Jo's Journal

Today is friday weigh in,i weigh 192.2 gained 2 oz. :( I joined the april challenge, hopefully that will motivivate me to work harder. I also got my pedometer today, and finally i can see how much i am walking each day, and calories burned. I did 1 mile in 20 minutes and burned 149 calories. HOw cool is that? That was just a short walk with my dog, I'm going to hop on the treadmill in a few minutes. I'm going to challenge my pedometer now! lol

I've been doing good eating wise..ate salad (lettuce) today that i just don't care for, but it was the healthiest thing on the mcdonalds menu, along with a light lemonade only 5 calories, now that was really good!

I havn't had time for the tuna recipes today, hopefully this weekend.

Thats all for today..

Hey girl,
Getting that protein in would be good.

Do you count your calories? Do you use sites like or ?

It was a real eye opener just what was missing in my diet!

HI Deb,

Yes i use sparkpeople to count my calories. I have everything jotted down at home, a list of all the foods i eat, with its calories. I am a very picky picky eater, so i eat a lot of the same foods each day, and now i think i have almost everything memorized.
As of tomorrow, i am getting that protein in. I will make my tuna for the week, and heading to walmart for my protein bars. I will take the advice from RJ on the protein shakes he mentioned also.

Good Idea :)

I also eat Kashi Go Lean High Fiber High Protein with .5 cup nonfat milk and 1 small banana every morning.

i found some DELCICOUS protein bars!

they are called Pure protein, made by worldwide sport nutrition suppliments

the strawberry shortcake is BOMB!

Great :) Will try them too..

So for tomorrow's shopping list i have,

Protein shake - EAS 100% whey vanilla
Peanut butter south beach replacement bars
Pure protein by worldwide sport - strawberry shortcake
Kashi go lean high fiber high protein

Is this enough protein?;) How much protein should i have daily? I'm not sure if i should go by sparkpeoples protein goal, since their caloric intake for me came up to 1200-1550 and i have been told i should eat around 1600-1800 which for me is almost impossible.. I'm having such a hard time keeping my calories higher, i could barely get 1200 in.

One more question. I cant drink any other milk except for whole milk, i have tried 2% but i just cant getmyself to like it. Seems so watered down. Is it bad for me to drink whole milk? I only have 1/2 cup a day.

those are good for supplementation, and tasty snacks :) you should still try and have a majority of your protein come from natural food sources, these things will just help you meet those goals.

as far as intke... ive read so many different things. im shooting for the lower end of the threshold steve gave me, of 1 gram per lb of bodyweight

Do a google on "measuring stride length" and you'll see several sites to check out.

18 inches sounds very short, I don't know how tall you are, but I'm almost 5'9 and I think my stride length is 29" I'd have to look at my pedometer and I don't remember how to get to that number ;)

A standard rule of thumb is .413 x your height in inches.

My pedometer came with instructions where i had to walk 10 paces then measure and do some dividing, the run 10 paces and do the math...

I will say that the .413 x height in inches came pretty close to my stride length.

I do eat a lot of chicken, fish only tuna, which i will be adding in as of tomorrow.I also eat boiled egg whites, when you mention those have protein too.

1gram per body weight would be 192 grams for me.. spark people gave me this number 30-126

I am 5'6 and i did do the 10 steps and divided the total length inches by 10 at home, and came up with 18 in. but it was different when i actually went outside and started walking..wierd. I did the calculation you posted and i came up with 27in. that is a lot more than 18 :p

Thanks Deb

Came back from the store, but i couldn't everything i had on my list..

So i bought:

Kashi go lean high protein,fiber

Hey fellow spring flinger!
ur diary is a very interesting read.
Have u tried legumes & cottage cheese for the protein?
I cut the cheese into cubes, soak then in hot water for 10 mts. i then take it out, sqeeze out all the water. The texture is like that of a marshmallow! sprinkle some salt, cayenne peper & sqeeze some lime. Very tasty snack. u could also skewer it with pineapple & green pepper & lightly barbeque it for some yum shashlik!!:)

Hey Girl,
27" sounds like a reasonable stride length to me.

You can also plan out a specific walk at and get an exact reading on the distance, then walk it and compare to your pedometer.

BTW, Glad to see we're flinging together :D

Thanks Deb for that link, i will take a look at it in just a bit.

I dropped a few pounds today!

I am now down to 190.6 YAAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
