It Starts...

HAHAHAHA--well to some extent it is, you said so yourself! I mean, people make it seem like if you skip one meal it'll slow by a ridiculous percentage.....

Right. In particular contexts it's a myth. In others it's very real.

All about the context woman!!

Is skipping a meal going to screw things up? Absolutely not.

Is overdoing it, especially in the face of a caloric deficit, environmental stress, lot's of cardio, etc coupled with someone who doesn't have all that much fat to lose (and female nonetheless) is a completely different ballpark.

What's your calories at currently and how much are you exercising. The thing goals is most people have them set up where they're competing with one another.

If you're eating strictly plus marathon training plus weight training plus whatever stress you have going on, things tend to go a little haywire. Metabolic rate can certainly drop to a degree where scale movements are hard to see, either b/c they're masked by fluid retention or your metabolism has slowed to a crawl making what should be a deficit, maintenance.

That's why I rarely have women who are relatively small already looking to get leaner do a lot of cardio. It just doesn't work for fat loss well. The body tends to resist it.

I also don't diet linearly. I institute refeeds quite often.

My typical intake is 1700-1900 cals per day... most of the time Im on the lower end or right inbetween those numbers. I'm exercising 6 days a week and until recently (This week) I was only strength training once a week... with my new halfer training I have myself weight training 2-3 times per week. But that has NOT been typical the past 2 weeks of this challenge I've only been doing about an hour of strength a week and then I used my wrist weights while in aerobic class but I dont think that counts.

What about the rest of your training. You said you've been doing only about 1 hour or strength training per week. What else?

I've been running for 40 mins 2-3 times per week, taking a salsa aerobics class which is 60 mins per week, walking during my lunch breaks everyday and then at least 1 70-90 min circuit per week which includes strength with .25 mile running intervals as fast as my little legs will go.

May I have your stats?

And last diet break you took, meaning ate at maintenance?

And exercise break?

I was in maintenance mode pretty much all of December and I took an exercise break over finals which was the first week of December, but have been pretty consistant with getting a few runs in and some form of cardio a week during the holidays. I wasn't trying to lose but I did drop 2lbs in December if that matters. I really kicked up my exercise efforts since the 1st of January.

January 21

Just a quick check in. Yesterday ended up being pretty good for my first day of school. All of my teachers so far seem pretty awesome. I recently realized that I spent the majority of last semester studying for exams and this semseter I will be doing very little of that. My communication classes include lots of writing... which I am down for. I have always been good at writing papers and what not.

My run last night was okay... I know 2 miles isnt much but I did walk a bit like twice and then I really kicked up the speed the last .25 mile. I felt pretty good but the soreness from strength training yestereday started to kick in. Today I'm REALLY feeling it. But I pushed myself harder than usual. Its a good sore though. :)

Tonight is salsa and studying. I will have alot of readings to do it appears, which is fine. Tomorrow during my break at school I'm going to get my run in. I've never stepped foot in either of the gyms at school and am a little apprehensive to say the least. But I figure it will be a prime opportunity since I have close to 5 hours to burn. I'm also going to look into spin classes see if I can maybe take a few of them too! :)

As far as food goes today I'm going to try something a little different. I've had some digestive issues the past week and I think I've narrowed it down to the kashi cereal I've been eating. My mom also recently starting eating kashi and is having the same issue. I just had some oatmeal with almonds, cranberries, and some honey.... so we will see how that goes.

That's pretty much it for now. I need to finish getting ready for work! :)

And are you following any sort of dieting parameters like low carb or anything?

Haha, I'm just teasing. I have some work to do. I'll drop in a bit later and tell you some of my initial thoughts.

WHEW!!! I was seriously worried!!

Okay I can take my temp. Can I ask for what purpose???

And yes I weigh and measure my food.
