Hello everyone, it's me dwwise83... I'm back (again) and ready to go. I feel really motivated this time around and I am SO ready to be healthy, fit, and active. I have a long way to go, but I have finally started the process... again.

I'm really good at losing weight. I've gone from 235 to 175 two separate times in the last 5 years. I'm even better at GAINING weight! I've gone from 175 to 235 (and up) three separate times in the last 8 years (I started out as a skinny child / adult).

As of yesterday, I weighed in at 244.6 - my all time high. While that number disgusts me, I feel happy knowing I will never EVER see it again. Really. Like... for sure.

Let's see - I'm 28, male, father of 3 beautiful little girls, happily married, and work in the Clinical Research Field. I travel a lot for my job all over the US (60% travel) which played a large part in my last weight gain session.

My plan is pretty simple in theory, but proving to be quite a challenge in real life :) But, anything that is worth something comes at a price.

I am eating clean and healthy, trying to avoid processed foods, high calorie foods, etc... and focusing on fruits / veggies / lean protein.

I joined the gym near my house and plan to workout 5 days a week with 70% strength training (lifting heavy) and 30ish % cardio. My cardio will be a mixture of mod intensity and HIIT / SURGE... whatever you want to call it.

My wife is joining me this time, something she wasn't able to do last time because she was pregnant. I am thrilled and I really think her support will make a huge difference.

-----------------------

Okay, I went to the gym this morning and did HIIT for cardio and focused on my back for strength training.

HIIT was hard as hell!!! I wanted to do 8 intervals on / 8 off / 1 minute each, but only managed 3. Geeze I'm out of shape. As soon as I step on a treadmill my heart is beating at 130... and it used to take so much effort to maintain that heartrate!

My back is already kinda sore, in addition to my shoulders which I did yesterday. I am glad to have a rest day tomorrow and will return to the gym on thursday (legs) with new vigor.

Happy losing everyone,

Wayne

Amen! I started crying when I saw my highest-ever weight.. 226.. But I swore to myself I would never, ever see that number again.

Good luck, I am looking forward to cheering you on to victory once more :D

Thanks for reading Bongabonga :) "Never again" is my new mantra!

Today is going well so far. It is my rest day from the gym; however, I still had to wake up at 6 thanks to my middle child and her inability to sleep once the sun shines. Once I woke up, I was very productive though - cleaned the house, mopped the floors, etc... So, I burned calories AND I have a clean house! Woot.

My shoulders and back are pretty sore today and I'm glad I have a leg day tomorrow, even though my legs are the only thing not hurting at the moment. I need to look up about 5 exercises to do for legs tomorrow - any suggestions? I already have squats and lunges - the rest I will probably do on machines (like that leg push thingy).

Food is good. I'm officially tired of broccoli so I'm going to change it up a little tomorrow. I am planning my first refeed. It will be on March 11 at my favorite mexican restaurant - I can make it!!! and that should definitely last me another week or two.

Happy losing!

It's great that your wife will be doing this with you!! My boyfriend is also on board with me :) We did really well together last time and plan on doing it again!! Good luck!!

Thanks gymgirl. I'm happy to have her this time around - it's been amazing to have my wife just as motivated as I am!

I agree to your challenge, and I will 'see' you on April 2, 2011! I think you can keep up with me ;) you just have to make your gym time really count. Have you thought about doing HIIT and strength training? Droning away on the treadmill only works while you are on the treadmill. HIIT and strength training keep your metabolism up ALL day and helps build lean muscle to keep the calories burnin'.

I had a really good workout at the gym this morning! Before heading out, I ate a handfull of peanuts and that seemed to give me a little boost and help settle my stomach while working out.

It was leg day and I also did about 10 minutes of intervals on the treadmill. My shoulders and back are starting to feel better, which is good since I'm doing chest and arms on Saturday.

Diet is going well, yesterday had a few hard parts (like watching a pizza hut commercial while waiting for dinner to finish up... drool), but I stayed strong and ate well all day. My wife went to the gym last night and did some light walking on the treadmill (she's not approved for heavy exercise yet since she had a c-section 5 weeks ago). I'm so proud of her!

I think I'm retaining water - my wedding ring is very tight and my diet has had a lot of salty foods. Therefore, I'm chugging water today in hopes I can flush it all out.

Happy Losing!

good job on your first day!!! and your wife too! and yes drinking tons of water will help with the water retention. I have tried HIIT but i really hate it cause its hard work LOL but! i know thats the best way to keep your metabolism up and running so I better toughen up if I'm gonna beat you! :coolgleamA:

Thanks rider! I see you started around 242 which is also my starting weight - great job on the loss so far! Losing weight is one of my passing goals, my ultimate goal is KEEPING IT OFF! Once and for all!

We got this

Well, I thought I would post my weigh-in dates so that I could update it each week. I'm aiming for 1-3 pounds per week.

Oh, I should mention that I am facilitating a weight loss competition in my office. I have 16 people participating (4 groups of 4) and it lasts from Mar 1, 2011 - May 31, 2011 (91 days). I would really like to be around 200 pounds by the end of the competition, which is a difficult goal, but doable if I work really hard. That will be 45 pounds in 3 months! I know this is a semi-unrealistic goal, but I want to set the bar high so that I will push myself.

At the end of the competition we are participating in the Susan G Komen 5K, which I did 2 years ago (in 29 minutes!) Everyone seems pretty motivated, but it's kinda funny because the people that signed up don't seem to be that unhealthy.

weight - 241.0 (-3.6)

It wasn't an official weigh-in day, but I was happy to see the scale go down some! I think the 120 ozs of water yesterday really helped :)

Today is my rest day from the gym and I am so glad because my legs are KILLING me from yesterday's workout! so sore! I head back to the gym tomorrow for chest / arms / HIIT and again on Sunday for 1 hour of cardio.

Food went really well yesterday, but I don't think I ate enough. I was feeling SUPER hungry all day and then we had a very light dinner. I am going out to a mexican restaurant today for lunch with some co-workers and plan to get either a taco salad (and only eat a little bit of the shell) or chicken fajitas. I'm trying to eat a little less for b-fast / snacks to account for the extra lunch calories.

I probably won't post over the weekend so the next time I post will be Monday after my Week 1 weigh-in - fingers crossed for good numbers!!

congrats on the loss to far!
So glad to see your wife on board, I find it helps me a lot too having my husband supporting me!

Yeah, it's made a huge difference so far!

Well, I went to the mexican restaurant for lunch and did 'okay.' I ordered well (I thought) and got a grilled chicken breast with rice / beans/ tortillas / sour cream salad. It was very good, and I ate all of the chicken, 3 tortillas, 1/3 cup rice, 1/3 cup beans, 3 tbl sourcream. :drool5: I left a LOT of food on the plate yet I was VERY full. Usually I would have eaten everything, plus chips and queso - and I would have ordered something fried and covered in cheese.

So, I give myself an 'A' for improvement! :cheers2: I'm probably going to take it pretty easy at dinner time since I had lots of extra calories at lunch, but other than that I should be okay!

I'm actually looking forward to the gym tomorrow :eek2:

Congrats on starting your journey down the scale again. Fantastic that you have a partner this time. It really does make a difference.

I'm actually looking forward to the gym tomorrow :eek2:

I was really looking foward to my run tonight - but had promised hubby that we could go out for Mexican food tonight (a weakness for both of us). I can't run after dinner - need to let things settle for a couple hours. But I'm already planning on an early start at the gym tomorrow....that's a big change from a couple months ago.

Weigh-in Day and Weekend Update

Weight: 238.4 Pounds, Lost 6.2!

Well, I am really happy about my weight loss. So happy to see the 230's again and I'm on my way to the 220's (which I haven't seen in a LONG LONG time)

Saturday:
Had a really nice day! Ate well all day, no extra weekend snacking or anything. I also felt really well. Went to the gym for HIIT / Chest / Arms. It was a very hard workout. I was still sore from my previous workouts and felt SO weak trying to lift the weights. One day I'll feel strong -

Sunday:
Ate well again, but had a pretty rough day mentally. My kids were acting crazy and I felt very tired all over. I had to do an hour of cardio, so I took the BodyStep class at the gym. Oh. My. God. I nearly died. It was a really good cardio workout, but really tough.

I've been drinking about 100 oz of water everyday, which makes a huge difference!

I'm feeling pretty good today, happy with the weight loss (my wife lost over 8 pounds!!) and feeling a little nervous about the gym today. I'm going after work and doing shoulders - which are still feeling pretty sore. Hopefully it will go well!

Happy losing!

Hey DW..... looks like things are really going well for Ya!!!! Nice job! It's great when your whole family is behind you when you are doing this. It really helps!
Great job on keeping it up on the weekends.... that's my downfall!

Keep up the good ( great ) work!

Thanks Rider! I chose Monday as my Weigh-In day to keep me honest on the weekends and it really works for me. I want that scale to go down on Monday morning so I really work hard on the weekend... and there is a lot more time to be active.

Hello All - It's time for my daily check-in!

I went to the gym after work yesterday and worked out for about 1 hour on my shoulders (warm-up and cool-down on the treadmill). Had sushi for dinner - VERY GOOD even though it had white rice it really hit the spot!

I woke up at 6 this morning and went back to the gym to do HIIT and back exercises. It went REALLY well this morning. I was feeling good, energetic, and put in a good hour of work (20 minutes for HIIT, 40 for Back).

Food is going well. I bought a lean cuisine for lunch today, which is fine. I usually have homemade non-processed foods, but for today a lean cuisine will work. (i'm tired of chili!)

Well, I have my first business trip starting tomorrow since I've been on this 'diet'. It's actually near my hometown so I'm staying with my parents. As soon as I arrive I am heading to the grocery for some health foods (they have NONE) and then on Friday my wife is driving down for a visit with the family. In total, I will be gone from Wednesday - Sunday. AHHH. I've already made my food plans and workout plans for the trip, so hopefully everything will work out. I am excited about our mexican dinner on Friday night but I'm trying to reel in the cravings so I don't get TOO out of control.

Hope everyone is well!

W

So, I had a lean cuisine for lunch today - all of 290 calories. Well, at 3:00 I was STARVING... like, I could eat my arm. Usually we have apples and oranges in the breakroom, but today NOTHING. So, I got a package of animal crackers out of the vending machine and a smear of peanut butter. I feel much better now :)

I ate half the pack, which is about 150 calories.

We are having meatloaf for dinner, a healthy recipe. It has ground turkey and is Italian themed so that will be yummy and hopefully filling! I think I'm going to do a quick weigh-in in the morning so that I can see where I stand before heading out of town. Hopefully, I'm down a little more! I would really like to be down a total of 15 pounds by the end of the month - I CAN DO IT! That would put me at 229, woot woot

Excellent on the weight loss. Even better that you are planning ahead for food and workout while you are away!

Keep up the good work (your wife too)!
