James' Diary *ANY TIP WELCOMED!!!!**Updated 6/16/07*

Hey all, I'm new to the sit and well I've been trying to lose weight forever. The name is James by the way. From what I can remember, last time I can remember being skinny was about 11, I'd always play with all my friends down at Parlin St. then slowly, one by one, they moved away and I slowly gained weight.
I tried so many times to lose weight, but I couldn't. Atleast everytime I tried, it got a little better.

Now I'm 16 and REALLLLY SICK OF IT, I've been so sick at about age 15 that I tried pro buelemia and what not. Worked for a bit and then dropped it.
My last serious diet, I lost 15 LBS! People noticed! but something happened and I gained it all back.

Since summer vacation started, I was so sick of it again that I went back to pro-bulemia and I lost 10 LBS, then I read up more on it and slowly read the deadly facts on it.. I didn't want to do it anymore and went on a real diet the next day. June 14th

Age: 16
Height: 6'1 or 6'2
Weight: 259 LBS
Sex: Male

Now I'm back and really going to finish this. Hell I bet there will be no cheat days.

June 14th

Day one of my diet, I weigh 260 LBS.
I've lost 10 LBS thru nasty habits if you read up top but stopped them.
I forgot to set up my alarm clock, so I didn't get to do anything in
the morning

Weight: 260 LBS

Food:
Morning: -Not awake-
Afternoon: 2 Slices of brown bread, 3 Slices of clean turkey,
Teaspoon of relish, and a Bannana.
Evening: 3 Slices of clean turkey, 2 spears of dill pickles.

Exercise:
Morning: -Not awake-
Afternoon: 45 mins of lifting weights and running/walking
on a tredmill
Evening: 30 mins of situps, curl ups, push ups


Total Cals: 661 -Too low-

I was getting really full after eating, and didn't wany anymore. It must
of been from the buelimic things I did.
 
June 15th

Day two of my diet, Another day on the diet is a good day. =]

Weight: 259! -WoooHooo-

Food:
Morning: 1 1/2 Corn on a cob, 1 Slice of toasted Brown bread, Apple.
Afternoon: 1 Corn on a cob, Bannana, 12 Strawberries
Evening: Pack of No water added tuna, 4 spears of pickles, Dietry Green
Tea.

Exercise:
Morning: 45 mins of walking around outside
Afternoon: 45 mins of lifting weights and running/walking
on a tredmill
Evening: 30 mins of situps, curl ups, push ups

Total Cals: About 1,300

Waking up in the morning and going out to walk wasn't bad at all
except when I came home to shower I had a hard time staying awake
and breathing, I was getting really light headed. I sat down in the shower
till everything was alright. Then I ate. after eating the corn, it was
so hard to eat anymore, I was completely stuffed! but I had to..under 1,200
and I enter starvation mode. The rest of the day was complete smooth
sailing.

I'll update tommorow, in the evening. =]

Seems like you've been doing a lot of exercising, very cool. Keep it up.
And I'm glad you've been staying away from bulemia. I know how it's so tempting sometimes especially after a big meal.

I'm glad you moved away from the bulimia. I've seen it do really horrible things to a close friend in high school. You look like you have been putting in the time and effort into the exercise and you'll see results soon. Keep up the good work.

June 16th

Day Three of my diet!

Weight: 256.5 LBS

Food:
Morning: -Not awake-*Late nights with my girlfriend on weekends..xD*
Afternoon: Cereal (2 cups of corn flakes, 2 cups of Soymilk [[SOYMILK TASTE AWESOME!]] Peach.
Evening: Pack of water only added tuna, Peach, Lettuce, Slice of TUFO Cheese(NEVER EATING TUFO CHEESE AGAIN! >.<)

Exercise:
Morning: -Not awake-[[as explained above =P]]
Afternoon: 45 mins of lifting weights and running/walking
on a tredmill
Evening: 30 mins of situps, curl ups, push ups, stretching


Total Cals: 635 -Too low?-

Well I was really up late with my girl last night, it's always like this on the weekends. I'm not complaining, love the girl..11 months.
So then I woke up...2:30 PM ..yeah..I was up late. Took a shower and went straight to my afternoon work out, did that and just went home and ate. Played xbox live till evening work out and now I'm here. Nothing exciting. My bro went jumping off a cliff, my dad and other brother went fishing.


Cosmonaut: Awww shucks, no I aint. I remember sitting at a peer group in school for health class. The woman asked us all if we had a girlfriend, I said no, she said awwww why not. Some girl replied for me, cause he looks so damn mean. xD.
Heh, yeah it's uhm..tough I guess to go from bulemia to a real diet. and VERY tempting, not anymore though.

Yeah, I'm glad I moved away too! :D. Yea I was looking into the dangers and everything on it so I changed my mind. Yea putting a lot of exercise, starting to hurt my muscles. Thanks a lot Jenna

Yay! Day four!

Weight: 256 LBS. Basically the same

Food:
Morning: The girlfriend was so sleepy last night, so i got my sleep. Cereal (2 cups corn flakes, 2 cups soy milk) peach, water
Afternoon: 2 Slices whole wheat bread, 3 slices turkey, relish, pickles, water
Evening: Frozen Fruit bar (Yum :D!), peach, canned soup, cereal (1 cup corn flakes, 1 cup soymilk)

Exercise:
Morning: Stretched, then 45 min walk
Afternoon: a lot of moving my legs, tredmill, climber thingy, bike thingy, my arms hurt so bad, i must of damaged them from lifting weights, 45 mins
Evening: Sit ups, some push ups, stretching, running in place. 30 mins


Well, last night the girl was really sleepy so i got my rest and could wake up early to start my stretch and walk. then ate and stuff. my arms hurt so bad! I can't lift them w/o a grunt..well I can now but it still annoys me. I added bengay twice to them so I guess I'll do it tonight again before bed. I also took a lot of advil pain realiver :D. Played xbox live after breakfast until it was afternoon workout, these mexicans kept staring at me while I was working out...I was kinda thinking in my head..hey how about you come in here and lose some weight..they wern't in better shape then I was -.-. Went home after that and played some more xbox live! xD and some ddr.

I couldn't enjoy fathers day with my dad, they went to a chinese restrauaunt. and well, I'm on a diet. Sure I could eat the fruits/vegatable/sushi, but then I'll be stared upon my family because I usally eat fried chicken omg not even gonna talk about it..getting me to crave for it.

I hope you all had a nice fathers day and remember I'm always open to suggestions, I'm not diet expert.

When I finally lose all this junk, I'm gonna be like :jump: >///<. Oh I also found out I'm moving back to philly during summer vacation, near the end of it, so when I come back all my friends can see I lost weight! I'm so excited n.n

but after like what a week of not going to the bathroom (other than unrinate, shower, clip nails, brush teeth, shave, check weight) you know what I'm talking about..using the toilet.
I think it's that bulemia that messed up my metabalism, but a good sign has struck in the bathroom this morning! haha omg xD.
Has anyone this been excited about taking a crap?:jump:
 
ewwwwww. good god tmi but damn you are funny!! lol. I enjoyed reading your posts!!! Congratulations on the success you have had!! Your workouts and food look really great and I am impressed how you didn't indulge in the father's day feast!! You are doing well!!! For food I am partial to snack bars... right now I am in love with South Beach 140 calorie protein bars!!!! I was just looking at a site on Oprah that has some good snack ideas too. Snacking is what gets me!!!
I think there are some menus in there too but I didn't get that far:p lol.
Congrats again on your non-bulemic success!!! wooo hooo!
 
Woot, Woot! Day Five, it's been five already?

Weight: 256 LBS. Not budging..>.<

Food:
Morning: Cereal (2 cups corn flakes, 2 cups soymilk) it never gets old, water
Afternoon: Some lettuce/carrots chopped up and wrapped in some sort of dough, not 2 healthy and no calorie count, I ate three and their small 2, so I guess 200 cals?, tuna, bologna
Evening: 2 slices of whole wheat bread, 3 slices turkey, tuna, dish of lettuce.

Exercise:
Morning: Stretched, then 45 min walk
Afternoon: My arms are feeling better, I talked to my friend how to use em' better, I will tone them now instead, work em every other day. today lifted weights and ran/walk on a tredmill
Evening: I roller bladed for about 30 mins and stretched.

Total cals: About 1,240
My BMR is about 2,400 btw.


mishi: Hey there budddddy, haha yeah I know but I had to celebrate, now I know that when I wake up, my weight will go down a little bit. =D!!!. I'm funny? o.o. Oh and thanks for the congrats! I think I'm doing good so far, I feel healthy..not sure If I'm on the road to it though.
Yeah it was fairly simple saying no to the feast and I am glad I did, was proud of saying no. Snack bars eh? You eat them with your meals?
I don't know if I should try, I haven't had a sweet in about two weeks and nor did I crave one so I shouldn't dance with the devil and try a snack bar.
Ooo Nice site, lots of good information, snacking doesn't get me..yet atleast. I don't get hungry between meals, and time flies between meals! seems like I just ate before the next meal. Makes me feel fat =/.

So today my day, some read I can never remember the morning, I woke up..stretched yada yada yada, boring. Ooo hehe, xD. When I went to the gym, it's a apartment complex gym, so I can see the pool area and everyone in it..kinda weird..working out and people in the pool area watching me >/////<
but yea.
I'm POWER (sorry had to say that with the caps lock) walking on the tredmill and I see this little 4 year old boy running in the pool area, I think awww thats cute, then he slips and smacks his head on the floor. OUCH! Shoulda seen the look on my face, almost got knocked off the tredmill myself. Then while I'm running, 2 adults are talking while their kid is drowning in the pool, I didn't notice so don't say I should have done something, they got him out though...it's funny..same kid who smacked his head. He magnatizes trouble, note to self, don't be his friend....

Later that day, I drew a picture for jessica (my girlfriend) I would take a picture, but it's in a envolope now and I don't wanna ruin it. >.>.:mad: Can't you see I'm mad?
Well I'm not really, this whole diet got me hyper and happy..self es-teem rose a lot.
I also had to figure out my ring finger size, I told my g/f I'm gonna get her a ring for out ansverwersarie (1 year next month) so now she wants to get me one too, so I skated down to target and found it out..11.
I gotta go to bed early today, I got work at 6 tommorow with my uncle, 60$ and it's a workout. Gotta pay for my baby girls ring some how..

Sounds like you're on the right track. Boy by the end of summer you friends won't believe how good you look. Losing weight in highschool does wonders for you. I made a ton of new friends, just cause they wanted to get to know the guy who changed overnight. Anyway I'm rooting for you.

Yeah, I know A LOT of people would wanna know me, I got tons of friends that are "popular" and well, If I lost all that weight, I can just imagine what would happen.

Ugh, okay so my day. I worked with my dad at a construction zone for 14 hrs today, my back/feet/fingers are sore. Installing wood/cleaning trash/covering wood/moving tools/walking alot/ standin up and down a billion times. I think thats enough work out for the day.
I woke up at 6 AM and came home at like about 7 PM. I got paid $60, straight cash. Not too much, but i'm doing odd jobs to get enough money for my girlfriends anniversarie gift next month. For lunch we ate quiznos, I chose my sub carefully, 12 in italian sub, too much I know...probally about 800 cals, I looked it up on the net. So my 400 cals morning..800 cals lunch..thats 1,200 so I didn't eat the rest of the day.
When I came home I was dead beat tired, but I wanted to have some fun and mailed a letter to my g/f, silly me xD. I roller bladed for about 45 mins, so another good work out. and well, nothing much, cept i'm sore and I got cuts on my hand and a bump on my head >.<.

But it's so worth the money for her :)

I hope you all are having a good night and a good diet, I know I am..it makes me happy and everything. People are noticing some difference, my bro was like.."how many pounds did you lose dude?"

I checked my weight in the morning 259...I was at 256 for about 2-3 days and now it randomly jumped to 259. Could it be a swing? body reforming lost muscel? who knows, I still feel good and I see differences on my body.

James, i would like to give you a few tips here to help get you on your way.

1. Firstly, the number on the scale is NOT a good indicator of success on a day to day basis. It is completely and entirely natural for the body to have weight fluctuations every single day. after all, the human body is very complex and things are always changing. for instance, think about this. each day you drink about a half gallon of water, you have just consumed about 4 pounds or so of weight. so you have literally added 4 pounds of weight to your body. BUT, it is NOT bad weight. The scale is only useful for checking on changes over longer terms of time. It is fine to check each day, as I do myself, but do not let the little daily changes get you down.

2. Secondly, you are eating way too few calories. Not only are you male, but you are 250 pounds, AND you are a teenager. because your body is still growing, your calorie needs are even higher. Plus, you are getting in quite a bit of exercise, which means you are effectively using even more calories per day. The so-called "starvation mode" does not kick in at any magical number (nor does it kick in overnight by any means). It is a change that is made over time when our body gets too few of calories consistantly and eventually depletes certain fuel sources that the body must have to survive. then the body starts making adaptations to get those fuels from other sources, and things start to change so we can survive longer. At your activity levels, I would suggest that you eat at minimum 2000 calories a day, up as high as 2600 or so. and you will still lose fat doing this. Just make sure the calories come from good sources, skipping out on chinese is a good idea if it is a frequent thing for your family, but make sure you have ways to still get in the calories you need to continue growing properly.

3. It is awesome that you are working out, but make sure you are keeping balance in mind. sure, everyone wants big guns, but not only do you look weird when you overdevelop one part of your body, you also can put yourself at risk for injuries. I am sure that at your age you are very comfortable with the internet, take some time to read around and learn about good all-around workouts for improving your overall health and well-being. and if you need information on how to perform certain exercises, i like

4. Use a program like fitday (they have a free one on their website at fitday.com) to actually track specifically what you eat each day. Not only does this help you to properly gauge whether or not you are eating right, but it will teach you how incredibly inaccurate estimation usually is. you may look at something, see a small portion, and estimate incredibly low. or on the other hand, you may look at something else, see a huge portion, and estimate very high. both situations make it hard to keep track of our progress and know if we are moving in the right direction.


you are at an age where the sky is the limit in terms of your health. Your hormones are as high as they are ever going to be, and your body is pretty much in its prime for becoming as fit as possible. do things the right way, and youll have set yourself up for a lifetime of fitness and happiness.

and by the way, nothing wrong with being excited about your boom boom in the toilet bowl. just the other day i posted in my journal about how interesting it was to drop 2.2 pounds of feces into the watery depths. lol. signs that your body is doing things the way it is supposed to is always good, even if inherently gross.
 
CoachCrimson!! Hey man, wow thanks for spending your time writing such a long message and trying to help me out! As I said above, I am no diet expert or anything, so I'm taking any tips from someone who has experince/knowledge. So Ima reply to every tip =D

1st tip: yeah I notice, today I weighed 259, but my pants are still getting bigger >.<, but I'm still weighing myself for recording.

2nd tip: I didn't have an idea of how many calories I should eat, so I just ate 1,200, but I see your point and I'll start eating more, and hahahaha yeah "Magical Number" I kinda knew that, but still didn't want to bump up the cals. I don't know what is tootalllly healthy calories...kind of hard to get in 2,000+ cals a day from eating total healthy food, like lettuce for example, 1 cal per leaf..gonna be hard to fill up on that, so I eat a sandwich, 2 slices of whole wheat bread, 3 slices of turkey breast. Don't know if thats too healthy, now with your suggestion I add cheese to bump it up.


3rd tip: I don't know, I thought I was working out all of my body, you know walking/running/lifting weights/roller blading/sit-ups. but I'll defeintly read so I don't make any mistakes.

4. I'm using Fitday cause you suggesting it =], really useful, tells me how many calories I burn thru my activites too!, is there an option on it where it tells me if I ate healthy today or not?

Day Seven, Finally, end of week one! week two here I come!


Weight: 259 Same

Food: Coach crimson said I need 2,000 cals, I ate that much and thats A LOT!
Morning: 2 Slices Whole Wheat Bread, 2 Slices of Cheese, 3 Slices of Turkey, 2 Apple
Afternoon: Apple, Apricot, Cereal (2 cups soy milk, 2 cups corn flakes) yogurt 99% fat free
Evening: Quakers Oat Meal Brown Sugar, about 6 radishes, Banana, 1 Cheese slice, 3 turkey breast slices, 3 Pickle Spears, some salt.

Exercise:
Morning: In-Line skating 45 mins
Afternoon: Volleyball 45 mins
Afternoon: *takes 1 1/2 hour break* walking at 3.2 mph 20 mins, running 5.2 mph 10 mins.
Evening: Going to go in-line skating after I type this up (loads of fun!!! :D)

Total cals: Is "I'm gonna burst" a number? About 2,124


So a day in the life of James, I wake up at 11:00 AM, on the coach, *how did I end up there? must of been tired >.<* and then I just freshen up and all and decide I'm gonna do alot of arobics today, no lifting weights, break time for them and tommorow I will. So then I'm skating and bring my camera, take some cool pics and all, and I live in a ok-rich part of MN(Apple Valley) so they have these fancy water sprinklers feeding the grass on the sidewalks. I get wet a bunch of times, some family was walking and saw me get splashed, yeah keep laughing...keep laughing random family..

I've been skating since I was about 8 or so, till about 13 and stopped. Till then I tried skating on April 17th, it has never been worse, my feet killed me! my fitness slowed me down, just everything sucked. Today I go today my feet don't hurt! I went 45 mins no problem! it was so much fun!! Like I said I'm gonna go again after I write this, so much fun.

Then I headed home all huffing and puffing xD..from skating of course..

I eat, my bro comes home with this new volleyball and I ask if we can go play, he said sure, we played for about 45 mins..I took power volley ball in P.E this year, so I knew how to hit..he didn't..so I did a ot of running after the ball >.<

Then I was taking a shower, while I was doing that, I was sitting relaxing, and a thought, ran by my head..am I gonna run on the tred mill today? a quick flash thought went by, no...quickly thought about what my mind said, and said I could and I will, after the shower I went and took a quick break and went straight to the good ol'e tred mill, I get mad when I tell myself no I can't do it...

Was disturbing though, remember when I said I can see people in the pool area? well heh, 2 people were making-out in the jacuzzi/hot tub, made me think so much about my girl..was so jelous she wasn't here >.<.

Came home and well nothing interesting happened yet..just played some xbox live with my friend cindy, if any of ya'll play live, you can hit me up on it

Hey guys!

So, I was working out the gym today and I got a a nose bleed while i was running, it sucked. Least I got 25 mins of work out in (10 mns lifting weights, 15 mins of power walkin) Guess I'll just work out harder in the night since it wont stop bleeding.

Edit: Instead, I just did sit-ups and stuff for 15 more mins to finish my afternoon work out

Alright, I'm gonna start weighing myself only once a week (Fridays), and posting pics only once a week (still gonna pic myself daily so I can make a movie when I'm done..probally gonne be called 270-200 in less than 20 seconds xD.)
So yeah..thought i'd like to surprise myself every week with less and less weight instead of checking daily to see it swing back and forth.

Evening: In-line skating 45 mins. Just love to skate! :D

Sooo my day, nothing really happened, I was bleeding again today...during the evening work out..I didn't wanna go home and call it quits so I drank the blood thru my nose, no nose bleed is gonna stop me from reaching mah goal!
 
Hey James~! ***WOOHOO**** Day 8! Way to go, you're doin great, and dnt get discouraged, like previously mentioned, the number is not a good indicator....but it sure can get ya feelin down if it doesnt say what we want. If you notice ur clothes gettin bigger n everything, great! At least you can feel it. I noticed u said u were gonna weigh in once a week, but there is a club on here called the weigh yourself everyday club, and u do exact;y what the name says, and it helps you not gain too much by the end of the week. Just thought i would throw that out there. :) congrats on u and ur girlfriend on 11 months, especially when ur 16, its really rare, but i am 17 (be 18 next month) and i met my boyfriend when i was 15. In November it will be three years. I imagine ur still in school, i just graduated june 9. I hated school most of the time i was there....but i will admit...never thought i would be dreadin not goin back....Enjoy it while you can =) Do you and your girlfriend go to the same school? Me and my boyfriend went to different schools, we live about 30 minutes away from eachother....the town i am from is REALLY small and so anywhere important is far away, lol. Well, sorry i type so much, lol. But congrats on the weight loss, just dont get discouraged and DO NOT lose your motivation =) I'll be here to cheer ya on!! way to go~
