It's My First Time!!

Hi everyone-

This is my first time joining any type of online forum-and I'm really excited! I've been reading the other diaries and you are all extremely motivating to know, if even only through this posting!

I am going to try to lose 15 lbs. I've been overweight since I was young but in the last few years have done a TON of therapy and work to try to deal with what I think is obsessive eating (I think about food all the time and ther eis something good (chocolate, pizza) in the house it talks to me until I eat it). 10 cookies or an entire box of cookies are not a problem. Food is definitely comfort.

I got married this year and kind of "relaxed" after the wedding and voila-here I am with an additional 10 lbs on me!

I am home alone at night (I work from home and my husband often works late) so I'm hoping this forum can be a place that I can visit instead of the pantry when I need to socialize. My eating during the day is usually really great and then I fall off the wagon big time at night. Thank you in advance for any help/advice that you might have.

try drinking tea (with no sugar) instead of snacking. It's a good way to suppress your appetite. Welcome to the forum!

Hi, welcome to the forum! You have definitely come to the right place if you want to find others who are going through the same thing you are. I understand completely about having food calling to you. I am going through exactly the same thing. I have only been on this forum a short time but it is definitely helping me to not eat. One thing that I have found that helps me fight the craving to eat, is to drink a full glass of skim milk with breakfast and supper.

Tea Recommendations

Hi-I really like the idea of trying to keep my hands and mouth busy with Tea at night-do you have any that you recommend?

thank you I really appreciate it!

Hi!
I too am a new member. This forum is terrific because you don't have to hide your obsession with food. I always used to eat late at night and ALOT. Here you can share your cravings and not be ashamed.

Green tea is a great thing to drink, along with water, when you are craving something unhealthy. I always fill up on a ton of fruit or veggies so I'm not hungry. It's hard to get into the swing of not overeating and chosing healthier options, but over time, eating healthy and exercising can become a normal habit for you. And you will feel absolutely WONDERFUL!

nothing tastes as good as skinny feels

This works!

wow-night one on the forum and haven't hit the pantry. I could not thank you guys more for sharing your thoughts and I can't get enough encouragement. I'm pscyhed!

Good job! One night might not seem like a big deal to most people, but it is. Just keep in mind that if you feel this great after one night of not snacking, think about how you will feel after 3 nights, 6 nights, 2 weeks...etc..!

Ouch-first weigh in !!

I weighed myself to get a good read on where I REALLy was. Ouch.

Weight today-169.4

Ideal Weight-155

Goal for end of January-163

I feel a ton of different emotions when I weigh myself-panic, shame, denial, embarrassment. All this while I'm home alone on the bathroom scale. The funny thing is that when i'm not weighing or feeling like i've over eaten, I actually feel pretty good about the way I look. Yes, the jeans I bougtht when I weighed 155 don't fit and my tummy sticks out some but it's nothing a trip to the GAP and some "Long and Lean" jeans in a size 10 didn't fix.

I think my concern is that for me 15 lbs turns into 30 pretty quickly and I hope to keep it closer to 155 to be in the safe zone. I'm also thinking of having kids soon and i'm concerned about the potential gain through that process.

thanks very much for the encouragement and advice offered on these boards. How does weighing in make you guys feel?

ciao!

so far so good!

Hi all-

so far, having this board to go to has really had a great effect on me. I know if I start to feel anxious and get the desire to stress eat I can come here. No big binges to report and I even had to sit in sales meetings surrounded by cookies this week!

have a great weekend.

Hey, welcome to the forums and all that jazz. :D

But I have a question for ya...how many calories are you taking in a day? Because from the amount of food you're putting down, your caloric intake seems really, really low for someone of your weight and activity level.

If you don't get enough calories, your metabolism will shut down because your body will be tricked into thinking its starving, and you will not lose weight. Even if you do lose a little weight from such a reduced diet, you have a much greater chance of gaining it all back and then some. Especially if you're thinking about pregnancy.

I would suggest calculating your basic metabolic rate (which should be anywhere between 1,500-2,000 calories), then reduce calories about 15-20% below that.
