Aww, Dee!
I wish I could visit and kick it with you--you're so smart, and yet your have this perfectionism that seems to get you down sometimes! Do you not have a supportive group of girl friends to bolster you up and take you out and tell you how beautiful you are?
I think there's a big difference, and that was awesome of Paula to do that with the photos. Do you weight train? Building more muscle would up your weight initially, then your fat/muscle ratio would get better, and your lower body would most likely get smaller and firmer. Just a suggestion--try barbell squats--works wonders!
I used to, then it tapered off as the Ashtanga Yoga 4+ times a week proved to maintain my muscle. I think my butt looks better since I've been heavy into it--essentially it's similar to weights but it takes longer, it's isometric, and it's only my own body weight--still works, though!
Congrats on the Turkey Trot! Now we'll both be running a race on TG

Aw, thanks Val. Honestly I do not have many friends. TJ my bff for 17 years and my friend B are pretty much it. And I don't like to talk about my problems when we do get together. I'm more of a listener when it comes to girl outtings... and honestly I don't get invited out much because I am in a serious relationship and the girls that TJ hangs with (which are my friends too, I'm just not as close) are all single and have different motives if you know what I mean. And B and I rarely get together because she is busier than I am and its hard to find time. So... to answer your question... no.Honestly I do not have many friends. I have been strength training at least 2 times per week and I do concentrate on my lower half doing squats and lunges as well as step ups onto a 2' step. My legs are really weak and they always get really sore after I work them, more so than any other part of my body. But I think running has really done good things for my legs, since I've gotten into it I think I've lost upwards of 3 inches from my thighs.
What type of race on you doing on TG????
I'm late to the party but...
A difference is definitely noted.
I've always thought you were gorgeous and that certainly hasn't changed.
And most importantly, you're too hard on yourself. If progress is being made, inches are heading in the right direction, etc... you're on the right course and you really can't ask for anything else. Nor should you.
As you said above this is a journey. Damn I hate saying that b/c it's so cliche anymore... but it's still as true as it was the day people started saying it. The time to worry and possibly get down is when progress simply isn't being made in the face of consistent, hard effort. But even then, IMO, it's not a time to get down. It's more a time to reevaluate what you're doing and what needs to change.
Stick with it and realize you're on a path that leads to your desires. That's great considering so many others aren't. They're still wandering trying to figure things out. Be happy.
Aw, rats! I'm a big advocate of a strong support network of friends and/or family--Cultural Anthropology taught me a lot about that! Yeah the LTR thing vs. single life certainly makes a difference. Hmmm, part of the reason I started belly dancing was to meet other girls and possibly make new friends--one of the girls (Oh I didn't mention it in my diary!) and I met up at her house on Friday evening and practiced belly dancing together. I got to know her a bit better and she's totally cool. But yeah, she got engaged last June and I think going out partying would be something she couldn't really do with me, at least to the degree I do. My best homegirl in this county, C, has a boyfriend but back in LA--and we don't go out to pick up on guys, we just go out to DANCE (LOL) or hang out with Nick (they're both from LA and know the same people although I introduced them). I'm just starting to get into the DJ crowd and that Burning Man camp--I truly enjoy artists and musiciansAnyway, see what's available in your area that might interest you--why not???
Oh good! Well, lady, WORK EM UP! My legs are sore most days of the week, but that's whatcha gotta do!Well, with adequate rest in between. Woman, do my legs get SORE!!! Like yesterday I ran for 41 minutes, then after work I did Yoga 2-3 and whew am I feeling it today! But one only gets stronger and tougher

10K in my state's lovely capitol, SacramentoUh, the race gets about 15,000 runners so I don't expect my time to be that great, seeming that in the beginning I'll have to dodge a bunch of people.
All I have to say is imagine if you did a side by side comparison and you did NOT work out/eat sensibly over the last year. What would the picture look like then? Obviously your efforts to "maintain" and "improve" have paid off. Year over year you have made improvements and it shows. So what if you have a big bootie, so do I. But I am jealous of your tiny waist!! I say keep tweaking the meal plans and keep up your running and you'll keep seeing good results.
Thanks Paula for doing the side by side!!
I notice a big difference in your profile. Tummy is flatter and bootie/thighs are thinner and perkier. Arms hard to tell since you are doing the celebrity trick of pulling them away from your torsoOverall you look healthy and fit.
On a different note, I also signed up for a Turkey Trot today and I agree, we should start a 135 Club/Challenge/Thread...something!

I have tried but I am such a social retard. I have a hard time making friends. I try to talk to people in my classes but no one seems interested and that's frustrating. But hopefully I will start taking some classes outside of school and meet some cool people!
OMG I'm sorry, I couldn't help but joke I think I let the soreness in my legs hold me back because I feel like they need to rest so then I will rest on days that I'm not supposed to be resting... I need to learn to just work through it.
I think the race we are doing typically only has about 500 participants but either way I am excited to get out. I'm sure we will be at the back of the pack, but I'm okay with that!![]()
November 19 [Day 10] I did run last night 3.5 miles. There was some walking in there but it was mostly running. My plan worked. I was able to be on the mill for the whole first half of the biggest looser and it kept me pretty motivated. I pretended Jullian was yelling at me not them.![]()
Good job on the running. I plan on doing a similar distance tomorrow morning. How are you feeling? Do you have any issues with your feet or legs? If not, awesome. Yesterday's run proved to be good for my legs...no noticeable discomfort. Tomorrow I'll double the distance so we'll see!!
I love the biggest loser. I was hoping the vote went the other way last night...couldn't believe the crazy wife is still there. She is wacko. I would have gone to blows with her already on national TV. She wouldn't have known what hit her. LOL
Jillian is awesome...and her body is crazy!! I love her abs...I am not sure if I can ever look like that. What do you think her body fat percentage is? Doesn't look humanly possible. haha

her Grandma is in the hospital... something about a diebetic coma... pretty scary stuff.

Tell me about it!
Good luck on your exams, and by all means, take care of that lumbar!
