my first challenge

ok, my first challenge is tonight: Mardi Gras.. I don't want to drink I just want club soda... I need to rehearse that to myself!! :sifone:

Hi and welcome to the forum! This is a great place for support, I'm sure you'll like it here.
Don't let the alcohol tempt you!
Good Luck with your goals!
India

thank you!

Thanks so much, India!!! I wanna be able to look myself in the mirror for sure!!

((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

I am leading a wheat-free (well actually gluten free, that includes more than just wheat), lactose-free life since January 8th.
I have celiac disease and a possible lactose intolerance, that's why.
Do you have a reason for going wheat free? I have decided not to substitute mainly (because I read they are very high in calories and because they make me want the original more), but every now and then I will let myself have a gluten free, lactose free cake (I have my eye on one for this week, if I lose the weight I want to lose by sunday).
How are you going about it? Is it just for dietary purposes? I find it very hard and i get very sick when I have it, so I cannot imagine how difficult such a restricted diet must be for someone who does not react to gluten!
Well, anyhow, good luck, Camy

I have a reaction.. I get fat! LOL

my therapist cut out sugar flour wheat and alcohol and he lost so much weight and kept it off, he hasnt gained or lost an ounce since he hit his goal weight. I did try this before and I lost a TON of weight,

I guess im addicted to those substances, when I dont have them, I feel great, my mind is clearer and I lose weight....

Hey, welcome to the forum! I have a hard time not having at least one drink when out with friends too! My fiance and I have decided no more drinking, it's slowing our weight loss goals!

The diet seems kind of atkins inspired. Is your therapist not eating sugar, flour, wheat or alcohol still?

well, I did order a drink! vodka and cranberry, then my friend ordered me another just cranberry, then we both had a coke (that she bought)! I asked her to help me... I guess im just a pushover...why cant I say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO??????????

and yes, my therapist will follow that food plan for the rest of his life, but hes allowed rice and potatoes now that he is at his goal weight, he also does not have any caffeine!

ok, had my snack: plain yogurt and blueberries

hopped on the scale cause i'm obsessive compulsive! less 2 pounds than this morning, but I know not to get excited cause my water weight fluctuates like CRAZY...maybe dancing helps? haha!

but ill log it in anyways :)

note to self

ok, Jill....remember how FAT you felt out tonight....

how you wish you felt better about your weight

how you hated to look yourself in the mirror, but forced yourself to anyways

GOAL: be able to like what I see when I look into the mirror

woke up at 211.6.... im sure im gonna shed the gallons of extra water stored in my body..which is okay, right?

exercised for 20 minutes this am, and danced last night! Working on at least 20 minute per day...preferably first thing in the am, get it over with! NO EXCUSES!

Breakfast:
one fried egg (okay I could make that healthier!)
bowl of plain yogurt with blueberries (darned yogurt had SUGAR in it! How dare they!!) ate it anyways cause thats all I have....

had a snack after lunch (blueberries and yogurt), not really hungry though...ate it anyways...got a letter from child support.. I don't even GET child support now that my kids live with their Dad (

stress=trigger

snack #2 eek! ate 3/4 of the blueberry yoplait yogurt I fed the baby!

I signed up for fitday.com, see if i can analyze what im eating...

I still have dinner yet to eat and Im at:

1314 calories
55 grams of fat
121 carbs
86 grams of protein

I want to create goals I'm a thinking!

I found this on the government website:

Daily Reference Values (DRVs)
(Based on 2,000 calories a day for adults and children over 4 only)
Food Component DRV
fat 65 grams (g)
saturated fatty acids 20 g
cholesterol 300 milligrams (mg)
total carbohydrate 300 g
fiber 25 g
sodium 2,400 mg
potassium 3,500 mg
protein** 50 g

according to this, im over on my protein and under on my fiber for today

wow! fitday.com has so many cool graphs and charts!!!

I need more of these things, it says:
sodium
fat
pottassium
fiber
magnesium
iron
vitamin d, e, k, c, b-12
thiamin
folate

off to research foods that will fit the bill!

ok, dinner

2 eggs
cup broccoli
cup spinach

im soooooooooooo full!!! (probably was all that yogurt!!)

fitday still says im low on vitamin d and thiamin!! eek I popped a multivitamin!!

I cant believe I posted FAT pictures of myself for the challenge...how embarrassing!!

Hi Jill,
I find it very hard to stay on a diet that forbids certain foods. I think that's one of the reasons why I always failed in my previous weight loss attempts. Now I tell myself that I can eat any kind of food I want, as long as it's in moderation. That's what people who don't have weight problems do. You see thin people eating ice cream, you just don't see them eating the whole container of it in one sitting (like I used to be guilty of doing :D). I've tried the low-carb diets, and frankly, I just can't stay on them long term. I'm pretty sure it's psychological. I always want what I can't have. :)

Anyway, I'm telling you all this b/c I don't want you to get down on yourself if you can't stick to the no wheat/sugar etc thing. Besides that, whole grains are good for you (as long as you don't have wheat allergies). I have this bread that has 6g of fiber in one slice. It's excellent stuff.

Those RDA's that you posted, are just a guide. The sodium should be under 2500mg per day. Frankly, for one trying to lose weight, you should eat more protein--1g of it for every half pound of your weight. So about 105-6g per day for you. I also use fitday, and try to keep my fats, protein and carbs about equal. Protein helps you maintain muscle and keeps you full. If you don't get enough protein (and do strength training), you'll lose more muscle than if you do. And muscle makes you look toned. It also elevates your metabolism.

At your weight, you should be eating more than 1300 calories per day. I weigh about 10lbs more than you, and I eat between 1500-1800 a day--and I lose weight. Eating such a low amount of calories will slow down your metabolism over time. It is also hard to keep up, and will most likely result in a binge out of hunger. 1500-1800 calories is a reasonable level that most people can maintain over a long period of time.

I think a lot of us with weight problems struggle with self-esteem issues as well. Just keep in mind that it's not all about how you look in the mirror. What's on the inside is far more important. :)

Best wishes for your weight loss endeavors. :)

I just wanted to add that I think you look great in your avi--nice pic. :)

thank you soooooooooooo much! that was a non water retention day!

I swear, if I eat the wrong food, I swell up like 15 pounds!! its a pain in the butt!!

I wish I knew what those wrong foods were!!

(((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

I hate my belly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you must be taller than me, im only 5'2... UGH
