Josey's weight loss journey

I've found it encouraging writing my thoughts, struggles, etc. in my own personal weight loss diary so thought it would be even better sharing my journey with everyone and pick up more tips, advice and support along the way.

I've just started eating better and exercising (started officially on 01/09/2016) and already am feeling a difference (along with some weight loss already :D)

My name is Josey, I'm 5'4 and my goal is lose 30kg or more.
I have less kilos to lose than the amount of times I've tried to lose the weight but haven't, I'm usually pretty lazy, and really enjoy watching movies or playing games as well as eating chocolate and other fatty foods so this has definitely been a challenge so far. I do struggle a bit as I work two jobs and go to school twice a week so I've only been doing about 30 - 40 minutes a day on my treadmill but am slowly building myself up as I'm really unfit and asthmatic so I'm not just going to jump into some crazy work out routine :p As hard as the last week as been with adjusting I'm so happy and proud of my efforts so far and cannot wait to post my successful updates!

I found that preparing myself for a good week prior to this helped a lot along with prepping my lunch and dinner in advance has been great.

Any tips on really easy snacks (I mostly have been eating cherry tomatoes, fruit and nuts, but I'm getting a bit over them) would be highly appreciated. :)

Hi Josey!

Welcome to the forums! I hope that you reach your goals. You keep trying, that's good! Why did you give up on your last attempts? The better you know how to answer this question, the more insight you will have to help you make the next attempt more successful. Being human, I have also failed at many things, sometimes for many years, but the way I break this cycle (which could continue for a lifetime if you just keep trying to reach your goal without changing your strategy) is by asking myself a lot of questions about why I have not been successful so far, and then how I am going to do it differently this time. Another helpful question that I ask is: what is the step that I have not taken yet, that seems uncomfortable and scary (so I avoid it), but that I deep down know has a good chance of helping me go forward.

About easy snack... I have developed an avocado addiction, I eat like 10 of them per week. They are awesome. They are nutritious, tasty and also help losing weight.

Thanks for the info! The main reason why I gave up was laziness, lack of motivation and not being prepared, however this time I've really tried to plan as much as I can in advance and this week was a success, a lot better than my other attempts.

Hi and welcome
Snack idea- I tend to go for a 100 cal or less protein like a cheese stick or a beef jerky. They fill me a bit more. Just an idea.

On the snacks it really depends. If it's legitimately because you need nourishment, well things like cheese are good like Brawny said.

If it's one of those "I just have to eat something!" moments, then a pickle spear is a decent choice. Very few calories. A lot of salt, but as long as you don't go overboard that's usually no big deal.

Welcome aboard!

I can´t really vouch for it, but I hear people find fruit with a bit of (sugarfree) nut butter very satisfying. Apple with peanut butter, blueberries with cashew butter, that kind of stuff.

Hi Josey. I like having a few unsalted almonds as a snack or a small piece of cheese or beef jerky. Protein fills you up. It does depend on why you are snacking. If you are hungry then the above do the trick. Often a drink of water helps & that's all you really needed.

Hello everyone, thanks for all of the suggestions! Just a little update, I've lost 1.8kg this week and a total 3.3kg off my start weight :D I'm incredibly happy with what I've achieved so far! :)

~Well done Josey~
You're off to a good start :)
Thank you Cate! I did have a couple of slack days (mostly because of long days at work) but I stuck to my healthy eating and getting back on track today with working out :)

They are the keywords, Josey. That's the most important thing you can do :)
I felt a bit disappointed that I didn't do any exercising but I'm glad to read that, will help me in the future when I'm having a bad day, thank you Cate :D

No weight update until Sunday but today was a good day! The last few days I haven't been overly active as I got glass in my foot and it took so long to actually get the piece out so I got comfy on the couch, still remained true to my diet though :p

I suffer from social anxiety so I like to keep most physical activity inside on my treadmill or when I'm at work, but today I had my siblings over and they really wanted to go and kick the soccer ball, so I went down with them to supervise, then for the next 2 hours I was running and playing basketball with them out in public, which is a huge thing for me! I enjoyed it heaps and glad I've found another way to exercise that I have heaps of fun doing :)
I also stopped into my cousins place while walking the dog and he said "wow" straight away and could notice a big difference on my weight, happiness and how energetic I was which was a huge boost! :D

Isn't it really really cool when someone notices?
Nice job on stretching your comfort zone and being active.

It was a real confident boost, about mid - late week I always get concerned that I haven't done enough or eaten as well as I could've to shed the weight, but when I hear things like that it just pushes me out of that puddle and back on track.
