Jericho's Potter/Disney World trip challenge/diary

Amy and I have decided to head to Universal Studios and Walt Disney World Nov 22-28th over Thanksgiving. I think it is a perfect goal date to really push. The main reason is the picture attached to this. Those are the new Harry Potter ride seats. There is no way in hell I can get in those right now. I really want to check out this new attraction when we go so I have to push hard. This last month and half or so had been slow to null weight loss. This is JUST what I need to push me forward. Friday I'll be getting the EA Active for the Wii to add some exercise and I'm cranking down on diet.

So here we are. Starting tomorrow, I will weigh myself every day and make a diary entry. There is 154 days till we leave. That is roughly 22 weeks. I plan to aim for 2 pounds a week. I hope to do more but let's figure that as the average. That is 44 pounds.

GOAL: 320 pounds by November 22

I might not make it into the ride seat but I will make it to that number. So starting tomorrow, we really begin. I look for pushing my big butt along on this goal.

:D:D

I really like this goal a lot!
You sound really determined, so I'm sure you'll make it!
How fun to go to Disneyworld, and that Harry Potter ride!!... :D
Best of luck to you~

Great incentive. Orlando is may absolute favourite place in the world and I would be gutted if I couldn't get into the seats for the rides. I hope you manage it. I can't afford to go at the moment but would love to see the new Happy Potter land. It was being built last time we went.

This is a great goal! My family and I have decided to take a March trip to Disney World and I am so checking out this ride. I need to crank down, so that I can be sexy body ready by then because I plan on doing as many water rides as possible, and as comfortable as I can. You have a lot of knowledge that I am sure came from lots and lots of research, so you already know what you have to do, so do IT!

Day 1

Day 1 weight....um.

Ok this is a bad omen. I woke, showered and went to get my first weight and the batteries are dead in the scale. It uses those large watch batteries so I couldn't just slip some in. I'll have to wait till Friday. I know my last weight was like 363/364 so If I can get into the 362/361 range on Friday I'll be happy.

First thing I did was left my ATM card in my car so I couldn't buy anything extra today for lunch. I have what I have and that's it. I'm in a good mood.

DAILY MODIVATIONAL STORY/TIP: Ok, did you know I worked for Walt Disney World twice? Yup, the first was custodial in 1999 at Epcot for the Electric Umbrella. The second was before I went to Iraq in ..gees was it 2004? Anyways that was as a boat captain for Living with the Land. Now they use a pre-recorded speil but not too long ago, a captain would stand on the boat and give a speil about all the different veggies and stuff in the greenhouses. This was a huge thing for me cause I have a bit of a speech problem. Most people just assume I'm from up in New York or Boston so I let them think that. It was a big self esteem boost for me to give these speeches to guests. It was almost my favorite part. My favorite part easily was making people happy. I am lucky, I tend to go all the time but other people save up for years to go. How often do you remember a bad server or someone with a bad attitude on your vacation? My goal was to make sure I was never that person. I have so many good memories.

Day Two

Current weight: 360.8

Yes, I managed to get the scale working again. I just popped the batteries in and out. I'll still need to get some new ones but this will due for now. It listed weight is a great surprise since I was working on getting back down to that 40 pound loss point. That is the past and this is now! So we have a starting point. I'm updating my ticker for this goal but I'm very happy to see that as the starting weight. Here's to aiming for 358 by this time next week.!

DAILY TIP/STORY: Heck, this one is just about seeing that weight after being back up around 367.

Great start bud! Looking forward to 21 weeks from now when you reach your goal! (You're already 2 weeks ahead with that loss!)

Keep up the good work!

DAY 3

WEIGHT: 361.8

Yeah sure, it went up but there is always a flux day to day. This is why you really pay attention more week to week than everyday. That is why the ticker won't be updated except every seven days.

So I got the EA Active for the Wii. I got about 15-20 minutes into the first day's program before I had to stop. Oh this is not going to be easy that's for sure lol. Amy was worried cause some of the exercise involves jumping a bit. She is worried about my knees with the impact of landing but I think I'll be fine. To make her feel better, I'm going to see about removing those.

DAILY MODIVATIONAL TIP/STORY: After what has been going on the last few days in the forum, the tip is to try and stay supportive and helpful instead of taking on a more 'slapping the hand with the ruler' style.

I agree with you there. I have seen some people taking quite a bit of a bashing from other members and for people that are already usually pretty low in self esteem, I don't think it helps.

I've got that but haven't even tried it yet. Let us know what you think once you get into it properly.

Yikes! those are some pretty tiny seats! Guess I have some work to do before planning a trip to disney. I was 350lbs the first time I went in 2002 and was able to ride everything there was at the time. Sure, space mountain was a little cramped, but I made it in.

I'm motivated for similar reasons as you jericho. I live not too far from Cedar Point, and all the best roller coasters have the tiniest f-ing seat belts imagineable. Even if you fit in the seat and the bar fits over your leg in your lap, they don't let you ride if you can't hook the seat belt and pull at least an inch of slack back from the buckle. I don't know why they can't just use bigger seat belts, but I guess this is their way of discriminating against fat people. I was able to ride them once at 280, but I have heard they shortened up the belts even a little bit more since then.

Good luck with your goal! I know what it feels like to be kicked off a ride for being too big, and its not a good feeling. It was the lowest point of my life. Its the reason I haven't even gone back to cedar point to ride other rides since I put all the weight back on. I don't wish that experience on anyone.

I can still pretty much ride everything at Disney but that new Potter right is tiny. I still don't know if I can ride it even if I do get to my goal, but it sure is worth it.

I sooo want to do Ceder Point. I'm a roller coaster nut. Maybe that will be a second level goal once I get this one down.

Roller coasters are my favorite. The millenium force and the top thrill dragster are the 2 with the tiny belts. They're also the 2 tallest and fastest in the park. The new one "Maverick" was designed by the same company as the MF and TTD, but it is said to have much more room. I'm still afraid to even go try until I lose weight. I was able to ride all the other coasters @~330-350lbs the first time I went, although some were a very tight fit. Also, Kennywood in pittsburgh just build a ride like TTD in cedar point, only I believe it might even be taller. Same company designed it though, so if its anything like cedar point, I'd have to expect tiny belts there as well.

But yeah, roller coasters are my motivation right now. Not only because I like them, but if my wife and I have kids someday, I want to be able to take them on the rides. I know I never would have got on my first big roller coaster when I did as a kid had I not had my dad on the ride with me. I don't want my future kids to miss out because of my weight problems.

There is a new one near me called the Intimidator (NASCAR themed) that wasn't an overhead support. It was this forward sliding bar. I thought I would have been good and nothing.

It was so disheartening, I had Amy leave with me after less than an hour in the park, so pretty much paying 85 bucks for nothing.

Man I know exactly how you feel. Same thing happened to me my first year in college, when the millenium force was still new, and also the first time I went to cedar point. They didn't have the seat to try before you got in line, so me and a couple new friends I had met within the last couple weeks waited in line for 3 hours only to find I couldn't ride it. I sat in the seat, and then got kicked off and watched my friends roll out to enjoy the ride. haha the only reason they were even in line with me is because I wanted to ride, they didn't really care about it, but didn't want to ditch me. I was devastated and seemed pretty much intent on making the rest of my day miserable - it was a bus trip so I couldn't just leave. But a couple new friends became great friends that day, they were supportive and cheered me up, and even decided to go ride the zipline skycoaster freefall ride to cheer me up.

Next year and nearly 100lbs lost, I got my redemption by being able to ride whatever I wanted. But I lost all my progress since then and now I'm working to get back. I keep telling myself, I at least know I got to ride them once... but I'm not content with that anymore. I want to ride them again!

By the way, looked up the intimidator and it looks like loads of fun!

Great goal idea Jericho!

They do look pretty tiny.

I am going to do new annual passes to Universal soon, so maybe I can give you some realistic feedback on how big the seats are? I don't know for sure, but I have seen some guys way bigger than you squeeze their butt into some pretty tiny rides!

Oh yea, FYI, living with the land is like one of my favorite rides at disney because, well, I'm a huge geek.
We go every year for my birthday and my friends still joke cause they know I gotta go on "that plant ride". LoL
And I don't know if you have been on it lately, but so not as good as it used to be...
They don't even shoot the hippo on the jungle cruise anymore!!!
For shame Disney. For shame.

heh I go all the time and Living with the Land isn't as good without boat captains..Least I can take some pride that I got to explain to some people about Jackfruit and the fact that Bananas grows from herbs.

DAY 4: 363.8

Ok, no need to get nervous here. Last night, Amy and I got drug to Outback steakhouse (2 frigging hours away from me after working all day and being up since 4:44 am..I'm tired!) to be there for my niece's birthday. I managed to stay away from the bread. I did get a small order of the seared ahi tuna. Dinner was the 6 oz steak with grilled shrimp (from what I could find, it was about 630 calories) with no sided. Even with that, I'm pretty sure I got a good shot of salt. I'll worry some if tomorrow I'm still going higher.

DAILY TIP/MODIVATION STORY: If you have a smartphone, use the web browsing to look up the calories in what you might order. I used the Outback site to find what I could eat and what I should stay far from. (I love coconut shrimp but one look at the calorie count kept me from touching that stuff)
