Jess - The road to happiness and health :)

hope your feeling better soon, well done feeling the difference in your clothes.
Thanks so much, yep feeling the difference in my jeans is way more exciting than the scale for me, because it makes it feel real!

Today I am wearing a pair of 16 jeans again :) mind you they are stretch, but still :) :) :)
I can't wait to throw out the 18's!

Yeah, scales are notoriously poor judges of character especially when you are exercising regularly now. The clothing fuit is a better measuring device sometimes.

Just saying Hi!

Hi Cabbie :) yeah, definitely!

I've been a tad slack with my updating in here sorry, busy week!
Everything's great, still no slip ups, and the more I keep going the better I feel.

Yesterday and the day before were the same in food intake.
Breakfast - Big apple and 4 walnuts
Lunch - Wholegrain wrap with cos lettuce, chicken, cherry tomatoes, red onion and cucumber. Chicken just cooked with a splash of teryaki marinade, no oil or anything.
Dinner - Bowl of veggie soup and 1 boiled egg.

I'm a machine!!! Lol

For exercise yesterday I worked with my mate (she owns an organic cleaning business) and did 6 hours of solid cleaning. Hope that counts! It was bloody hard work, but I had a great time.

The day before it was pouring all day so I hit the Wii Fit and did 30mins of step and then some other muscle exercises.

Has anyone tried the kettleball workout DVD (think it's by The Firm). I saw it in Big W the other day, it looks cool and you get the kettleball thing with it. I also borrowed a Jillian Michaels DVD from the library and hubby copied it for me. I need more options for when it's a lousy day outside!

Once christmas is over, I'm going to join Curves I think - just can't afford it right now.

I haven't done a kettleball workout but they look pretty good. I think chubbygirl (Lisa) does them, you could ask her?

Sounds like you're having a great week. I can't wait to go down to 16, I was just maxing out size 18 jeans when I started back here.

Good on you!

Thanks Anna :)
Yesterday was an awful day of mental turmoil. Really my hardest day since jumping on the wagon. I didn't bust or anything, but came so close.
I cooked the kids and hubby an awesome baked dinner and I REALLY wanted to hoe in. It was rediculous, I was kind of even having a bit of a panic attack about it.
Will I? Won't I? I was messed up the whole time I was cooking, but ended up not giving in.
I thought I had a handle on my cravings by now, but realise I probably never will :( but I knew that inside anyway... We all do I guess...

So the only extra thing I had was a few extra walnuts (raw) and a small bowl of sugar free fat free jelly.

On a better note, today's been a good day but no exercise.

Weigh in is in the morning. Wish me luck! I'm hoping for another kilo, but I don't know if it's going to happen.

good luck on the weigh in! Kettlebell workouts are intense! There was a lady on here a while back who used to do them regularly, she swore by them.

Hi Jess! Sounds like you are zipping right along! You are losing a kilo a week? Is that a little over 2 lbs a week (sorry, American here)? Many resources say that that's on the upper end of the safe amount to lose per week, but just a personal note of caution.... When I started losing I was dropping 2 lbs a week (sometimes more) and was not getting enough calories, especially from protein. As a result half my hair has fallen out! I've made corrections to my diet to increase my calorie intake and up my protein, so now my hair if finally starting to grow back. But once the damage is done there isn't anything you can do about it except wait for it to grow back.

I highly recommend reading thru the nutrition part of this site - all the stickies have some GREAT information in them. I also recommend figuring out really how many calories you used to eat in a typical day before you started your weight loss journey, and how many you are eating now. It can be real eye opening information! Also, if you start tracking calories, you get to the point where you kind of know what your budget is for the day and can make informed choices that allow you to stick to a healthy way of eating most of the time. If most days you eat foods from all the food groups and are within your calorie range you know that on special occassions you can have stuff like the the baked dinner you made for your family. Just measure out a portion size that allows you to stick within your calorie budget for the day. Maybe you have to give up something else during the day in order to have that, but in the end make it all balance out. I think if we completely deny ourselves the foods we really enjoy we'll fail at sticking to making healthy food choices and will gain the weight back.

Good luck to you! And hope you are feeling well again soon!

I'm proud of you for not breaking over that dinner, Jess! I caved in yesterday at Wing Stop with my friend. We both ate 10 wings and half a pound of potato salad. LOL. But luckily that was pretty much all I ate yesterday.

You're doing fantastic, keep it up. You WILL get a handle on your cravings after a while so don't stress.

So I weighed in... another 1.5 down! OH BABY!!! Man I was so nervous for nothing!

Thanks so much for your comments! I really appreciate you all stopping in and reading.
Lol thanks Day, it was funny now looking back... Potato salad used to be one of my FAVOURITE things ever. Every Christmas Mum used to make this wicked batch of it and I reckon I used to eat most of it!!!

Thanks Cabbie, yeah the woman on the package of the kettleball thing looks like a female Arnold Schwarzenegger!!! :sifone:

Hey Tigpuppy - I didn't realise that a lack of protein could do that! I've actually started really trying to eat protein. I've given up being vegetarian for the greater good of a balanced diet. I'm now eating chicken breast and the leanest steak I can find at the butcher. I'm incorporating it into my stirfries. It's still early days though :) I tried eating boiled eggs, but I have to give that away, they just revolt me and I had to hold my nose while chewing them. The last one I had made me heave though, so guess they're not for me :ack2:

I bought some low fat cottage cheese yesterday as I read it is also high in protein, and am happy about that, because I love it.
I know the baked dinner wouldn't have killed me, it was more knowing I'd end up eating a massive lot of oily potatoes etc. Hidden inside is still that 'all or nothing' mentality that I really hate about myself.

It's hard to gauge how many calories I used to eat in a day because I would load up on junk food one (well more like 6 in a row) day then have barely anything the next one or two to 'make up' for it. I'm trying to just get stability and regularity happening, so my body hopefully gets back to a normal pattern. I'll try and do the calorie counting!!!

Yesterday:
Breakfast - 250ml light soy milk and a big banana.
Lunch - Meat and veggie stirfry with brown rice (soy, ginger and sesame marinade).
Dinner - 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese and a salad with 1 slice of grainy wholemeal bread.
Snacks through the day - Some raw almonds and walnuts and a handful of black grapes.
I think that's about 1100 calories but will try and be more acurate today.

Big sigh of relief and sorry for the gargantuan post!!

Low fat or fat free cottage cheese is an absolute staple food for me. 14 g of protein for 1/2 cup means i can fit it into my system and get a lot of good from it.

Hi, I keep seeing you in different threads so thought I'd come over and say hi and read your diary.
What Tig says makes a lot of sense so I'm glad that you are trying to eat a bit more protein. Have you tried scrambled egg, poached egg or frying with just a fine spray of oil? You may find it easier to eat than boiled eggs. Low fat, no sugar yoghurt is also a good form of protein with out giving you too many calories.
Congrats on your weight loss so far.
Val

Hey Jess. I think I was the same way. One day 1000 calories then 5000 the next. To sum up my old diet in one word: chaos. Dieting is basically the exact opposite and really isn't hard for me. Figuring out what I should be eating to maintain my weight has been the biggest challenge and has been what caused me to gain back all the weight I lost a few years ago. We will get there!

I will say that keeping accurate tabs on your calorie intake each day is a great tool especially in the beginning of a diet. I keep a google spreadsheet saved in my gmail account to keep track of what I eat each day so I can update it from home or the office. So far, it's keeping me in line.

Thank you so much to everyone for reading and posting, you guys really help me want to keep the ball rolling. I really appreciate all your tips and encouragement xx

Some more good news here, this morning I put on a pair of jeans I bought a year ago but were too small for me. They're perfect! So chuffed, I didn't even have to shop and I scored a brand new pair of black jeans :) They're 16 rigid denim. No stretch!!! I can't believe how much 5 kilos off has made a difference... must have all come off my arse lol.

Here's the food for today.
Brekky - Large banana and 1 slice of grainy wholemeal bread.
Snack - 8 raw almonds.
Lunch - Veggie and beef stirfry with brown rice and marinade.
Snack - Medium apple.
Dinner - Pumpkin soup (healthy version, no cream) and 4 Vita Wheat crackers.
Snack - 6 raw walnuts.

Think that's about 1200. I'll have half a cup of cottage cheese later if I can.

So happy. Even my burlap (that's what my son calls my double chin) seems smaller!

I don't understand why you are so nervous about stepping on those scales. You're having half your daily recommended calorie intake. Of course you aren't going to put weight on.

So far my biggest excitement has come from putting on a pair of pants that I had to hide away for a while and realizing they fit again... so congratulations on the "brand new" jeans! :) And why have I not bought any cottage cheese, I love that stuff, haha.

Good job so far, looking forward to reading more about your continued success!

It's great when you can fit into smaller clothes. I'm really annoyed with myself because I threw out all my smaller clothes a few months before I started to lose weight as I thought that I would never be able to fit into them.
