Jacklinger's Food Journal

It is a type of fish, but you could easily have a lean meat equivalent in calories if you do not like fish.

Oh! Well that food does look awfully tasty but I'm not sure I have the time or the wherewithal to prepare all that stuff in advance. I'm more inclined to just keep at what I'm doing for now, though I admit I would probably lose faster eating the stuff you suggested.

You are a complete walking contradiction.

I will never understand you...

Mom?

Today I ate:

A 2/2/2 IHOP breakfast-- the one with the egg substitute, turkey bacon, and syrup-less pancakes. It wasn't as bad as it sounds. Their pancakes are pretty good even without syrup - 470 cal (actually more like 400 coz I didnt eat one of the pancakes)

A small piece of some kind of guava pastry a coworker gave me - 40 cal? guestimating.

my usual 5 cups of coffee - 150 cal

burgers and fries for lunch (hey it's Friday) 2 mini burgers w/ cheese and a small fries - ~800 cal? it felt like 800 cal, I'm pretty good at estimating calories after I eat the food based on how full it makes me feel.

6 cookies - yep, I ate cookies, so sue me. I don't usually get cookies but these guys jumped out at me. They're gourmet and were on sale and I made the mistake of walking by the vendor selling them - 760 cal

1 hour of walking
10 min of weights
1.25 hours of eliptical

I think I barely broke even today, neither gaining nor losing. Oh well.

Jack,
Are you thinking long term? These aren't foods you can eat for the rest of your life. You talked about the cost of food a little but looking at some of what you eat, I really do think you will be better in the long run learning how to cook your own food. For the cost of this crap (it's crap Jack, you have to know this is food that is really bad for you), you can get real food from a store to cook. It will taste so much better, it will be better for you and this is how people in real life eat.

I'm being honest here, I read your journal and I want to shake you. I want to scream at you that you eat like you live in a frat. You are here for weight loss (I assume that is your reason since it is the whole point of this place) and what you eat and your whole mindset is counter to that effort. We want to help you.

I just don't know if you really want to help yourself.

Thanks for your concern. It's nice to know that people care! :sifone:

I usually don't have time to cook really. My food bill isn't too bad. And buying from restaurants and trucks gives me more free time to exercise, de-stress, and unwind. It's a quality of life thing.

Whenever I do cook, I just make some rice and microwave or bake some frozen chicken strips to go with it. I would like to fry up some veggies and cabbage to go with it but I don't eat it often enough to justify buying all those veggies that will just go bad before I finish with them. And it doesn't particularly taste better than the rice bowls I get from Japanese places. In fact, I prefer take out to anything I can make at home as far as taste goes. Maybe I'm just a horrible cook after all. I guess I got that from my mother.

There are foods you can make that doesn't take that long. Think of this, your working out is to burn calories that you are adding cause of your poor food choices.

You don't have to be amazing to cook something good. Think of it as an adventure to expand who you are.

And women love a man who can cook.

If it involves more than 2 steps then I just don't wanna do it. I can microwave a TV dinner and fry stuff in a skillet or boil stuff in some water and thats about it. So I can make pasta, rice, potatoes, ravioli, stuff like that, and I always make too much and binge on it.

So anyway, today I ate:

4 donuts: ~825 cal
3 cups of coffee: 120 cal
2 cookies: 280 cal
burger and fries: ~1100 cal

3 hours of regular walking
1.2 hours of encumbered walking (was carrying ~40 lbs of goods from the K-Mart that I pass by every time I go for my weekend walks. Stopped in and bought some stuff I needed, figured the extra weight helped me burn extra calories)

Lost a pound by end of day. Probably would've lost 2 pounds if I hadn't had those donuts hehe.

Today I ate:

1 bag of potato chips - 150 cal
1 plate of pizza - felt like ~1800 cal, was very satisfying
3 cups of coffee - 120 cal

1.5 hours of walking
still sort of tired from all the walking i did yesterday

Your diet is awful..Why exactly are you here? Do you want advice or feedback because it seems you are pretty set on eating crap and not changing. Just curious. Your diet and attitude is not that of a person who *wants* to lose weight and get healthy.

To be honest, I feel like this guys blog is insulting to the weight loss community here. I remember that big thread he had a few months ago, where he claimed he would eat healthy, blahblahblahblah and was still hungry..... Obviously he doesn't stick to anything. He cries that cooking is too much work and he eats this bad because he "doesn't have a wife". With how bad your eating jack, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a heart attack in the near future, this food blog seems more like a death bed then a healthy weight loss journey. Hope you realize one day that eating like this is doing more harm then good.

Nutrition is more important then working out as far as weight loss goes. I can work out for an hour a day, but if I ate what you were eating, i'd actually gain weight.

I have to agree with the above poster.

Jack, why are you here? Honest answer because I agree that your blog and attitude is counterproductive to the site's goals.

BTW: This is my own personal opinion, not the sites or other mods.

I laughed so hard when I read this! There is no way you can tell how many calories you have had by how full you feel - complete BS! You don't actually believe that do you?
After reading a couple other posts I have came to the conclusion that you are very, very lazy and you will always be unhealthy unless you change your views, put in more effort and actually try to incorporate a healthy lifestyle.

I didn't mean to imply that I needed a wife to cook for me. I meant that I don't have a wife who would force me to eat different foods, like wives often like to do.

And I have done the healthy food thing before. I used to be a vegan years back and ate a very strict diet like tofu and bean soup and such. I lost a bit of weight doing that but I just couldn't stick too it. I craved meat and cheese too much and it always lead to a binge so my weight loss was never permanent.

You don't have to like my diet, just look at my results. I started at 320 now down to 217. It's going slow now but it's still going.

As for a heart attack, my doc says I'm fine. Blood pressure, cholesterol, glycerides, all within acceptable limits. My grandmother however, who weighs 110 lbs, has a cholesterol of 300 even though all she eats is the meals that her hospice care makes for her which are always super healthy. Sometimes genes play a strong role in these things.

Also, I don't know why people on this site seem so hostile to me. I've not insulted, criticized, or been rude to anyone. I can't wrap my head around it.

I'm here to get inspiration from other people's stories and have found an abundance of that, while sharing my own experiences. If I am violating some rule or code of conduct, it's not my intention to do so. I suppose I could just lie about what I'm eating but I would only be lying to myself. Don't you want me to be honest about what I eat? Why else would there be a reason to keep a diet journal if I didn't write down everything I had, good or bad?

I've actually gotten quite good at guesstimating calories by looking at size, volume, and just eating the food. So I looked up the calorie content of a Johnny Rockets burger and fries meal and it's 600 for the burger and a half-order of fries which comes with the burger is ~250 so for a total 850 calories, I was pretty close. I suppose I could just look up the calorie content of everything but I didn't realize this site was so strict about that kind of stuff.

I'm sorry you think I'm lazy. In some ways I am lazy but we all have to make compromises to make sure our diets can get the weight loss results we're looking for. At the end of the day, it's all about calories in and out, regardless of what you ate. I've tried strict eating plans before and they just don't work for me. I always stray from them and end up binging. But if I let myself be flexible then I can usually stay inside a weight loss range.

Today was Memorial Day so I had a nice meal with my family.

2 pieces of bbq chicken
1 serving of baked beans
1 piece of toast with margarine
1 slice of banana cream pie
1 serving of grilled veggies (zucchini, potatoes, and some other thing that I wasn't sure about but it tasted pretty good)
Total calories = not sure, I figured it was ok to not keep track because of the holiday. But it had to be less than 2000 and more than 1000, so I'll call it 1500.

3 cups of coffee = 120 cal

No exercise today.

Jack,
You do know that you make a lot of people furious right? Like really really furious...
You make some people want to just rip their hair out and jump thru the computer to give you a good slap. : )

I don't really agree with the way you are choosing to lose weight or a lot of the things that you do, but your right, you have never been rude or disrespectful to anyone as far as I can tell.

This is your diary. You didn't hijack another thread.
Post away.

Jack, why are you here? Honest answer because I agree that your blog and attitude is counterproductive to the site's goals.

Seriously? Counterproductive? All the ridiculous posts on this website everyday and this is the one that took it to far?

The goal of the site is to discuss weight loss. He is. If you want, post some counter points. Maybe a webMD article or two. Your good at that. But to seriously imply his attitude is messing with other users weight loss is crazy.

I think it is because people here are trying really hard to make a lifestyle change. Many of us measure, count, scrutinize, weigh, etc... and I think THAT is why people are getting irritated reading that you are living off of and losing weight by eating snickers bars and drinking coffee.

This is why I didn't sit there are talk crap about your food, it is none of my business what you eat or how you lose weight, that is all up to you. You don't spam, spout derogatory comments to people outside of your journal, and thus don't think you are really doing anything wrong.

Do I agree with what you are doing? Not at all, not even a tiny bit. But, it is what you have decided to do and I don't think others should try to punish you for it or insult you for it.

People get barked at here for not eating enough calories, for taking stimulants to lose weight, for voluntary purging etc etc etc. All these things are not healthy.
You (Jack) are getting it for not eating healthy. And if you continue to not eat healthy, and keep posting it in your public diary, your going to keep getting it.
No different than if someone continuously posted taking amphetamines to lose weight.

I don't agree with what you eat. I am going to tell you that whenever you tell me your eating a snickers bar and 4 donuts. Its only fair in a public forum.

I dont think you or anybody else would expect otherwise.

BTW...your family meal sounded great. Hope you have more of them!

People get irritated because I eat snickers and drink coffee? I didn't know that. It's certainly not my intention to irritate anyone. That's an amazing phenomenon actually; to be irritated by food someone else eats. I don't believe I've ever been irritated by some else's diet, unless it was a diet of garlic and cabbage and then they came over and burped and passed gas on me. One time a man who had been eating some kind of high-end spicy sausage burped right in my face and I almost passed out. But that's the only instance I can recall of being irritated by another's diet.

People get barked at here for not eating enough calories, for taking stimulants to lose weight, for voluntary purging etc etc etc. All these things are not healthy.

There are bulimics and drug addicts on this forum? I'm sorry to hear that. Do you ask them to consider getting help? Barking at them usually produces poor results; sometimes it will even make them worse. But I get your point. You just want to point out flaws in my diet. I appreciate people doing that, but I believe it can be done without insults, condescension, and what I have perceived as a mild level of vitriol.

Today I ate:

Bowl of rice with 4 oz of chicken + sweet and sour sauce = ~600 cal.
my usual coffees = ~200 cal.

I'm eating light today because of all the food I had yesterday.

I walked for 1 hour.
