually I do want to have a reunion next year with some friends I used to be stationed with in the Air Force. We are supposed to have a hiking/camping trip together and I do not want to be out of shape or embarrased by my appearance. But I am not wanting to lose for a specific event. I want to be healthy for rest of life

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?

--my own mind coming up with excuses. I have a bad habit of procrastinating
--working the midnight shift
--my infatuation with sweet stuff and fried stuff

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?

-- lack of exercise and bad diet


What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?

--exercise and good diet

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?

--weightwatchers i lost 40lbs about 4 years ago.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?

--I just got lazy

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?

sure... that what this journal is for

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?

--i try to cook but I am not great at it. Spaghetti, fried chicken, porkchops...
I tryo to cook for my boyfriend and his daughter. He does grill a lot but a lot of it is unhealthy

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?

--actually do not really go out to eat because it is too expensive

What are your three favorite foods?

filipino food (I am half), fried shrimp poboys, and diet coke :)

What are your three favorite restaurants?

i really don't know... it has been a while since I went to a restaurant

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?

monitor what i am eating

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?

--I would be a size 8 instead of a tight 14/16

Do you eat when you are not hungry?

--yes

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?

--yes I have
Do you hide your food or eat in secret?

--no

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?

--oh yeah

Do you eat as a reward?

-- yeah...

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?

--yes

What do you normally eat for a meal?

-- pretty much anything that was made dinner. I would also bring leftovers to work so i would probably end up eating 3 or 4 servings by the time I was finished. Lunch i would eat top ramen and breakfast is usually dinner because I work at night and sleep during the day.

What type of snacks do you eat?

--up until last week where i starting bring apples and grapefruit to work, I was eating chips and and candy bars from the snack lockers.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?

--I started the Slim in 6 exercise videos last week. Been doing those every other day.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?

Well... home right now. I am too embarassed to work out in public right now. About 3 years ago I was trail biking and kayaking a lot, which i want to start doing again. I also have a gym memebership that is not being used.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?

--used to be kayaking, biking, and about 6 years ago i loved free weights. I would love for them to be my favorites again. just got to get myself comfortable with them again

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?

-- i think I am going to go by how I feel and the way my clothes fit. I started cleaning up my diet and working out to dvd's last week and I do feel a bit better.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?

--I think higher self-esteem and self-confidence will be my rewards.


So I guess now I should set a goal for myself for the next week.

1. Start eating smaller meals and keep with the healthy snacks
2. Start walking on the beach after I get off work in the mornings (anyone live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and need a walking partner??)
3. Keep with the exercise videos
4. Keep drinking water
 
Day 1

Ok so this is the end of day 1. I ended up just eating breakfast and dinner with no lunch and no snacks. I know is not good but I think it was because I actually had a real breakfast that filled me up. I think it is also due to eating breakfast around noon today. Usually breakfast for me is around 4 or 5 pm (which usually consists of an evening meal) but I ended up getting up early (my day off). After breakfast, I worked out for about 20 minutes on Slim in 6. I made dinner for boyfriend around 5:30pm. I guess that would be considered lunch for me? I think I am confusing myself trying to write it out :)

About 30 minutes ago, I ATTEMPTED to workout with Brazilian Buttlift but stopped after 10 minutes. I couldn't keep my balance and could not breathe. I think I will hold off on those videos until I get in a lot better shape. Those workouts are definately not for those who have not worked out for a while. Not a very good start but at least I tried... right??

So this is what I ate today

Breakfast:
1 Egg
1 Slice of toasted Pumpernickel Bread (Sara Lee)
2 packets of instant oatmeal
2 cups of Coffee w/ a teaspoon of creamer

Dinner (or lunch)

--1 fist size portion of meatloaf (made it with lean ground beef, onions, mushrooms, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1 egg, and between 1/2 and 1 cup of breadcrumbs)
--1 cup of peas


I guess I could eat another meal or have a snack but I am not hungry. Plus I just downed a bottle of water. I will do better tomorrow. I forgot to eat fruit today too.
 
Day 2

Thanks for the advice. I know it was not a very good start for day 1. The sad thing is that my goal is to eat 3 meals a day with snacks (or mini meals) in between but yesterday I was not hungry. Guess I should go ahead and snack on fruit or veggies if that happens again? What do you suggest?

So on to Day 2...

Ended up passing out around 2:30 AM and waking up around 8 AM. I really have a hard time keeping up with my sleep schedule on my nights off.

Since I was up, I decided to break out the Wii Fit. I have not used it for 6 months. The little bastard voice told me that I was obese during the body measurement part. I know that I am obese but it still makes me cringe to hear it. So what happens when I am fit and healthy? Will the Wii tell me how hot I look? Anyways... I ended up doing 33 minutes of yoga, hula hoop, and strength training. I will be doing Slim in 6 later before work.

I am going to rename breakfast, lunch, and dinner as meal 1, 2, and 3. I think it will be much easier since everything is flip-flopped for me.

meal 1: (pretty much same as yesterday)

1 egg
1 slice of pumpernickel toast
1 tsp of hot sauce
2 packets of strawberries and cream instant oatmeal
1 cup of coffee w/ 1 tbsp of creamer

Snack:
1 Large grapefruit and a bottle of water

Well going to go back to bed and try to wake around 6 tonight. My goal for tonight is to eat meal 2 around 7 PM and meal 3 around 1 or 2 AM when I am at work (with some snacks of grapefruit and apples). I will write tomorrow morning after work and log down whether I stuck to the goals or not.

I don't know what to suggest. Literally never found myself NOT hungry (unless I'm ill or had a massive lunch or something).

I guess it probably depends when you eat. I get up and eat breakfast instantly, so when it gets to around 12 or 1, I'm starting to feel peckish for lunch. Then around 4 I feel a little hungry, some fruit keeps me going until dinner around 7ish.
 
Day 2 (Continued)

So I pretty much stuck to my goal of eating meal 2 and meal 3 last night at work. I will go ahead and post what I had for meal 1 again.

Meal 1:
1 egg
1 slice of pumpernickel toast
1 tsp of hot sauce
2 packets of strawberries and cream instant oatmeal
1 cup of coffee w/ 1 tbsp of creamer

Snack:
1 Large grapefruit and a bottle of water

Meal 2:

Half a large plate of salad
-- Romaine Lettuce, plain Broccoli Slaw (love it!), cherry tomatos, red onions, and approximately a tbsp of throusand island (still need to get the lower fat one)

2 country style ribs marinated in soy sauce and vinegar
1/2 cup of mac and cheese.
1 can of Diet Coke (i am a recovering addict. i guess 1 is better than 6 or 7)

Meal 3:
1 fist-sized portion of leftover meatloaf

Snack:

1 large apple (Golden Crisp)

I ended up drinking a total of 5 bottles of water


I did not do my second workout before heading into work last night but... I got home a hour and half ago extremely pissed off and aggravated and decided to do a few of my dvd workouts instead of running to the pantry or fridge and stuffing my face. I am proud of myself for turning that anger into something beneficial instead of destructive.

2 egg burritos full of greatness (scrambled eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and a bit of bacon, and hot sauce,)

Snack:
Grapefruit
2 pkgs of crackers (6 each)

Meal 3:
pop-tart

3 Bottles of water



I was in a rush last night and didn't have time to pack a lunch.



Exercise:
45 minutes of 2nd DVD. Just finished it about 10 min ago and I already know that I will be sore. I hate workout bands.


Well... I was able to fit into jeans that I haven't been able to fit into for a few months. They were still a bit snug around the waist but at least I could button them and they didn't cut off circulation to the upper half of my body. :)

Hey Rose, welcome to the forum! Good to see you make a start in the right direction!!

Have you had a look at all at what kind of calorie intake you are having daily verses what your maintenance / lose weight calories are for your height and size?

I'm on a kind of simple less in than out sort of plan and the exercise bit of it adds to the "out" part :)

I love kayaking too and didn't do any for years because I was too worried that i'd turn up and my bottom wouldn't fit in a kayak anymore!!! Not a problem now I'm happy to say :D

This is the second time I have tried to reply to your message. For some reason I keep getting logged out.

Anyhoo... No I have not been counting calories but I know I should. I just have been trying to put more veggies and fruit and do smaller portions of everything. Make better choices really (with the exclusion of the poptart, biscuit, and crackers :) ). Thinking about it now, I am probably not getting enough calories.

Where do I go or how do I figure out how many calories I need for my body type? Also... what kind of plan are you on? Any advice is appreciated and I really need a buddy on here to kick me in the right direction and motivate me. I just looked at your profile and saw your pictures. Awesome body transformation!

Glad to meet a fellow kayaker! I have a nice recreational kayak that has been collecting dust for over a year. I used to go all the time and I miss it. I just started feeling gross and embarrassed and didn't want to be seen by others on the river. What kind of kayaking were you into? We just have slow moving rivers and the gulf of mexico down here. I have always wanted to try whitewater.
 
DAy 4

Meal 1:
large salad topped with 1 can plain tuna and a a few tbsp of thousand island
4 pizza hut chicken wings (honey bbq)

Meal 2:
scrambled eggs with onions
1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt
hot sauce
1 large tortilla

Snacks:
crackers

Drink:
4 bottles of water

I could have done without the crackers but I didn't pack a lunch. Will try not to do that again. I really need to hit the grocery store.

Boyfriend ordered pizza and wings last night. I was tempted to eat a slice but I knew that 1 slice would lead to 2 and 2 would lead to 3. So decided to make a salad instead. I had to have some wings though. I just looked up the nutritional info and its is 280 calories for 4 wings. I guess it could be worse. I really wish he could try to eat healthier with me. Would make things a bit easier.


Exercise:
Will try do 45 minutes before work. I was too tired this morning. Right now kind of feeling down:eek:

i read ur journal there,it was interesting ,, well a little about me is, i am a health nut ,,kinda lol..
i jus wanted to jot down a few pointers,, so would like to lose weigth right? well i kno it can be very hard ,,some things u have to go by are,, u cannot have too much sugar,, so pop would b out of the ? also butter and salt,, i acn go on and on,, if u want to look really good and b happy u must follow these things ,, we can go threw this together so pls feel free to write me anytime,, iam on here to help ppl out .. reguards kevin

Hello! Just stopping in to say good luck! You should be VERY proud of yourself for turning your anger into an excuse to work out! I find it to be such a stress reliever. If only we could *always* remember that!

Been feeling a little sick over the past few days. I think I narrowed the sick thing to eggs. Everytime i ate scrambled eggs over the past week, they made me feel a little sick to my stomach a few hours later. I know there is nothing wrong with the eggs because the boyfriend and his daughter haven't had any reaction to them. I have never really been a big breakfast food person so maybe i am just not used to it? hopefully i don't have to add eggs to my small list of food allergies. boooo

Anyways... today was my weekly weigh-in and i am down to 193.2. weird considering i did end up having a few chocolate bars and chips over the past few days. Finally made it to the grocery store last night and got much healthier stuff to snack on.

question: How does everyone deal with holidays, such as Holloween? I want to stay away from my yearly tradition of attacking and demolishing a bag or two of peanut butter cups.

Is there a good protein powder/shake out there that is not too watery and tastes decent?

-- I used to drink them all the time during a period in my Air Force days when I was working out all of the time and in shape (6-8 years ago). I just remember them as not so tasty and kind of watered down. I think that they were EAS products.
