Jason's Diary

Points: 48 of 300

Not much to update. Today's routine was elliptical again and went by quickly. I am really enjoying listening to Dune on my 'Pod while working out.

Yesterday for dinner I made a nice pasta dish with tofu and vegetables. I cubed and soaked the tofu in a bit of soy sauce with several shots of hot sauce, let that sit for a while, and then put it on a non-stick mat on a cookie sheet at 350ºF for about 45 minutes. I boiled up some noodles, put a little olive oil on them with a little canned corn, slided tomato and mushrooms, put the tofu on there. Good stuff!

Tonight I might go to the store to get some chili stuff and soak beans overnight tonight to make some chili from scratch tomorrow.

Elliptical again. Nothing new to update on that.

I made my chili tonight. I am not sure what I did wrong with the beans, but they were not cooked through. I soaked them for nearly eight hours, boiled them a bit, drained and added chili ingredients. One of the stupid things I did was taste one of the beans while I had capsaicin on my fingers. Oops.

Last night I watched The Right Stuff. If you have any interest in NASA, the 1960's Space Race, or the like, I recommend the movie. It is a little over three hours long, but is worth it.

Good job on getting the exercise in! Golly that's hard to motivate for, but you do great! Can't help much with the chili problems as I have never actually made it before. I'm sure you'll figure it out, though.

Thanks, RP. I hope your knee is doing alright!

Today makes seven days in a row at the gym. They updated the bracket for points again (as of end-of-day yesterday) and I am in first place by one point. I was looking at the board while the trainer was updating and someone else was talking with her about it. They said something to the effect of "Sheila has a lot of points -- but so does this Jason." so I stepped in with "That's me". I am not a regular during the day there, so many of the people do not know who I am (which I think is a good thing) and we chatted for just a minute. It turns out this Shiela person is 73 years old and spends three hours a day at the gym. My biggest challenge is someone who is 48 years older than I am. Maybe with today's snow (the roads suck today!) she will not make it in and I will get a day or two advantage over her.

You know... I bet I can make it to 400 points by the end of March. I am not going to hold myself to it and I may not even think about it until I hit 300, but we will see.

Tonight I am going to make cornbread to go along with the chili at work for lunches this week. Yum!

Sheila got 12 points yesterday. With my extra push today for eleven, we are tied as of tonight. If I get twenty-one points between the next two days, I could get my shirt Thursday night.

I almost forgot to post tonight. I pushed hard tonight to get those 11 points. I need to get 10 more so I can have my first goal marked before the weekend. Also, I am not going to be able to catch Sheila unless she misses a day. I swear, I am not obsessing...

Oh, yeah! I am a third of the way there. They had a sample shirt on the sign-up/points-update table (white ringer t-shirt with blue accents), but did not have any for me. Dang. For those of you playing along at home, Sheila must have missed yesterday. I am now up by seven points.

Maybe tonight I will try to be in bed by 11:00PM so I can get up at 6:00AM and not be super tired still. I am indeed ready for the weekend.

-J

Thanks, RP! :)

Today was weigh-in day and I was looking forward to it. I stepped on the scale and it landed on... [drumroll]... 250# exactly. WTF? I have surely been eating enough for all that exercise to burn off, but I have not been eating all that healthy. Maybe that is my problem.

I will keep truckin'. In December I was stuck at 255# for the whole month and then dropped about 5# in two weeks.

Bah. I wanted to be on the road to work five minutes ago and I still have to scrape my windows.

I am tired. I am going to have a beer, watch Mythbusters, and then go to bed. I am so ready to sleep in tomorrow.

For everyone that thought I missed going to the gym yesterday, you can relax. I did go, but neglected to post here. In all reality, I am sure nobody even noticed. I realized the error of my ways when I was trying to fall asleep last night, but did not find it important enough to wake myself.

Tonight for dinner I made a fantastic vegetable stew. Someone at work recommended it and it was great! Olive oil, garlic, onion, bay leaf (sweated/simmered), potatoes, eggplant, zucchini, red pepper (stew for a bit), fire-roasted tomatoes, vegetable stock/broth (stew a little more), and basil. Serve with broiled cheese-bread. Oh, man! I am going to make that and variations of it all the time! Tonight was the first time I used the saucier my parents gave me months ago. It is a great piece of cookware.

Oh, I noticed. I'm watching you. Do good. Or else. :D

Re: weight loss, slow and steady or quick and hard, it's the same amount of work. It's just a matter of what's sustainable for you. If you're having difficulties trouble shooting your fat loss, though, let me know and I will be more than happy to help you figure it out.

This makes it 14 days in a row, which is officially my record. I got my shirt and wore it today. I need to really bump up the resistance starting tomorrow. If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm.

Last night I did my entire elliptical routine backwards and bumped up the resistance two more points. For how much harder it was to pedal and how much slower I was going, I was surprised I hit the same 1000 mark at about 54 minutes again.

Tonight we get to leave work a couple hours early to go to a little shindig. I am hoping I can go to the gym right after that -- but might end up missing tonight. We will see.

-J

supposedly going backwards works completely a completely different set of muscles - so well done on that...

have fun shindigging :)

Thanks, Mal. Shindig was fun. I did not get selected to go on the company trip, although I was in the running. There is next year and right now I am in the mindset to bust my ass to get in the running again and go. I have big plans for 2008 and I hope I am on the right path to hit some of them.

I think tomorrow (which is questionable because I might have to work on a release tomorrow night) and Friday I will continue elliptical. Saturday I am going to do some weights and cardio. By now I am way past the "if you push this hard, you will feel regrettably sore" phase and can throw some more on my routine when I have time.

I so very much have cabin fever. I also want to do some major spring cleaning.

Points: 193 of 300

Yesterday I did my normal 10-point elliptical jaunt. Today I did 2 points worth of weight-lifting with my legs and another 10-points with elliptical. But wait, you say, that is only 22 points! How did you get to 193? Well, my curious friend, for some reason a number of days ago, the pointkeeper added an extra point to my score on the bracket that keep a tally and my hints at the undeserved point (I wrote the amount of points I should have had right on the submission slip) have been ignored, so I am going to take that point and count it as my own.

Tomorrow I am going to do a 2-point upper body weight-lifting routine. Two points of weight-lifting is 30 minutes with 1-3 minutes between sets. Four points for that duration with no breaks; one point if you dick around and take your time. It is all self-regulated and self-decided anyway. It is not the problem of the gym if you say you get 50 points per week and see no change.

Anyway. I should find dinner.

I did my upper-body routine today. Bench press, seated fly, crossover (which is a name I made up because I do not know what it is called), and inclined situp.

Tomorrow I have to get up early and go take a test for designation I am trying to earn for work, but hopefully I can get to the gym again. Tomorrow is just cardio again. Hopefully I can hit 1000 calories in under 50 minutes again. I think I am going with a three day routine of straight cardio, lower body and cardio, and upper body and cardio. I am surely increasing my endurance already.

Oh, and today was day 20 in a row at burning 1000 calories per day. I sure hope to hit my goal of 240# by February 29. Maybe if I get that (or close), I can try for 225# by August 1, which is 3# per month.

I am so sore. I think I need a day off from the gym, but will decide that tomorrow.

Today I passed my test for work today. One more and I have the designation. That will be a couple months from now.

G'night.
