I've Been Scammed But I Am Back On Track

Hi everybody, my name is Carrina. I'm 5'6 and I used to weigh 185 pounds. I'm down to 165 pounds and my goal is to hit 135 before summer is out.

So far, all is good. It was difficult before when my boyfriend (who lives with me) was not on the same page as I was, health wise. Now we're both doing it, and we're both seeing some good results.

I wanted to say that I have been duped by quite a few different companies who claim their products do one thing, yet they do nothing. I got sick of that. I laid off of all product and just started introducing good nutrition and a better fitness program.

I typically have two protein shakes per day to supplement the 3 or 4 other meals I have throughout the day. I also take 2 hoodia capsules before each major meal to keep the hunger away, as I am on a reduced caloric intake at the moment.

So far, so good. I am also maintaining a blog chronicling each week. This is more for me than others, as it allows me to reflect on everything I am doing, but people have been enjoying it, so that is good.

The one question I have is about flax seed. Most seem to say it is good for you, but my boyfriends says he read somewhere that it isn't the best thing for a guy to eat if he is trying to put on muscle. Since I put flax seeds on our salads, he gets a little perturbed about it. Is there any truth to this?

Hi Carrina!

I don't know anything about flax seed (sorry!) but i know where you are coming from when it comes to having a significant other who isn't necessarily on the same page! Working out and being committed to what you are eating or not eating is hard when your fiance (in my case) is lying on the couch eating taco bell!

Good luck and it sounds like you've done a great job so far, so I'm sure you will meet your goal!

From what I've read on flaxseed, it seems to be a healthy source of nutrition - similar to (and possibly better than) something like sesame seeds. The only warnings I've ever seen mention a laxative effect (which suggests easing into your dosage - starting with 1 t) and the fact that it could be dangerous in high dosages (multiple websites suggested 2T as a relatively reasonable serving). There is a long list of side effects on the mayo clinic's website (some of which came from animal testing), but they're talking about using larger doses of a flaxseed supplement...

Hey Carrina, I'm on a lowcarb, more protein diet and I use flax seed in various recipes. I had only seen good things about it but after reading your post I googled it and could find nothing bad. In fact every link I looked at said that flax seed promoted bone health and all kinds of great stuff and was GOOD for people trying to lose the last ounce of body fat and muscle up. If you do a search engine maybe you could show your b/f the info and he'd change his mind...or maybe if you dig a bit further than me you'll find what he was talking about and can let me know.

Anyway glad you are here. I have been curious about the hoodia and be interested in your feedback on it. Does it work pretty well? Any side affects?

Hey I'm still looking through all the googled results so I just had to come back. I don't think I'm allowed to link any but if you google flax seed a bunch of ways I get tons and tons of health benefits and ALOT of articles about how flax seed is awesome for bodybuilders. Most of them recommend it as flax seed oil I guess. After ten pages I still have not found anything bad about using it to build muscle.
